Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 25 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by gilrbo on 8/7/2021: Light yellow, still with greenish hues, clear.
On the nose some reduction at first and the impression of a young wine. A touch f citrus fruit, yogurt, white melon, a green touch. Nice balance between a certain body and the lively acidity. A mineral spine runs through the wine which also has a lemony note. It finishes with a play between a saline and a lemon sorbet note. Not particularly long. High quality wine which is not yet at peak. (1225 views)
Tasted by rikipedia on 5/1/2020 & rated 95 points: Mid yellow. Distinct yellow apple and orchard fruit with a mineral flint element on the first nose - then puff pastry, white peach, hints of butter, tart tatin, lemon cream and sea spray. The palate adds a fabulous rapier-like line of acidity that threads its way through what is a fleshy mid-palate. There is real depth to the mid-palate, an outstanding balance of vibrant ripe fruits against the incisive acidity and the finish chases minerals and more saline moments. I think it may repay even further cellaring. Smart wine from a top vintage. (1100 views)
Tasted by Bordeaux_Jon on 2/23/2020 & rated 95 points: Great news, this wine is incredible from a half bottle, so full bottles will only get better soon! My wife guessed it was Montrachet blind. Citrus and tropical fruits with great depth and a long finish, the wine is disappearing fast making me wish it was a full bottle. More impressive than the 2007 Corton Charlemagne I had a couple years back. (1921 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 6/23/2019 & rated 93 points: Way more open than last time, this shows lemon cream and fine minerals in an impeccably balanced package. Superb. (2110 views)
Tasted by J o e on 1/27/2017 & rated 93 points: Very pale yellow. Intoxicating aromas of lime, white flowers, sea spray and a healthy dose of reduction that took the better part of an hour to dissipate. On the nose alone, this could easily be mistaken for Chablis. Medium-bodied, dominated by white fruit, minerals and a rapier-like acidity that cuts a broad swath across the palate. Finishes quite long, with a strong sensation of liquid stone that gradually fades away. An excellent white Burgundy, if a bit embryonic at this stage. 93. (3944 views)
Tasted by Comte Flaneur on 4/6/2016 & rated 92 points: Lively, youthful, focused, intense. Clean, vibrant and precise. Very impressive but it could use a couple more years. (3647 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 12/26/2015 & rated 90 points: Very young and extremely tightly coiled. This has serious raw material, but most of it is hidden behind somewhat monolithic fruit and acids. The fruit is super-bright showing lime citrus charged by high acidity and admirable minerality. This is enjoyable now, especially with food, but I expect it to open up significantly with time. (3730 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 12/2/2015 & rated 93 points: this was out of this world, surprised to see my prior note as it completely understates the quality of this bottle... this was great acid and citrus, literally mouthwatering, a touch of mint and a touch of sweetness, minerals mixed in although more in the backseat... WOW!! I immediately went to buy some and there are no bottles available in the U.S.... i guess i shouldn't be surprised - PYCM is a star (3453 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 10/25/2015: Really backwards, tight and pure. Fresh lemon fruits. Linear, sharp and focused. Excellent length of flavor. So much mineral. (3827 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 7/10/2015 & rated 89 points: More refreshing than interesting, with great sensations of minerality, the color was incredibly light, the fruit was bright, perhaps too bright, with its fresh squeezed lemon, lime characteristics. (3139 views)
Tasted by johnh1001 on 4/7/2014 & rated 91 points: Lovely wine. Much better on day 2. (3325 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 1/1/2014 & rated 91 points: no notes, drank with Tiff while in San Diego with the boys for a surf trip, nice bite, obviously very young but good material, was more tropical funny enough on night one and then some more citrus on night two (3023 views)
Tasted by johnh1001 on 12/20/2013 & rated 92 points: Tighter tonight. (3002 views)
Tasted by johnh1001 on 12/8/2013 & rated 93 points: Another great bottle. (2912 views)
Tasted by johnh1001 on 11/12/2013 & rated 93 points: Just getting to know this producer. Really impressive. Match stick nose, serious white fruit, tropical notes and mineral streak. Despite the light color this has great depth and weight. A little dry on the finish but it lasts forever (2757 views)
Tasted by Average Wine Guy (MH) on 7/20/2013 & rated 93 points: The 2010 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes is an absolutely lovely wine that is pale yellow in colour. Wine was left to breathe in the bottle for about 45 minutes before really approaching it.

A complex nose layered with apricots, walnuts, pear and an underlying toast. On the palate, walnuts and a slight spice are definitely noticeable upon the entry which quickly gave way to juicy honey dew, pear, macadamia and somehow underneath that, flavours of buttered corn. Nice gentle and balanced oak flavours, acidity driven. Flavours are very focused and intense on the mid palate. A slightly dry finish of lemons with good minerality that lasts in the prolonged finish.

A wine of good finesse yet soft and very approachable. Loved it! (2081 views)
Tasted by alanr on 3/13/2013 & rated 92 points: 2013 La Paulee, New York; 3/12/2013-3/14/2013: Rich and vibrant, so well balanced, lasting finish (3792 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/9/2013: Focus on 2010 Burgundy- The 2013 La Paulee Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion, New York): A clear step up in quality from the Ancegnieres. Stronger citrus fruit, more flesh but still great acidity and minerality. Absolutely delightful Chassagne. (3575 views)
Tasted by xwine on 3/9/2013: La Paulée de New York 2013 Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion, New York): Considerable step up here, more material, orchard fruit, quite nice. (2913 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/9/2013: La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting. Slightly tropical fruit elements with lots of apple and pear. Lemon seems to emerge at finish, giving an energetic, refreshing finish. (3599 views)
Tasted by MatthewF on 2/13/2013 flawed bottle: Corked. Boo. (1942 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 10/23/2012 & rated 92 points: Burgundy 2012 Day 3: Visit to Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey (Chassagne-Montrachet, Burgundy): Yet another very acomplished wine, though I must say that the trio 2011 St Aubin's that preceded it were so good that there was not much to choose between these. if anything, this was a bit tighter and less giving. The nose was classic Chassagne, with gentle oak notes framing subtle, but attractive scents of ripe white fruit, nectar and honeyscukle flowers floating over some mushroom and peppercorn inflections. The palate was rather richer and riper in its white-fruit and pear attack than the other wines we had, with a good amount of extract and texture. But this was also laced with a nice mouthwatering crispness and more citrussy notes of juicy lemons on the midpalate, so that the wine always showed a laser-like sense of focus and definition. There was just a bit of heat here that threw me off a little, but past that, the heat quickly dissipated into long, minerally finish, with ginger and honeyscukle notes lingering amidst nice pear flavours. A very solid wine, perhaps a little on the ripe side, but one that should age very nicely. I would give this a good 5-6 years to develop in the bottle. (3675 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/10/2012: Colin-Morey 2010s (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Pretty, floral aromatics. Delicate, lighter weight. Very pure and classic with enamel challenging acidity and a good dose of earth. Very young, absolutely lovely. (2732 views)
Tasted by benhalton on 7/17/2012: obviously painfully young but still showing deep, concentrated fruit and a tingling, electric acidity that I associate with my (very limited) experience with Coche. You can drink this now with great pleasure if you like them young, no doubt it will develop nicely over a few years. **** (2240 views)

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Producer Website

After leaving his family domaine in 2005, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has established himself as one of the rising stars of Burgundy. Pierre-Yves has built a strong reputation for crafting exquisite white Burgundy that display energy and vitality. The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts, aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly in 350 litre barrels with no lees stirring and no filtration. More recently Pierre-Yves has sourced Pinot Noir from some exceptional vineyards further north in the Cote d'Or, and these are also exciting wines true to their appellation. The corks used come from one tiny supplier and are extra long and extra wide (55mm x 25mm) for the village, 1er cru and Grand cru wines and are untreated with no paraffin and the bottles are then sealed with soft wax to ensure no problems with premature oxidation. The resulting wines are built to age classically up to 10 years or more.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
