| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.5 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 30 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Renzloh on 3/4/2022 & rated 89 points: Paired well with our sushi. It is bright and lively. Not as floral as many similar wines. (1212 views) | | Tasted by iByron on 7/27/2021 & rated 89 points: Star bright straw gold. Abundant funky nose of burning citrus and funghi. Medium palate is much cleaner than the nose yielding toasted lemon, white guava, and white pepper with a bit of birch on the finish. Medium plus acidity. Medium finish. A fine example of California Fumé style SB. Okay as a sipper, but built for a meal. Swordfish and scallops come racing to mind, but any white fleshed fish or shellfish should pair wonderfully. Or just upscale your fried chicken. It’s good for that, too. Drink now through 2024. (2066 views) | | Tasted by Echodog on 6/12/2021 & rated 92 points: Amazing Sauvignon Blanc. Tropical aromas fill the air of glass. Tastes of butter, tropical fruits, citrus, lemongrass. Crisp and complex. Amazing value for an under $30 bottle of summer sipping wine. 알리오올리오 같은 매콤쌉싸름한 파스타와 잘어울릴듯 (1675 views) | | Tasted by now_in_mi on 5/23/2021 & rated 92 points: A very light Fume, with tropical fruit flavors. The wine even pleased non SB drinkers, it a delight to drink on a hot day. (1737 views) | | Tasted by sid_loves_wine on 5/2/2021 & rated 92 points: Pretty nice- sets itself apart from most inexpensive Sauvignon Blanc, showing the usual tropical and citrus fruit tones (lemon, grapefruit, etc), but also a fairly nice dose of smoky minerality or herbal nuance. I definitely got lemongrass as other commenters have noted.
It's not quite not so harmonious or intense to warrant $30 IMO- felt similar to say, Dog Point (N.Z. Sauv Blanc), which costs $10 less and shows far more intensity and even elegance. Still, this was a nice example with fair complexity. (1174 views) | | Tasted by beerwineben on 4/18/2021 & rated 92 points: Opens with huge aromas of tropical fruit: passion fruit, lime, papaya, plus an herbaceous element of fresh cut grass. Some minerality. Similar flavors of tart tropical fruit, passion fruit and lime, lemon curd. Fresh acidity and well balanced. The finish leaves you wanting another sip. Very nice. (628 views) | | Tasted by mjgkng on 3/14/2021 & rated 91 points: Tropical fruit and lemongrass. (583 views) | | Tasted by mjgkng on 3/11/2021 & rated 92 points: Tropical fruit, lemongrass and long finish. Excellent SB. Organic. Will buy again and again! (496 views) | | Tasted by UmichR on 2/25/2021: Wife says no more (658 views) | | Tasted by JTROCKER on 2/24/2021 & rated 92 points: One of the better Sauvignon Blancs that we've had in quite a while. Flavorful and crisp with a solid sense of the fruit and lemongrass flavors. Nice minerality and a touch of spice. Will definitely look for another bottle. (600 views) | | Tasted by Halfeel on 2/20/2021 & rated 91 points: Solid (568 views) | | Tasted by Vinnut on 1/4/2021 & rated 90 points: Pale golden yellow in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of fresh citrus fruits of lemons/limes, apples & grapefruit with overtones of floral & lemongrass, herbs, minerals & a hint of smokiness. Light bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, zesty fruit flavors of lemons/limes, green apples & grapefruit with lemongrass, herbs, minerals & a hint of oak. Lingering dry finish. Drinks quite well at present & may develop with an additional year of aging. (663 views) | | Tasted by Winedoc22 on 1/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Typical Sauvignon Blanc with bright acidity and fresh grapefruit and green apple. Just enough cedar and touch of smoke to call it a Fume Blanc. (492 views) | | Tasted by kargie@gmail.com on 12/27/2020 & rated 92 points: Crisp, high acid, very refreshing. (492 views) | | Tasted by RojoVino24 on 12/18/2020 & rated 90 points: Very pale, almost translucent. Tons of mineral on the nose. Struck match was big up front. Lemon zest with herb and grass. Some apricot as well. Mild acidity with good overall balance. Mid palette is heavy feel. Started to show oak and vanilla as it opened. (545 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 11/24/2020: A bit of smoke, a bit of power to it. Tasty, full bodied, rich tasting. (836 views) | | Tasted by Big Juicy Red on 6/20/2020: Pale straw in color. Lemon, plus a bit of grapefruit and other citrus notes, with just the faintest hint of bitterness on the finish. High acid, moderate plus complexity, moderate finish. Very nice on a hot summer day, or with tomato mozzarella sandwiches. (900 views) | | Tasted by MC2 Wines on 5/8/2019: At a work dinner. This was actually a really nice food wine which surprised me a bit. Worked very well for the seafood courses (halibut and scallop). More of a rounded mouthful. Very dry as it notes in the name. Had a touch of the green that can come with this wine that somehow seems to disappear when paired with salad and turns almost more honey-like. Interesting. | Grgich Hills Producer website2017 Grgich Hills Sauvignon Blanc Fumé BlancWinemaker Notes Relying on naturally-occurring yeasts, we fermented a portion of the grapes in 900-gallon French oak casks, called foudres, with the remainder in oak barrels. We then aged the wine for six months on its lees (the spent yeast) in neutral barrels. On the nose, the wine displays fresh, tropical notes of pineapple, kiwi, and peach followed by melon, lime and fresh apple on the palate. The wine’s crisp and balanced acidity makes it the perfect pairing with filet of sole, pork loin and savory goat cheese.Sauvignon Blanc Varietal CharacterUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
