Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 25 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by td1836 on 7/16/2016 & rated 91 points: Similar to my previous notes. This was my last bottle and it was going just as strong as ever. Really lovely, balanced chardonnay. (1461 views)
Tasted by shaffej on 9/7/2015 & rated 90 points: Wonderfully buttery with hints of oak and nicely balanced acid. Drank alone but could also stand up to food. I'd say drink now. (1652 views)
Tasted by prof b on 7/24/2015: This is still drinking really well. Nice acidity and minerality, though the fruit isn't as prominent in this bottle as others I've had. (1898 views)
Tasted by prof b on 4/5/2015 & rated 91 points: for my palate, this continues to improve. It is just a luscious and delicious wine. Enjoyed this one with roasted whole chicken plus sides. Saved half for tomorrow. I'm quite glad to have three more. (1949 views)
Tasted by shaffej on 9/7/2014 & rated 90 points: Lovely buttery Chard (2102 views)
Tasted by td1836 on 7/10/2014 & rated 91 points: Medium deep gold/amber color. Zesty nose with lemon and stone. Sweet citrus, vanilla, caramel, creamy. Good length on the finish. (666 views)
Tasted by prasm on 3/22/2014 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured, consumed over 4 hours. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, baked bread, lemon curd pie, black licorice, and wet stone. Palate: Medium bodied, sweet tropical citrus attack, nice creamy mouth-feel, great mid-palate with nice fruit and good acidic presence, definite minerality appearance thru the mid-palate to back-end. Finish: Medium plus length dominated by creamy citrus, minerals, and licorice.

I'm a believer in this effort - high volume, decent complexity, and good balance - a winner in my book. (1045 views)
Tasted by td1836 on 11/15/2013 & rated 91 points: Medium gold color. On the nose, candied pineapple with a little lemon. Full bodied flavors, vanilla and tropical fruits, good length on the finish. It's a bold chard, but still has nice acidic balance. (402 views)
Tasted by ecola on 2/14/2013 & rated 89 points: Shows solid weight without being viscous. Nice mix of acidity and oak. Bright pear, apple and citrus. Moderate length finish. (1782 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 2/5/2013 & rated 90 points: Detected a little more vanilla flavor, but still quite interesting. (1699 views)
Tasted by bg3034 on 1/4/2013 & rated 88 points: Dark yellow color, almost honey. On the nose, melons, pineapple and some oak. On the palate, its woody, but has some nice fruit notes. The oaky vanilla flavors are prevalent, but don't completely dominate. Good for what it is. 88 pts. Better quaffer than food wine. Aloha! (1717 views)
Tasted by JOJ on 12/24/2012 & rated 90 points: On the nose, aromas of citrus, green apple, lemon meringue and white peach. Palate of green apple, lemon custard, and nutmet. Nice acidity keeps it refreshing. A very good wine. (1565 views)
Tasted by Phredd on 12/22/2012 & rated 88 points: Dark yellow, almost amber, this wine looks fairly oaky, and that is confirmed on the nose, which has some solid apple, pineapple, and wood. The palate follows with those flavors, and the wine is reasonably well-balanced, although I would like a little more edge to it. It is well-rounded to the point of being just a touch boring. The finish is medium short, and while there is nothing offensive going on, I don't think there's really anything distinctive going on, either. For $17, it is fine, but it doesn't over-deliver on the price. (1350 views)
Tasted by ecola on 11/6/2012 & rated 86 points: Some oaky vanilla is still present, but the fruit is not as bright. Just average and not very exciting. Nothing offensive. (1058 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 10/31/2012 & rated 91 points: Crisp, pineapple, melon, tangerine and ruby grapefruit flavor. Sweet scent and zippy palate. (1021 views)
Tasted by prof b on 8/30/2012 & rated 88 points: a bit more fruit on this than the 08, which is more mineral driven. Still an excellent value. (1583 views)
Tasted by Eugene on 7/25/2012 & rated 88 points: Too oaky for my taste at this point. I really emjoyed previous vintages but not this one.
Caramel, creme brule, hazelnut-all oak infused flavors. Not much of anything else. I am not sure if age will help as I don't see neither a lot of acidity nor much of fruit. (1594 views)
Tasted by ecola on 3/21/2012 & rated 90 points: Showing more oak influence than the 08, but I think some of that may blow off with bottle time. There is some acidity and green apple on the medium to full body. Needs some time to calm down and balance itself out. After a few hours more acidity pops out and the oak backs off. (1695 views)
Tasted by benjordan on 12/15/2011: Really good. (2253 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
