Tasted by RichEB1 on 4/13/2024 & rated 96 points: 2007 Sine Qua Non, Labels Syrah. Smokey blueberries with olive, spice, and a bit of pepper. Plenty of fruit left, but the acidity is front/center here creating a medium bodied wine and a tremendous mouthefeel. I honestly think that almost anyone would have a hard time not appreciating this wine. It’s not huge, it’s not AFWE….it’s just great. Smack dab in the zone and EXACTLY what I was looking for tonight. Life is good! (436 views)
Tasted by golfhawk on 11/22/2023 & rated 97 points: An outstanding Syrah that had all the qualities of a typical one but each one was spectacular. Long finish and beautiful pure fruit with spice and minerals all in one. One of the best wines I have ever had. (928 views)
Tasted by chugwine on 11/20/2023 & rated 91 points: Drank at TFL on 11/17/23, paired with a 2012 Barbour. Not the best SQN out there. Felt like this was over the hill, fairly hollow mouthfeel. Was hoping for more resolve after more than 10 years in the bottle. Really nice nose, blueberry, fig, anise, just left me wishing I brought a different SQN (885 views)
Tasted by chrisdgsmith@hotmail.co.uk on 7/4/2023 & rated 94 points: Incredibly dark still with almost no sign of bricking, no clue to its age.Great legs. Nose shows black fruits and tar. Lovely intensity of black fruit. Initially very tight but gradually expanding to have figgy/plummy elements. Beautiful.
Increasingly showing secondary elements with exposure to air. Probably not readily mistaken for a Rhone wine because of the extraordinary ripeness but beginning to add some of those flavour elements. (1478 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 4/16/2023 & rated 93 points: SQN Dinner (Jordan's Place - Chicago IL): In 06/07 flight. Powerful and meaty, this has so much here but isn't as perfectly harmonious as the best of SQN, even a little grippy. But so much here. (2642 views)

Tasted by Geoff on 2/12/2023 & rated 95 points: Well aged Syrah, multifaceted nose, smooth mouthfeel with dark fruit and secdondary notes, resolving tannins, full bodied, long long finish. (1622 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/1/2022 & rated 96 points: Beautiful and concentrated bouquet with red berries. On the palate red berries a lot of herbs and spices, sweet chocolate, beautifully fresh acidity, a great concentration and length and elegance as well. A true beauty. (1961 views)
Tasted by kenv on 9/7/2022 & rated 95 points: Dinner with Dan (Chez Mike, East Greenbush, NY): [Double-decanted at 5pm.] On first decanting, the alcohol is quite prominent in the nose and mouth. I put it back in the bottle and put the bottle in the fridge. At the restaurant, it sat out, so it was cool, not cold. I would serve this around 60-65 degrees F (15-18C).
Tasted between 8 and 9pm: Stunning nose of black fruit and spices. Huge and rich with a long finish. Has an elegance and harmony so typical of SQN reds and fairly rare in wines this big. (2072 views)
Tasted by Papies on 8/13/2022 & rated 97 points: Dinner at The Ledbury , London (The Ledbury, London): From the excellent cellar of The Leadbury, London.
We always argue that we drink the Syrahs of SQN too young as a result of impatience and deliciousness of their youth but every now and then ( much like a few months ago the the excellent Poker Face from 2004 - Papies 98) we cross paths with aged ones and they are nothing short of stunning. On top of everything it followed in the footsteps of the magnificent 1996 Mouton ( Papies 97) which was soft and restrained and still shown through albeit in a totally different way.
Big wine for sure but we’ll polished and soft for an SQN level of density wine, well expressive on the nose , spice and dark fruits, not yet smoky but it will. Masterclass and an easy 97. Patience rewarded. (1915 views)
Tasted by VlgJeff on 7/31/2022 & rated 95 points: Deep, dark, and very satisfying. Released over 12 years ago and this wine continues to gather superlatives.
This bottle was decanted for a bit over one hour - to allow the wine to open and to separate out the sediment. Lots of blue and black berries with some earthy bramble on the nose. These followed on to the medium plus bodied palate along with some darker red fruits, a good dose of spice, some chocolate, and a touch of herb. The acidity was up to the task of balancing all the fruit, the tannins were completely integrated, and the finish was long and smooth.
This wine should hold to the 20-year (from vintage) mark, but I'm not certain that it will get any better. (1616 views)
Tasted by D'Yquembe Mutumbo on 7/5/2022 & rated 95 points: Brilliant all around, this was fully ready to go right out of the bottle. Like the little brother of A Shot in the Dark, this was a full bodied and masculine Syrah with a beautiful earthy nose. The palate was equally impressive, a wall of dark fruit, smoke, leather, dark chocolate, nettles. The finish went on and on, it felt like I was still tasting this at the end of the night. SQN never disappoints! (1746 views)
Tasted by markcic on 7/4/2022 & rated 95 points: Just a brilliant bottle of wine. Opened three hours prior to the beginning of consumption. Dark berries and a hint of chocolate on the nose. The palate was dark berries, cherry, plums, tobacco, tree bark and a little chocolate. The finish was rich, full and long. A great way to celebrate our countries birthday. (1499 views)
Tasted by JRockEsq on 1/23/2022: No formal notes.

This was a bit odd. It took maybe 1.5 hours or so to really open up and was excellent at that point -- full, bold, plush, balanced, with nice structure and notes of dark fruit, beef jerky, and some earth. I probably would'e scored it between 94 - 96. However, after 2 to 2.5 hours, it seems to close down again. I don't know what to make of this. (1922 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 12/25/2021 & rated 95 points: Decanted for 1.5 hours. Nose of blackberry liquor, blueberry, chocolate, espresso, spice and bramble. Black and blue fruit, chocolate, bramble, vanilla and spice on the palate. Long, layered finish. Full bodied and dense. Gorgeous wine. Served with a Swedish buffet. (1629 views)

Tasted by WildeMeeuw on 11/19/2021 & rated 98 points: Kleur: Diep ondoordringbaar robijnrood Aroma / bouquet: Wow. Een explosie van aroma’s. Een super-subtiele versie van boerenjongens. Vleesjus. Krachtig. Donkere chocola. Smaak / Afdronk: En weer een wijn om in plakjes te snijden. Wat een concentratie. Dik-sappig. Zoetige tannines. Super lange afdronk. Algemeen / potentieel: Heel veel van alles. Super geconcentreerd maar tegelijkertijd super-gelaagd. Op dit moment SUBLIEM. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 15 + Smaak / Afdronk: 19 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 98/100

Colour: Deep impenetrable ruby red Aroma / bouquet: Wow. An explosion of aromas. A super-subtle version of farm boys. meat gravy. Powerful. Dark chocolate. Taste / Aftertaste: And another wine to cut into slices. What a concentration. Thick-juicy. Sweet tannins. Super long finish. General / potential: A lot of everything. Super concentrated but super-layered at the same time. SUBLIME at the moment. 50 + Colour: 5 + Aroma / Bouquet: 15 + Taste / Aftertaste: 19 + General / Potential: 9 = 98/100 (1874 views)
Tasted by tpbrown5 on 5/31/2021 & rated 95 points: This is a delicious Syrah, lots of blackberry, a little cherry. (2284 views)
Tasted by JonnyG on 2/26/2021 & rated 94 points: Dark, ripe, extracted and indulgent, in other words exactly as expected, and just what the moment called for. The oak is too rich for my taste but there’s enough fruit to hold things in check. I’m not drawn to the SQN Syrah so much anymore, and I doubt this will budge from its current state. (2375 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 1/10/2021 & rated 97 points: Full bodied, rich and delicious, highly extracted blackberry, blueberry, with toasty oak, earth, and hint of white pepper, excellent structure, sweet dusty tannins, long finish, fantastic. This one is still in its prime. (2588 views)
Tasted by raydawgone on 1/3/2021 & rated 100 points: Stood upright out of cellar for 4-hours. Quick taste test, no decant needed. Dark, opaque color, shades of deep purple, almost graphite. Clarity, perfectly clear. Aromatic & powerful, mocha, smoked meats and fresh violets, laced with herbs...very intense scents. Off-dry, full-throttle body. Fresh, laser focused acidity. High, round tannins. Exceptionally integrated balance. Layer upon layer of black & blue fruits, smoked meats, wet shale, Herbs de Provence & dollop of milk chocolate on seemingly endless, silky finish! The single greatest bottle I've ever consumed! It topped my previous favorite Syrah, which was an A. Clape from Cornas. Absolute perfection Mr. & Mrs. Krankl! (2472 views)
Tasted by Opusone99 on 12/28/2020 & rated 95 points: Très belle bouteille! 95-96. (1991 views)
Tasted by fingers on 12/15/2020 & rated 95 points: Notes after following for 24 hours open. Very little change in character after the first hour.
Beautiful dark ruby color, almost fully opaque with clear and very heavy legs, no sediment.
Profound nose with a nice blackberry pie top note and warm spices and oak underneath. Fantastically smooth palate with long and haunting elements of the bouquet stretching through a very long finish. I believe this is probably at peak enjoyment and should do well for another 5 years.

Tasted by BROpus One on 11/21/2020 & rated 92 points: Not quite the impressive mouth feel and finish as other SQN but a beautiful nose and solid bottle of wine. (1852 views)
Tasted by Niagara on 11/11/2020: Loved it, can’t say I’ve ever had an SQN that didn’t deliver, though I will say this one isn’t maybe quite at the top rank of SQNs. That said, leaves 99% of other wines in the dust. (1893 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
