Nonstarter (161 views) | | Tasted by IanKoenig on 1/31/2024 & rated 85 points: The color of the wine is quite a golden orange dissipating from the center into a greenish gold. On the nose you can detect apricot plum floral notes. Not overly aromatic. On the pallet the taste is bright and fresh. flavors of citrus fruit, fresh acidity, and the added tannins from the fermentation process. The finish is long not overly acidic and quite crisp. Very good wine to try the orange style at only 12 - 16 bucks. (180 views) | | Tasted by eyewino on 1/2/2024 & rated 87 points: PnP. Pale orange in the glass fading to a thin watery rim. Nose actually gives quite a bit of orange peel, along with dried strawberries, mild herbs, and furniture polish. Medium-bodied with medium plus acidity, tastes of lanolin, dried orange, and talc. Medium minus tannins. Previous vintages have tasted "fresher". This is a beginners orange wine without the heavy tannins and challenging flavors many others have. Think of it as a heavy rose. Drink now through 2025. Bonny Doon was sold in early 2020 to "WarRoom", a wine production and marketing entity formed in 2018. Per a January 2020 Decanter article - https://www.decanter.com/wine-news/californias-bonny-doon-sold-430550/ - "Graham will retain creative control of Bonny Doon’s wines, but production will change from 35,000 cases of 15 different wines annually to just four wines: the flagship red Rhône blend Le Cigare Volant; Le Cigare Blanc (based on Vermentino); Vin Gris de Cigare (a Rhône varietal rosé); and a 100% Picpoul."White Rhone BlendA white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson CaliforniaNapa Valley.http://www.stagecoachvineyard.com/vineyards/our_vineyards.php Santa Ynez.http://www.everyvine.com/org/Camp_Four/vineyard/Camp_Four/ |
