Tasted by Bobbusch on 1/9/2022 & rated 94 points: Wowza! Doing some inventory reduction of older vintages . The wine was thoroughly enjoyable. Very well balanced with nice fruit. This did not seem like a 20 year old wine. My last bottle. Fantastic wine . (1580 views)
Tasted by Hilltime on 11/18/2021 & rated 94 points: Drank for my Birthday Dinner @ Capital Grille. Opened and decanted for 90 minutes which it needed. Upon opening, there was no nose to speak off and a very earthy mushroom aroma. The time in the decanter really made this wine sing. A swirl in the glass revealed beautiful floral notes with a deep black fruit essence. Taste was plum and a hint of licorice and mushrooms for a perfectly aged 20 yr old beauty. A bit hot of alcohol at first tasting, but smoothed with the time in the glass.
Paired wonderfully with their grilled filet and lobster mac& cheese and chocolate dessert. A truly magnificent red. (1407 views)
Tasted by peterk on 6/17/2021: Big, rich, fruit-driven, unctuous wine. This has some way to go, in my view. Not for the meek, though. (1661 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 6/2/2020 & rated 93 points: Almost forgot these, in my cellar from about 2011. Paired with a "cowboy" beef stew stew and roasted potatoes. PnP, drank over 90 minutes w Val and Charlotte...

Medium purple/ruby, slightly cloudy. Nose of faded cassis, dark berry, minerals. Palate showing plum, dusted blackberry, cedar, coffee. Picked up some secondary notes of blue fruit and tobacco. Medium weight and finish. Tannins resolved.

A bit like the Medoc meets Napa, with a little age on it. Drank well on this evening, elegantly aged. Did better after an hour, would decant if possible.
Well stored bottles probably go for a while but I dont think this improves, would drink over next 5 years (2187 views)
 Tasted by shaferguy91 on 4/26/2020 & rated 93 points: Decanted 1 hour. (2110 views)
Tasted by djs on 1/11/2020 & rated 92 points: Needs a decant and lots of air. (1384 views)
Tasted by Kevnzworld on 7/18/2019 & rated 93 points: Pnp. Needed a little time to open up.
The fruit is initially more on the nose
At hour two it’s evolved to be a good wine.
Tobacco, stewed berries, orange liquor and a slight vanilla finish
Slightly hot from alcohol but still enjoyable. Possibly better before now, but still good (1472 views)
Tasted by Hamersly on 5/11/2018 & rated 96 points: A powerhouse. Slow oxed for 3 hours. Huge nose and even bigger in the mouth with incredibly sweet tannins balanced by a firm finish. What a treat. (1911 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 3/17/2018 & rated 93 points: Decanted and served with steaks. Last bottle. This was showing more evolved than the others with deep tobacco on the palate and slightly tart, aged fruit. Took an hour or so to integrate. (1727 views)
Tasted by nm10 on 12/2/2017 & rated 93 points: Dark purple still and ripe fruits on the nose. This still has the structure to last several more years. A really great Napa cab. (1768 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 8/11/2017 & rated 92 points: This wine was open for about two hours before I was "the polisher." Wine was in the decanter the whole time. And, between 2 hours and 2.5 hours, it actually changed a bit. This wine first finished with a lot of stiff oak, but then mellowed out quite nicely. Or perhaps it was the back and forth between that and some white wines. Nice maroon pour into the glass. Nose of overripe blackberry. The entry is where I was getting overripe blackberry, milk chocolate M&M (without the sweetness), and cola. The middle turns a bit darker, expresisng more of a soil/terroir. The finish actually gets very youthful but almost a bit more brambly. Quite a delicious finish that ran for 30 seconds after the oak finally blew off. Nice wine! Hoping Joe will bring this one out to play again soon! (2012 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 8/9/2017 & rated 94 points: After an hour decant, balanced, medium body, beautifully concentrated. The purity of the fruit is remarkable. (2049 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 6/12/2017 & rated 94 points: Popped and poured. Delicious classic Napa Cab drinking beautifully. Full palate of primary and secondary fruit, blackberry liqueur, licorice. Evolved over two hours, so if you don't want to go through a brief confused stage give it a brief decant. (1792 views)
Tasted by TomOfCT on 3/14/2017 & rated 96 points: Robust fruits still going strong. A solid wine. Drinking at/near peak. (1847 views)
Tasted by joshabramson on 12/6/2016 & rated 96 points: Excellent! Lots of fruit but nicely balanced with a good bit of structure as well. Really special wine. Drank at dell'anima with Sean Mills! (2143 views)
Tasted by BRR on 10/24/2016 & rated 93 points: This was really showing nicely, and I think it'll hold for another few years. This is full-throttle fruit, not in a subtle way at all, with nose and mouthfuls of blueberry, mocha, plum sauce, and spice. At times, this tiptoed into near-overripe for me, but didn't quite get there. A very fun wine to drink nonetheless, and all the way delicious. Definitely an A-AFWE (anti-anti-flavor-wine-elite) wine. (1767 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 12/6/2015 & rated 99 points: Cooking School Finale Lunch Cabernets WA98-100 (Loretta Paganini School fo Cooking): Bought on release. I seemed to like this more than the group. Dark purple in color. Just an great nose. Cassis, tobacco, slight spice; deep and complex. On the palate, just a great texture. Complex layers of fruit and earth. Seemed to peak after about an hour and slowly fall off. A glass saved in the bottle later at night was the same. Certainly at peak, but should be there for a while I think. (3609 views)
Tasted by Vino Vita on 11/22/2015 & rated 97 points: What a treat. Smooth, unctuous. Incredible mouthfeel. Dark fruit with cassis and dark chocolate. Absolutely lovely. (2500 views)
Tasted by mgstull on 10/9/2015 & rated 96 points: From magnum. Dark purple. The definition of plush. Cassis, plum, dark berries, tobacco, and road tar. Mouth coating and viscous with a finish that goes on forever. (2396 views)
Tasted by S R U D I N on 11/25/2014 & rated 96 points: Stunning lush and rich wine. Drank beautifully until the last drop. 45+ second long finish that coats the tongue with a smooth velvet texture. This wine is truly top notch out of a magnum, would love to try it from an even larger format. (3347 views)
Tasted by winejnky on 12/25/2013 & rated 93 points: Initially a bit dry, with a funky nose so I was worried about a bad bottle. However, after an hour or so this blossomed and showed rich character, black cherry fruit and a wonderful long finish. Smooth yet complex, a great pour today. From 1.5L. (4254 views)
Tasted by S R U D I N on 8/8/2013 & rated 97 points: A near perfect napa wine, drank incredibly well out of the 1.5L. Long finish, rich fruit, and nice mild oak. Love this wine! (4021 views)
Tasted by jfagan on 8/2/2013 & rated 94 points: Decanted for 2 hours. Some fine sediment. Opaque color to thin purple-dusted rim. Classic nose of cassis, fruit liqueur, coffee and sweet spices. Lush, full but balance on entry with layered flavors of dark fruit, graphite, bakers chocolate. There's nice fresh acidity, fine persistent tannins and complimentary classy oak. This monumental is showing its best tonight. Drink now to 2017 (3869 views)
Tasted by jreis on 2/28/2013: Served single blind alongside 7 other Cali Cabs, decanter for an hour+. Mocha, pure ripe blackberry fruit with just a hint of red fruit as welll on the nose. Gorgeous structure and body to it with nice elegant but robust fruit on the palate and consistent from attack to finish. WOTN by a large margin against some tough competition, my personal #2. (4356 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 2/21/2013 & rated 94 points: Inky in color, this did not look like a 12 year old wine. Chocolate covered blackberries, jam and earthy scents were all over the place. Intense, jammy fruit filled your mouth. But the alcoholic heat was noticeable. Wines like this are all about the style. The finish was long, expansive and intense. Clearly this is a top example of a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. But it’s not a wine that was fun to drink. It was over the top. The wine earns a high score for the quality, but if I had a bottle, I’d trade or sell it as it’s not my style. (4005 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
