Tasted by TheGreenFrog on 5/5/2024 & rated 93 points: I have had considerable bottle variation with the 2000, but this bottle was very good. Decanted three hours. Fully mature fruit, quite light for Beaucastel but delicate and delicious. Best drunk at around 15/16 celsius. (412 views)
Tasted by SoleModel23 on 3/7/2024 & rated 97 points: This is my second time having this wine. It really is a special wine. Decanted for 5 hours and drank blind at a tasting. Everyone immediately fell in love with the nose, and began to get down on one knee with the palette! Lollll, Up against some serious other wines (2003 Tignanello, 1995 GAJA) and still came out the WOTN. Absolutely stunning, and I look forward to finding the next special occasion to open one up again. This bottle has forever to go! Just now entering it's beginning stages of the drinking window. Will last with EASE until 2040+ (1862 views)
Tasted by oldwines on 2/28/2024 & rated 92 points: Brought by a friend to dinner, tasted blind. 14% ABV. Somewhat bricked. Shows its age but still nice to drink. Earthy, mushroom, garrique, red fruit, hints of chocolate still slightly tannic. Only average to below average acidity. Fairly long finish. Fairly complex, fruit fading. Quite tasty with braised lamb shanks. (2078 views)
Tasted by ___robin on 2/17/2024 & rated 96 points: Rasin, Cooked Plums, Chocolate, Leather, Tobacco, Mushroom, Truffle, Wet Leaves, Forest Floor. (2190 views)
Tasted by liber on 1/19/2024 & rated 93 points: 21st of 24, opened an hour, perfect cork and level, seemingly unchanged from excellent Jan 22 bottle, fruit still vibrant, caressing velvet touch, splendid length and complexity, plateau, no rush but I'd look to drink over next 5 years. F+ (18). (2855 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 1/14/2024 & rated 92 points: From 75cl, good cork, decanted 1 hour, stable thereafter in glass. An outstanding bottle (after a disappointment on 16.12.2018). "Barnyard" horsesh*t, forest floor and lavender scent; sweet entry, initially with a gorgeous prickling texture, which gradually faded, leaving only residual acidity; hardly any tannic action perceptible. Dreamy, fully-mature C9dP; despite its impeccable provenance this bottle was near the end of its virile life. Drink up. 92P (2904 views)
Tasted by danckie on 1/14/2024 & rated 94 points: I well kept this wine gives so much pleasure. Perfect example of aged wine. Even 5 years after my last bottle this wine is in a very happy place. Drink up if you have any left. It’s worth it and will probably not improve. (2085 views)
Tasted by beatles on 12/31/2023 & rated 95 points: BYO. Great showing here with iron, barnyard, blood and sweet Grenache. Smooth as the vintage. Drinking a point, great, great wine.

Tasted by GiWineDoc on 11/23/2023 & rated 87 points: Past it’s prime. Good bit of funk. Not enjoyable. (2703 views)
Tasted by Meltontc on 11/3/2023 & rated 96 points: Deep purple with an amber and brown rim. Touch of cranberry and bramble on the nose. Full and rounded,
juicy. Cranberry acidity still present up front. Slight dark cherry gives way to truffle, wet dirt, and stone. Medium long finish.

On it's final legs but stands up. (2700 views)
Tasted by devraj on 10/25/2023 & rated 93 points: Garnet brick in color. Beautiful aromas of red berries, florals, baking spice, leather and hint of barnyard on the nose. Palate shows sweet red fruits overlayed with dried florals and spice, meat sauce, decent acidity, and a long sweet and savory finish. (2778 views)
Tasted by mojotojo on 10/15/2023 & rated 95 points: Gorgeous CDP drinking really well right now. A perfumed nose poured out of the bottle as soon as the cork was pulled. Didn't require any decant to open up but it did get more floral and intensely aromatic as the night wore on. Dried bing cherries, a hint of strawberry, deli meat, leather, Rhone garrigue and a stunning bouquet of floral notes as if you shoved your face into a pile of rose petals. Solid acid backbone and super-silky tannins. It may have peaked but it isn't over the hill yet. (3050 views)
Tasted by kenv on 10/5/2023 & rated 93 points: WCC Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blind Dinner (The Chef's Table in Café Capriccio, Albany, NY): [Double-decanted for one hour around 3:30pm.] Lovely nose of red fruit and spice. Mature, but no sign of fading. Rich, long tasty. (2948 views)
Tasted by Jd6725 on 9/14/2023 & rated 93 points: A very good expression of one of my least favorite red grapes. Although if I'm going to drink grenache, this or Pegau are usually my choices. The sweetness showed through and this was a clean bottle. (1446 views)
Tasted by hargy on 8/12/2023 & rated 88 points: the last of my bottles which is probably a good thing as this was a tired bottle - not spoiled in any way - drinkable but the fruit was all but gone and it had the appearance and taste of a wine twice its twenty three years - very disappointing (2716 views)
Tasted by ___robin on 6/29/2023 & rated 95 points: Spectacular! Liquorice, Black Olive, Black Pepper, Cooked Strawberry, Mushroom, Leather, Black Pepper, Prune, Black Plum, Sage and more! (3169 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 6/13/2023: Showing very well. I recall this being lush and approachable young. Seems classical now and fully mature. (3219 views)
Tasted by Rani on 5/8/2023 & rated 88 points: It’s been ages since I had a Beaucastel or any CdP for that matter. This reminded me why I went off this type of wine. Stewed fruit compote and vegetable soup on the nose. While it’s not a fruit bomb and restrained on the palate, and has lots of acidity, dried figs and sweet tannins. Not my cup of of tea. (3635 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 4/30/2023: Compared to the other wines we had along with this, this came across as a little sweet, which detracted for me. The wine is elegant and soft, and is really just starting to take on some earthy tertiary flavors. I liked this, and I think it would have shown even better if by itself. (3518 views)
Tasted by SH Wu on 4/23/2023 & rated 91 points: The core of the wine was dried cherries and raspberries dusted with pepper and camphor. A dark licorice plum finish eases in a sweet cherry syrup finish.

The bottle I had felt a bit more advanced than expected. Certainly a great CdP, but likely a bit beyond where a well-stored bottle should be. (3268 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 4/3/2023 & rated 92 points: Garnet in color. 13.5% ABV. Sublime nose of red fruits, leather, garrigue and roasted herbs. Medium body with perfect acidity and balance. Packed with rich, ripe fruits. Kirsch, raspberry liqueur, iron and a hint of white pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. A touch riper than I like but delicious nontheless. Perhaps this resolves with more time in the bottle. Best over the next 2-4 years. (3383 views)
Tasted by beachbum on 3/4/2023 & rated 90 points: this was well concentrated, balanced and had good fruit on the taste initially, however the tarry burnt rubber note took over and i found it overpowered the wine, this does not need to be drunk any time soon, it was black to the edge. i bumped the score up a bit… the flavour profile changed to a nice concentrated cherry cough syrup… leave the reminjng bottles for a while (3544 views)
Tasted by brianofthevine on 2/16/2023 & rated 93 points: Oh damn, this is a gem of a wine at 23 years old! Still has some fruit left of black raspberries and dark plums but has mostly given way to the tertiary notes of earth, tobacco, forest floor, saddle leather, dried herbs and spice. Great balance and structure albeit the acidity has softened a bit yet a nice long finish. Just a fantastic wine right now...although I believe there is still life left for a few more years. (3534 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 2/8/2023 & rated 93 points: Monthly Tasting Group HWS; Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape (By VD and @ VD): Drank from magnum. In the bouquet dark berries, garrigue, a bit rustic, but hardly showing any old age. On the palate the same impressions. In fact still youthful and many years ahead. Dark berries, coffee, chocolate, some mushrooms, beautiful acidity and round tannin with a lovely bite. Still a fantastic wine! No hurry at all! (4016 views)
Tasted by beatles on 1/21/2023 & rated 94 points: Drinking a point - and very fresh - even HSA was impressed. Garrigue galore, sweet Grenache, plenty of spide and still primary fruit here. Today this outperformed the Charvin with it's more local character, though everybody was quite impressed with the set.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
