Tasted by prism on 4/26/2024 & rated 90 points: Slow O'd for an hour. Too old: smokey raspberries, but oxidation is creeping in. Drink now. (146 views)
 Tasted by europat55 on 2/15/2024 & rated 90 points: Nose: 89-90; Palate: 89-90
My #5; Group's #4; Tasted Blind. (480 views)
Tasted by christian.tellvik@limab.se on 2/1/2024 & rated 92 points: Dark red color with clear ripeness. Dull sweet big aroma of dark ripe berries. Ripe strawberries, warm typical sun-ripened berries, barrel and leather. Delicious. (468 views)
Tasted by cos65 on 10/26/2023 & rated 93 points: Clear garnet, browning at the edge, moderate sediment requiring a decant or first pour.
Heady kirsch aromas and flavors; a fairly big ripe example, moderate structure which is smoothing out. Really in a nice place tonight. YFS (690 views)
Tasted by nkirsch on 2/5/2023 & rated 89 points: Seems to have lost a little life. Good bottle but fruit, nose, finish were all a little less pronounced than I would have liked. Probably time to drink the last bottle (1182 views)
Tasted by VlgJeff on 12/31/2022 & rated 93 points: A New Year's Eve Gathering at our place: From magnum: Decanted the first half of this bottle for 30 minutes while the second half slo-oxed in the bottle for over an hour. This allowed the wine to darken in color and add some weight. This wine appeared younger and fresher than the single bottle opened two years ago. The color was a medium garnet to a faded rim. Lots of red fruits and some earth on the nose. On the medium bodied palate these red fruits and earth (garrigue) were joined by some darker fruits and touches of spice and minerality. The acidity was nicely balancing, and all tannins were completely integrated. Drinking very well (from Magnum) where it should continue to hold for several more years.
Overall, this wine was quite enjoyable and paired very nicely with both the stuffed mushroom appetizer and the Turducken main course. (1320 views)
Tasted by nkirsch on 4/27/2022 & rated 92 points: Really enjoyable wine. Drank right after opening and it got better with more air time. Medium color, nice nose. Soft fruit and tannins. Probably peaking now so wouldn't cellar for too many more years. (1699 views)
Tasted by whitmanlholt on 10/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. This is a medium-red wine with some notable sediment toward the end of the bottle. On the nose, I get ripe cherries, kirsch, scrub, and a warm cedar plank. In the mouth, this displays a chewy character with raisins, herbs, and crushed red fruits. The finish is juicy, wild, and characterized by smooth tannins. Overall, I thought this was a perfect wine to drink outside on a fall day. This is distinctive CdP with a nice showing today. The stated downsides of the 2007 vintage were not present with this wine. 92 points. (2146 views)
Tasted by linuhage on 5/23/2021 & rated 94 points: Excellent! Probably peaking right now. (2171 views)
Tasted by 309VEB on 3/17/2021 flawed bottle: Unfortunately oxidized. Cork was perfect so bottle variation. I was hoping for the experience that the last reviewer had but it was not to be. Still have some bottles so hope this was a one off. (1876 views)
Tasted by rmarkey on 3/14/2021 & rated 94 points: Excellent. Gorgeous wine drinking so much better than the bottle we had last November.
Colour: deep blackberry
Bouquet: spicey dark berries and cherries, with cherry oak
Palate: just as bouquet, inky chocolate characters, chalky, cherries, dried twigs, herbs and smoke. Leather. Full bodied, full soft tannins and long ultra dry finish.
March 2021 (1816 views)
Tasted by auldalliance on 12/26/2020: Coravined a couple of glasses over a few days.

Last one of these.

Still got plenty of life, but pretty heady. The fruit is less vibrant than I remember, slightly cooked feeling to it. Decent balance though, but more mature now. Needs hearty food. (1689 views)
Tasted by VlgJeff on 12/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Decanted for 30 minutes - with a fair amount of sediment - but could benefit from an additional 15 - 30 minutes. The color was a mahogany red that faded to a colorless rim. The nose was all red fruits. The medium bodied palate showed lots of red fruits, some garrigue, a touch of minerality, nicely balancing acidity, and well integrated tannins. This wine is definitely ready to please, if given a chance to breathe up front, and can probably hold for several years more. (1342 views)
Tasted by nkirsch on 12/20/2020 & rated 92 points: Opened but didn't really drink until the next night. Soft tannins, fruit with some hints of herbs and smoke. Definitely still has more time (1241 views)
Tasted by rmarkey on 11/14/2020 & rated 87 points: Very good. 14.5% alc.
Colour: mid red berries, some browning
Bouquet: leather, pepper, some hot alcohol, dried herbs.
Palate: as bouquet, huge body, little fruit character left, leathery, dried herbs and spice, long finish.
November 2020 (1293 views)
Tasted by 309VEB on 9/12/2020 & rated 91 points: Very big wine. Still firm with good acidity. Probably will improve with further age as the wine smooths out. Very enjoyable but no rush to drink. (1362 views)
Tasted by wstromb404 on 8/22/2020 & rated 91 points: Needs time to open up, but drinking nicely now. Not a superstar CdP but very enjoyable. (1274 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 7/29/2020 & rated 93 points: last bottle, still has plenty of life, mostly red and some purple fruits, paired well w/ smoked pork chop and fried rice. (1390 views)
Tasted by Larre on 4/25/2020 & rated 96 points: My last bottle of this outstanding effort. With all components integrated and in balance, dense, seamless and elegant fruit, this beauty is drinking perfectly now. Elegant and lingering finish. Enjoy this beauty over the next 5 years! (1620 views)
Tasted by sdwineguru on 1/20/2020 & rated 92 points: 2007 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes. (84% Grenache, 8 Syrah, 8 Mourvedre). light-mid brick, amber edges; earthy, floral nose; briar and smoke, red fruit; balanced; nice fruit and flavor; refined; long smooth fruity finish. w/cassoulet. 17 UC Davis scale; 92 other scales. (1717 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 12/2/2019 & rated 95 points: Clearly showing the ripe vintage character but there is enough material and complexity to make the wine interesting and enjoyable. A lot of tobacco, lavender and tapenade. Excellent concentration, nicely layered slightly dry black fruit, good acidity and earthy mineral, and a long ripe black fruit driven finish with tobacco at the end. My favorite wine of the flight. (2124 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 8/17/2019: Limited notes. White pepper. (1810 views)
Tasted by RonniePiemonte on 8/3/2019 & rated 93 points: Dark raspberry entry. Earth and acid. (1624 views)
Tasted by Grinner on 2/17/2019 & rated 93 points: Hoping for more but still a great wine. You pull a "12" yr old upper crusty wine and you want to be thrilled. Well, we're still enjoying the heck out of this. Decanted an hour into the "Duck"! and followed another 2 hrs. This is a medium bodied wine with more savory notes than fruity ones AND THAT'S OK WITH ME! Just not deep or profoundly complex enough to go higher, score wise tonight. Kirsch and plum, garrigue, kelp, sangre de toro, ferrous and anise notes. TINY bitter note on the finish that brought it down a point or two for me. Decent tannins an acidity. Still has 8+ years. (2027 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 1/13/2019 & rated 93 points: Ditto last note. (1962 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
