Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.1 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by vintage_whine on 1/6/2023: on opening, reduction finely integrated wood, elevated acidity, minerality and tart lemon and apple all suggest another white burg imitator, but with an hour of air the lemon and white peach fruit stands apart and this really shows its spanish character. fascinating, thoughtful and delicious (1532 views)
Tasted by ran.shoham on 8/17/2022 & rated 93 points: This is the kind of wine I really like. High acidity, minerality, reach, and balanced. (1954 views)
Tasted by cephomer on 6/15/2022 & rated 92 points: Blanco supplied for our final Xtremo blind tasting of the season. No one guessed this right, but a few did guess Spain as country of origin. Quite acidic, with lots of stone fruit and some citrus. Nice freshness to this wine. Also, a very long, tart finish. I found it on the viscous side and guessed it to be either a Loire chenin blanc or a chablis. I liked this wine, and think it's drinking quite well, particularly given its youthfulness. (1901 views)
Tasted by Venkar on 4/20/2022 & rated 93 points: Lemon pear and grapefruit (1896 views)
Tasted by Blauweiss on 4/11/2022 & rated 91 points: Chablis-like, but more of tropical fruits. Integrated and complex already at young age. Very good. (1902 views)
Tasted by G.O. on 2/19/2022 & rated 93 points: I would guess this is a very good Chablis. The only problem - comparable Chablis is Chablis and usually it is cheaper. Nevertheless, perfect match to trout. (1347 views)
Tasted by AndreasMuc on 1/10/2022 & rated 95 points: Godello 100%, Alk. 14%. (95). (1374 views)
Tasted by vintage_whine on 12/19/2021: wood stands out as resinous, at proper temperature, this is much better balanced and more precise, certainly a white burgundy imitator. white pepper, underripe white peach, apricot, green apple and lemon. nothing at all exotic. put there is minerality, the taught bitterness of extract, and reduction. needs more time, sorely. if this were to be compared to white burg, given its apparent alcohol (14%) I'd have to suggest from younger vines of a village level site in a warm year. not quite the presion or careful delineation of flavors of a 1er (978 views)
Tasted by eadsaaron on 11/2/2021 & rated 93 points: Delicious, with gravel, lemon, slight salt, almost burnt matches. Tart, long finish. (1111 views)
Tasted by vintage_whine on 10/30/2021: pure pleasure. yellow apple, pear, creamy texture, white florals, though the fruit has a ripeness that some may interpret as sweetness. (914 views)
Tasted by eoinhharkins on 7/2/2021 & rated 92 points: Yummy! Lots of wet pebbles, citrus zest, some golden apple, raw almonds on the nose, lots of intensity on the palate with great acidity and a fresh texture and a briny finish (1280 views)
Tasted by Papies on 6/27/2021 & rated 91 points: A very good example of a well made local grape. Well made, not pushed or overmanaged with oak. Granted lacked a bit of structure on the acidity and felt less energetic than we thought but was very integrated, in balance and really made for very happy drinking. Solid 91 (1304 views)
Tasted by kostaslonis on 3/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Random wines tasted during service (Oinoscent): Sampled via coravin at Oinoscent.
The wine shows low intensity (probably due to coravin), the profile is very close to Louro 2019 tried just prior to this.
In the palate, the wine its more powerful, high intensity, filled with elegant oak notes, medium acidity, mineral element, fresh herbs, citrus, quince, grapefruit with long finish.
This is quite young, needs time to open up . It would better with food. (1245 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 11/20/2020 & rated 91 points: Deeply mineral, like biting into a piece of granite rock. In addition this was framed by distinctly floral notes. At the core a mostly citric fruit. Good tension on the palate with fresh acidity and a tightly knit texture. Supposedly very age worthy hence will try popping a bottle every other year or so. But for now not much more than a good, simple white wine – albeit with a very specific character. (1504 views)

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.

Galicia

Galicia is an autonomous region in the northwestern corner of Spain, north of Portugal. It is marked by an atlantic climate with frequent rain and moderate temperatures, especially along the coastal regions. There are five Denominación de Origen (DO) areas: Monterrei, Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra, Ribeiro and Valdeorras. Probably the best known wines are the Albariño wines from Rias Baixas, but all regions have seen increased interest in recent years. There has been also a notable resurgence of local grapes, like Godello, Treixadura or Loureiro.
