(527 views) | | Tasted by PUR on 4/7/2012 & rated 91 points: I really enjoyed this bottle. Medium to heavy body, some tobacco, earthiness, with dark red berries. Very light tannins, dry and medium long finish. (1738 views) | | Tasted by BoulderWine on 10/14/2009 & rated 87 points: Light color, herbaceous nose. Light, red fruit on the palate and somewhat austere on the finish, but pleasant overall. Drank well with a mushroom tarte. (2189 views) | | Tasted by Slics on 4/26/2009 & rated 89 points: Good, heavy merlot with cherry-chocloate notes. Not much finesse but a good wine and easy drinking. (2318 views) | | Tasted by Slics on 1/2/2009 & rated 85 points: Good wine. Deep colour, a bit hot with cherry fruit on the nose, decent weight with a bit of a spicy finish. More than just Merlot? Enjoyable. (2483 views) | | Tasted by Caring_Bear on 9/28/2008 & rated 87 points: Popped and poured. Had alone and with sicilian style pizza. On the nose it's mild fruit a little currant, and some soft spice. On the tongue it is lighter than what I have known of other Williamson wines... There is some heat here, but without the fruit to really back it up. Overall the wine seems off-balance to me. Finish is short. Overall nothing to right home about.... (2416 views) | | Tasted by Mark on 3/7/2008 & rated 86 points: Gift from Marilynne. This 2004 Williamson is thin, very light in fruit and weight, low in tannins but moderately pronounced in oak. And hour of decanting did help to gain some depth but very slightly, this is one of the lightly and thinnest merlots that I’ve had. One dimensional with some bright red fruit in the background. This wine is drinking as well as it ever will, further aging will just allow the already subtle fruit components to just fade away leaving nothing but oak. Rather disappointing in it’s overall lack of concentration. (1425 views) |
| Williamson Wines Producer websiteMerlotMerlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyDry Creek Valley Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley | Dry Creek Valley Association | Appellation America | San Francisco Chronicle Article |
