Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 201 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by jlgnml on 1/15/2023 & rated 92 points: Super clean as if was right out of the barrel. Good nose and flavor it just hasn’t developed. Hold for 5+ years. (1153 views)
Tasted by NickA on 11/8/2022 & rated 94 points: 2002 Burgundy, round 2 (Noize): A rich, punchy wine, with pineapple and cream; the nose was heady and sensual. Remarkably candied on the palate, almost red-fruited, and this reminded me of the Glenmorangie Milsean (i.e. a whisky finished in red wine casks, with a curiously, deliciously sweet finish). Softly textured too, but for me in balance and a delight to drink, although I think some at the table found it a little 'too much'. (1312 views)
Tasted by liber on 8/16/2022 & rated 94 points: 9th of 12, opened 20 minutes, perfect level, cork third soaked, as bottles since 2018, attractive, nuanced, even some upside but needs more weight and energy for better than F+ (18)......BdM to be preferred in this vintage but should improve over next couple of years and hold for 5 years or so thereafter. (1202 views)
Tasted by liber on 11/5/2021 & rated 94 points: 8th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, as June bottle, upside still. F+ (18). (1669 views)
Tasted by liber on 6/11/2021 & rated 94 points: 7th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, little changed from last bottle in 8/18, pure, quite steely, plenty of bant, decent complexity, length and persistence, still remarkably youthful, upside yet. F+ (18). (1846 views)
Tasted by drjb on 11/19/2020 & rated 92 points: This wine has a quite developed although correct colour with butterscotch and crushed apple on the nose suggesting some oxidation but then it opens to reveal more clearly delineated apple, white pear, touches of pineapple and limestone rock. The palate is quite rich with an exotic touch on the fruit. However the grip and line are very good with a long finish. Delicious but on the evidence of this bottle it is developing quite quickly now. (1877 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/2/2020 & rated 91 points: Bouchard 2018 Tasting (Chicago, IL): Popped-and-poured post tasting, then enjoyed over several hours. Very musty to start, but that mostly dissipated within minutes in glass, but plenty of earth remained. Very dense and concentrated with stone fruit and ripe apple. Still very good, but not at the level it once was. (2694 views)
Tasted by bon vivant on 7/31/2020 & rated 93 points: According to my PN a bottle of this in December of 2018 was ready to to go with lots of tropical fruits and I thought it should not be aged any further and at risk of decline. Well this bottle came across as Fresh and surprisingly young. From the bright color to the vervy and precise flavors and lemony stony finish this was classic Corton at a great place. Got more buttery and complex with air and as it warmed in the glass and I managed to get a small sip from the end of the bottle which was excellent. My score is based on my longer impression and is probably a bit conservative. Fresh bottles like this one should be allowed to open up - a hard thing to do in a dinner with lots of thirsty characters. (1700 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Mitch on 7/31/2020 & rated 94 points: Excellent, fresh, no premox. Sharp but balanced acidity=excellent cut, nice length, persistence, and concentration. Wish I had more. This was so fresh I can't see how another 10 years would hurt it. (1281 views)
Tasted by herbaceous on 7/27/2020 & rated 91 points: Honey on the nose. Key lime and creme fresh. (1057 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 7/24/2020 & rated 88 points: While aging well, not much of a punch. Green apple and a bit tart. (747 views)
Tasted by herbaceous on 7/11/2020 & rated 90 points: Enjoyable but a bit oxidized. Very long finish. (671 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 6/8/2020 flawed bottle: Horrific premox. (1619 views)
Tasted by shifter on 5/16/2020 & rated 88 points: Agree with Dave. Some good notes, oxidative, some iron with hint of creaminess, hints of what was but this is past its prime and lacking power and beauty. (1065 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 4/28/2020 flawed bottle: Well stored since release. Butterscotch, oak- oxidized/over the hill (960 views)
Tasted by Sleepy Dave on 3/6/2020: Intense yellow fruits, some oxidative notes (that reminds me of Selosse VO) iron, savoury and yellow flowers. Saline entry, with right amount of acidity and some creamy, viscosity. Powerful mid palate, some preserved plum at the back, lingering. My previous experiences with this wine were much better in term of energy, complexity and power w finesse. This is a tad loosen knit and the nose is very different. (1050 views)
Tasted by Frank Schneider on 9/22/2019 & rated 95 points: Coool burgundy ! Needed air. The full mineral thing. Very silent in the nose but stone pressure on the palate. Good finish. Very fine. No hurry !!! (1537 views)
Tasted by tewino on 9/6/2019: Oxidized. That makes 100% of my 4 bottles. Thank god it's my last bottle. Also last bottle of Bouchard I will ever buy. (1410 views)
Tasted by tewino on 9/1/2019: Oxidized. That does it for me and Bouchard. I'm done. (1315 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 6/7/2019 & rated 91 points: Some minerally interest and bright fruit but not playing at the level of good Corton Charlemagne from a good year. (1912 views)
Tasted by LoireFan on 9/13/2018 & rated 93 points: Could not remove the cork, but Coravin'd it to get all the wine out. Was excellent. I would sent the bottle to Premier Cru for their trophy room, but yeah... (2009 views)
Tasted by liber on 8/28/2018 & rated 94 points: 6th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, beginning at last to sing, finest bottle yet, and by miles, style, steel, structure and fruit, and still very youthful. F+ (18)…..at last a competitor for BdM and it'll be interesting to contrast and compare development over the next 10 years (and with the essentially inferior LL). (1712 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 7/11/2018 flawed bottle: Bouchard Père et Fils Grand Cru: Lieu-dit Cru Blind White Burgundy Dinner (S.K.Y. Restaurant - Chicago IL): Tasted single blind in Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne flight. Tired. (2650 views)

was preparing a blast! Quite a nice evening with 2 pounds lobster from Ste-Magdelaine Island in Quebec! Hope you are having a great spring 2018 (2160 views)
Tasted by King Julien on 1/12/2018 & rated 94 points: Popped and poured. This was a very nice bottle after it had a little time to breathe. When first popped it was rather closed, but after about an hour or so it surprisingly blossomed rather nicely. (2188 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
