Tasted by rickspicks on 12/11/2014 & rated 88 points: I drink this wine several times a year by the glass as it is reasonably priced and consistently good. I purchased a bottle this time and it was just what I expected - with one exception. The exception was that it had a bit of a vegetal, slightly bitter component that I typically do not experience with this wine. Otherwise nice ripe cherry, medium body with a smooth, silky texture and a firm structure (same structure as always - and a primary reason why I like this merlot over other similarly priced merlots that are often flabby). (2075 views)
Tasted by Larry RG on 11/6/2014 & rated 90 points: This is a good value Merlot. A little oak and notes of cherry on the nose. Bright, flavorful and smooth mouth feel with a medium finish. (2331 views)
Tasted by wirelesswine on 11/3/2014 & rated 88 points: Solid for the price, this proved to be a reliable merlot but nothing I would run out to rebuy. Perhaps a bit too much oak for me. (2209 views)
Tasted by Chip Merlot on 10/25/2014 & rated 91 points: A wine I've always liked at a fair price point since the mid 1990s, this vintage kicks it up a notch. It's a solid, well-rounded, silky-drinking merlot, lots of red and black fruits, a bit of oak and just goes down really well. Bought a case and may go back for more - I think it should drink well for a few years. (1736 views)
Tasted by Zuperdaave on 10/16/2014 & rated 90 points: Delicious. Deep purple color. Cherries on the nose. Soft, supple gentle texture and flavors of cherry, oak, and plum. (1693 views)
Tasted by Risky on 7/6/2014 & rated 92 points: great deep berry nose and aftertaste; velvety texture (1970 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
