(1261 views) | | Tasted by cchoukal on 3/1/2019: Lacks complexity and a LITTLE sweet, but a decent balance of fruit and tannin and a satisfying mid-range cab. (1376 views) | | Tasted by NoWineWiz on 7/13/2018 & rated 90 points: Another enjoyable bottle with similar tasting notes to my previous! (1405 views) | | Tasted by NoWineWiz on 7/12/2017 & rated 90 points: PnP, a little off balance at first sip, but then allowed to open up for 1/2 hour and this came together nicely with a well-rounded palate similar to past notes, soft tannins and medium long finish. (2030 views) | | Tasted by Lax4 on 3/5/2016 & rated 91 points: nice tasting wine with hints of carmel, oak. Nice long taste from beginning to end (2858 views) | | Tasted by lovemycab on 9/5/2015 & rated 90 points: used Vinturi and enjoyed. Seems to be in a good place. Can't see it getting any better (2531 views) | | Tasted by kingboo on 8/30/2015 & rated 94 points: Very well structured and complex. (2488 views) | | Tasted by NoWineWiz on 4/5/2015 & rated 91 points: PnP. Well integrated and finessed palate of dark berries, tobacco, and spice box with lightly gripping tannins and medium finish. (2542 views) | | Tasted by lovemycab on 4/4/2015 & rated 89 points: These last two bottles haven't been the same as the one I opened earlier in the year. Perhaps this is in a bad place or just getting a little long in the tooth right now. More tannins than fruit. Have a few more left so will just put them away and try and hope there is another window on this. (2062 views) | | Tasted by lovemycab on 2/17/2015 & rated 91 points: decanted for 30. Really drinking great right now. Compared to last bottle it has softened and waiting for you to drink. Enjoy now (1337 views) | | Tasted by Halfeel on 12/12/2014 & rated 93 points: This wine is getting even better after a few years in the cellar. Wish I had bought a few more at the time it was available for $30 a bottle. (1438 views) | | Tasted by wehouck on 10/3/2014 & rated 92 points: Dark inky color, surprisingly light nose, touch of oak and dark berries. Medium bodied, easy drinking. Moderate finish. (1710 views) | | Tasted by NoWineWiz on 7/20/2014 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 1 hour. More of the same as my previous notes. Very enjoyable! (1328 views) | | Tasted by Grand Gris on 7/10/2014 & rated 91 points: So good == a delight! (1385 views) | | Tasted by bmurph29 on 5/6/2014 & rated 90 points: Should have let it decant longer. (1563 views) | | Tasted by farinas on 3/24/2014 & rated 92 points: This is a fruit bomb of a cabernet but it is very well put together with no hard edges and velvety oak and tannins. For those wanting more structure, this is not your type however it's a nice and elegant drink for the rest of us. (1527 views) | | Tasted by 1961Vintage on 2/9/2014 & rated 92 points: Spot on. Really fruit forward. Missed a higher score on the abrupt finish..Plenty of life left in the bottle...extending drinking window by 2 years. (1374 views) | | Tasted by 1961Vintage on 1/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Classic Cali cab. Loved the nose. Nice complexities, vibrant deep red fruit, very approachable out of the bottle. Love to dfind a few more bottles at $27.99! (1288 views) | | Tasted by lovemycab on 10/5/2013 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured at a restaurant. Quite enjoyable. Tannins have softened so this is drinking nicely right now. I would drink up as more age won't help it much, but just risking the fruit. (1535 views) | | Tasted by scarce10 on 5/5/2013 & rated 91 points: Big fruit, don't think age will improve this wine. Drinking nicely now. (1732 views) | | Tasted by buffyst on 9/30/2012 & rated 92 points: Served with an anniversary dinner for Earl and Carolyne. A great big hit! And a reminder of the depth of character that grapes sourced from the Kuleto Estate achieve, benefiting from higher elevations and soils of loose shale, red clay, and loam. (2057 views) | | Tasted by 1961Vintage on 8/7/2012 & rated 93 points: Score is a day two score...really evolving (2712 views) | | Tasted by 1961Vintage on 7/26/2012 & rated 91 points: Nice and jammy.. (2645 views) | | Tasted by philandjoyce on 6/11/2012 & rated 90 points: Joyce - Good things come to those who wait, you need to let this one breathe, got to open up to really appreciate it. What you expect from a good Cab. Once you've paid your dues, you will not be disappointed. (2505 views) | | Tasted by philandjoyce on 6/11/2012 & rated 92 points: Phil - Very full bodied, deep flavor, smooth finish. Gets better the longer it breathes. You definitely want to decant this one. (2693 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
| Kuleto Estate Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
