Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 11/24/2023 & rated 93 points: Closed on the first night by massive tannins but opened up on the second night. Dark fruit, cassis and anise. Still tons of structure and a bit of a bruiser. These are nowhere near peak. (579 views)
Tasted by Odedis.Wine.reviews on 1/6/2023 & rated 93 points: Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Dry and very fruity on the palate, with medium acidity and long legs.

Showing black fruits with cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, earth, licorice, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.

Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Showing nice complexity with a great mouthfeel.

Smooth and elegant, with a gorgeous nose. Rich, extracted and so enjoyable by itself.

Robert Parker 94 points.

This 10 year old is good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours of airtime.

Love these Napa Bordeaux Blends, especially from this great 2013 vintage.

A blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Grapes are from Oakville and Stags Leap regions, and were fermented together. 559 cases produced.

14.7% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$325 (current vintage). (880 views)
Tasted by awilliamson4 on 2/14/2021 & rated 93 points: Really great Napa cab. Drank in honor of Wiley's birthday. (1508 views)
Tasted by jcampano on 2/5/2021 & rated 94 points: Decanted for 2 hours, and drank over the next 2. Bold flavors of black cherry, blueberry and crushed rocks. A very good bottle, but not great. I think it needs another 2 -5 years in the bottle. Drank side-by-side with a much less expensive 2008 OV, and the OV was much more flavorful. (1289 views)
Tasted by Alfaro on 9/14/2020 & rated 96 points: Superlatively decadent (1581 views)
Tasted by blarmston on 9/8/2020 & rated 93 points: Popped this last night.

Not sure what was more disappointing- this wine for the first three hours, or Francis Tiafoe laying an egg on national TV at the US Open.

This began to show its goodies, but only after a several hour decant and vigorous "coaxing" while in glass. She will get there, but it clearly needs time.

Lay down remaining bottles for at least 3-5 years, maybe more.

For those who own this, I wouldn't be in any rush to pop a cork. (2203 views)
Tasted by jcampano on 4/24/2020 & rated 95 points: Bold aromas of violets, blackberry, black cherry and cedar. On the palate, this wine was magnificent...a complex array of black cherries, blackberry jam, plums, licorice and mocha with an earthiness that added structure to the wine. Drink now or over the next 10 years. (1278 views)
Tasted by lucaslabelle on 1/1/2020 & rated 80 points: Not interesting at all. Hold or sell. (986 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 4/19/2019 & rated 93 points: The nose is all violet flowers to start which then gave way to more Bordeaux-Like aromas. The in mouth feel is delicate and elegant. Not a modern fruit bomb at alll. Briefly hinted at modern Cabernet but the palette was all Bordeaux. While I know that it is built on a platform of Modern Napa, I sensed the Old World structure in the flavors of this wine.

Probably provided by the classic blend that this wine is a product of.

All that said this wine is still too young but I see the potential future greatness of this wine. The flavors included Wild berries, anise, and dried herb follow through. Aftertaste is medium in length and has distinct cigar box feel to it.

I would still HOLD for several more years (1290 views)
Tasted by jgreco on 11/10/2018 & rated 93 points: Wine Advocate: Grand Walkabout Tasting (NYC): Nose of black currants and black pepper spice. Lovely, but still needs a lot of time for the tannins to soften. (1865 views)
Tasted by rylanreynolds on 4/24/2017: Needs more time in the bottle. I'm finding the 2013's quite unapproachable when they're young (2893 views)
Tasted by dlcass on 1/19/2017 & rated 93 points: Nice wine. Quite young and tight. Decanted. Improved after an hour or two but a little tight and linear. Nice density and acidity. Not that expressive or interesting at this point. 93-94 but leaning toward 93. Deep blue black color. Notes of graphite, flowers, blackberry but restrained at this point. (2641 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 11/18/2016 & rated 91 points: Gorgeous medium red that really catches the light. Sweet red fruits and a strange bit of funk on the nose. Raw, powerful tannins with strawberries, slightly unripe raspberries, and a strange funky note that matches up with the nose. (2560 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 3/10/2016 & rated 91 points: Just received my allocation of this wine and I thought to try one of these young "New" wines. This one had a violet flower start on the palette which gave way to more restrained Bordeaux-Like flavors. The coloring reminded me of a young rich Cabernet. It was absolutely beautiful when I looked at it in the glass. The aromas hinted at modern Cabernet, but the taste was all Bordeaux. While I know that it is built on a platform of Modern Napa, I sensed the Old World structure in the flavors of this wine. Probably provided by the Meritage that this wine is a product of (cab, cab franc, petit verdot). I would prefer more Cabernet fruit and I did not find that here. I appreciate this effort and I can state that having had many Futo Cab's I suppose I was spoiled expecting that in this wine.

All that said this wine is still too young to really judge but I see the potential future greatness of this wine. The flavors included espresso, blackberry, and tobacco with a dried herb follow through. Aftertaste is medium in length and has distinct cigar box feel to it.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
