Community Tasting Notes (average 89.1 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by dinwiddie on 3/20/2008 & rated 90 points: Nice balance of citrus and pear, with a nice minerallity. It is really coming together nicely, and in about 6 months should be absolutely stunning. (4281 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 12/29/2007 & rated 90 points: After staring at this bottle on the rack for a few months, I decided I couldn't wait to put the poor bottle out of its misery so I took it over to a Holiday Open House at my wife's co-worker's home. OK, the wine is finally doing what it was probably meant to do all along. It's finally in balance -- nice acid, but in balance with the rest of the wine. Delicious layers of pear, lemon and lime with a great minerality (limestone) that has never shown its face before for me. Nice finish too. If only I had waited to drink all of these bottles until now. <sigh> 90 pts. (4460 views)
Tasted by caboychuck on 9/29/2007 & rated 91 points: Gold in color, again with a good amount of sediment in neck. Nose is nice with toast, butter, lemon/lime comes out with a little air. On the palate this is nice and crisp. Toasty oak, tart fruit, and lemon custard or keylime pie shows up. This is my last bottle and they've all been very enjoyable. (4514 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 8/12/2007 & rated 86 points: leaner and less overtly acidic this wine is just starting to come in to balance -- finally! Still too one-dimensional of a fruit profile though. Getting better. 86 pts. (4426 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 4/1/2007 & rated 85 points: Still tart and acidic and lemon-limey. Better than the last bottle but still disappointing. 85pts (4412 views)
Tasted by rjoyer on 3/27/2007: Tons of flint and lemon curd. (3513 views)
Tasted by caboychuck on 3/5/2007 & rated 92 points: Color: cloudy greenish gold. A lot of sediment in neck. Nose: buttered toast. Palate: crisp & lively, nose really suggests more oak, but I get more tart green apple. (3596 views)
Tasted by caboychuck on 12/14/2006 & rated 92 points: Color: goldish, cloudy. Lots of sediment in neck. Nose: butter at first then lemon zest. Palate: Just as nice as I remember. Dry, some oak, butter & lemon, long, nice balance. (3806 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 9/3/2006 & rated 82 points: Chalky and too acidic for me. Should I give up and give these away? Meh. 82 pts. (2997 views)
Tasted by caboychuck on 8/29/2006 & rated 93 points: Color is a dark yellow gold. Nose: is lemon/lime citrus, lemon custard or key lime pie; minerally, def. lemon/lime dessert pies; little buttered toast. Palate: nice, crisp-clean feel, wow this is great; lemon/lime definately comes out; no fatness or oakiness at all; minerally. Not at all what you would expect in a CA chard. Immediately ordered more of this wine. (4110 views)
Tasted by budman on 7/23/2006 & rated 90 points: High acidity, and a ton of citrus. A little subtlety would have helped!!! (4468 views)
Tasted by budman on 5/28/2006 & rated 91 points: Better than the prior 2 bottles I've had. Looks like this wine will continue to improvewith age. High acidity, and lots of fruit. (4760 views)
Tasted by jaybdavis on 5/25/2006 & rated 92 points: Wow. I was truly suprised how much I enjoyed this wine. The opposite of many butter+oak bombs. My notes are not contemporaneous but what stansds out in my memory is crisp acidity without being bracing. Fruit upfront but not overly sweet. Seems great for sipping or as a food wine. It made the Dumol we had along side it seem flabby and oaky. (4859 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 4/1/2006 & rated 84 points: Meh. Very tart lemon and a good amount of chalkiness. Just unbalanced. Tasted with food and without. Food helped, but not much. Hoping to see it develop in to something I really enjoy instead of not. (3021 views)
Tasted by imbibe on 12/15/2005 & rated 90 points: slightly cloudy pale gold appearance. citrus and nut oil on the nose and palate. Good acidity and overall balance, with a long lemon curd finish. very good (5308 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 12/1/2005 & rated 87 points: Good, but a little too acidic for me at this time and a bit too much lemon, but I think this has potential. These need to sit for a bit before I try them again. Maybe in the spring of 2006 I'll pop the next one. 87 pts (4428 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
