Tasted by ekorn on 3/16/2024: Popped and poured. Bought from a store a couple years back. Same impression as BDEBLANK — almost amarone like, particularly on the nose with all of its dried fruit. The palate was dominated by tobacco and black cherry with some remaining freshness that saves this from drinking too port-like. (205 views)
Tasted by gharter on 2/26/2024 & rated 92 points: A beautifully mature Cabernet. PnP, not decant needed. Opens with black fruit, cassis, plum, light leather, earth, slight cedar. Lots of flavor with black fruits, cassis, anise, leather, earth, cedar. Beautiful balance. smooth silky , long finish. In a great drinking window. Based on this bottle, no hurry to open but drinking really well. (334 views)
Tasted by bdeblank on 2/5/2024 & rated 88 points: To late, at least for this bottle. Almost amarone-like upon opening. After decanting for an hour, much of that had blown away, but still came across as tired. (402 views)
Tasted by numcwrt2 on 12/26/2023 & rated 95 points: Last bottle of this. I see I posted an unenthusiastic TN in 2010 but can't recall how other bottles showed in the ensuing years. This bottle was fantastic. Decanted for a few hours.. No sign of bricking. Rich, lush, dark fruits, on the palate. Tannins resolved but I think this wine is on a long plateau. Pure pleasure. Can't imagine how good the Reserve must be. (441 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 9/8/2023 & rated 94 points: Well worth the wait (646 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 5/18/2022 & rated 93 points: I think this wine has truly out performed expectations. Still quite lively and their base label cabernet at 21 years it still just rocks the house. (1528 views)
Tasted by DesMarteau on 4/30/2022 & rated 95 points: still young...needs a hour of air to come together....really fruit forward and integrated cherry, raspberry, blueberries....aged well...great wine. last one of a case. (1357 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 12/24/2021 & rated 97 points: Opened 2hrs prior to dinner & decided to slox-ox in BDX glass & btl the rest of the way. Color is opaque garnet red. Fantastic perfuse, tertiary BDX like scents of cigar box, pencil, dark fruit & underbrush. The cigar box & dark fruit carry over to the palate where we pickup licorice, herbs & a hint of stoniness. I love that this has structure and energy to support its massive concentration keeping it fresh and weightless in a relative since for the varietal. An outstanding 20yr old Bob Foley ( original winemaker) Pride Mt Cab that would stand up well in a flight of BDXs or CA classics like Dunn HM or Ridge Monte Bellow. Purchased on release from Pride many moons ago and still going strong. Can't imagine this getting any better nor dropping off soon. 14.5% alc was perfectly integrated and un-noticed. A good 1/2" of sludge at the bottom of the btl though:). A really fun Christmas Eve wine that our "kids" loved too! (1943 views)
Tasted by Peech on 5/21/2021 & rated 92 points: pretty funky nose, so overripe it was like grape jelly. Alcoholic on the palate, still medium-bodied and concentrated. Cedar notes and almost honeydew melon. (419 views)
Tasted by devraj on 1/23/2021 & rated 93 points: Dark purple-red in color. Soaring aromas of ripe cassis, candied black raspberries, graphite, hint of ripe pipe tobacco and cedar. This still shows concentrated and smoky black small fruits, cocoa, medium (-) acidity, fully absorbed oak, fine tannins and a sweet and mineral tinged finish. Still 20 years young! (2325 views)
Tasted by rinnocenzi on 9/27/2020 & rated 92 points: Beautiful Napa cab tasting great , drink up (2406 views)
Tasted by mouton45 on 3/22/2020 & rated 93 points: Delighted to say this is still going strong. Went great last night with Cathy's short ribs braised for 9+ hours. Tannins from this once-brooding, mountain-grown cab have finally resolved, and the flavors of cassis and plum were apparent, as well as scents of cedar and mocha. This was pure pleasure to enjoy over dinner at home and the rest of the evening as we "sheltered in place." I don't see it evolving further, but IMO it could remain on the plateau of maturity for 5 more years. We'll see; have 3 more left out of 6. Looking forward to drinking my last bottle (of 6) of 2001 Pride Cab Franc next, all of which I bought direct from the winery when I was on its mailing list. (2372 views)
Tasted by brettay on 12/23/2019 & rated 91 points: Still plenty of life, but perhaps a bit better a few years ago in a more youthful state. Black cherry, cocoa powder, tobacco, fig, vanilla and sweet spices. Rich and juicy, but seems just a little tired on the back end. (2522 views)
Tasted by martin_e on 10/17/2019 & rated 89 points: It’s not old yet, but getting there, clearly in late stage, probably declined from its peak. A bit earthy, slightly unbalanced, and dull. Not my favorite bottle of Pride (2481 views)
Tasted by tk54 on 10/6/2019 & rated 92 points: Consumption window should be pushed out. This bottle had plenty left. (1845 views)
Tasted by Pinotfanbg on 9/15/2019 & rated 92 points: Big mountain Cabernet with blue - black berry fruit, graphite and grippy ripe tannins. Finishes with a bit of heat, so drink on the cool side. Still very primary after 18 years, this will have a long life. Not showing any signs of age in the color either. Not sure this will ever soften and improve adding complexity as it’s so big in fruit and tannin. Probably best with a big piece of grilled beef.

On the third night open this wine finally softened and filled in showing juicy blackberry fruit, a bit of mocha, softish ripe tannins and no sign of heat. Delicious. (1760 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 8/9/2019 & rated 94 points: Double decanted this at 4PM and started drinking it around 7PM at Ana & Josh's place. It showed a fair amount of sediment on the decant and doesn't need much air. Semi opaque ruby red with cherry red edges. Profuse aromas of; tobacco, cedar, expresso and berries. Love the BDX like nose! The mouth feel is sensual, resolved and yet still lifted. Rich, chocolate covered berries, cherries, raspberries, cedar, licorice, and spice on the palate. Big mountain fruit but not heavy or flabby. Delicious new world that is still in my wheelhouse and always makes Josh & Ana happy since they have fond memories of visiting Pride with us. These might go till 2020 and beyond but I doubt it improves from here on out. This likely hit its peak a few years ago. My last of 4 and quite good tonight. (1910 views)
Tasted by theharve on 6/6/2019 & rated 93 points: huge wine, classic big calif cab with great fruit but moderate tannin on initial coravin. uncorked 2 weeks later and had mellowed after 2 hr decant, little dirty on the palate like old style St. Estephe. Probably 3-5 yrs from pea and will last a long time. (1598 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 4/1/2019: Last of the old bottles
Similar to the last bottle and still quite good and no real fade
Very nice (1556 views)
Tasted by DesMarteau on 10/8/2018 & rated 92 points: wow...surprisingly young upon opening...out of balance....chocolate covered cherries, cough syrup, blueberries....no tannins or aged nuances...over 3 hours integrates more and improves . (2215 views)
Tasted by Brad Tsai on 8/13/2018 & rated 93 points: Excellent wine! Strong legs still got a lot time ahead of it. (2278 views)
Tasted by hanasowner on 8/4/2018 & rated 83 points: My last bottle and just as well…did not show great…more earthy and mature notes than red fruit…I suspect the Old World lovers in the group may have enjoyed this one more than me. (2242 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 6/23/2018 & rated 90 points: Double blind. Dark color. Notes of licorice, black fruit and herbs. Shows more ripeness as it sits, along with chocolate. Quite ripe on the palate- to the extent that it reminds me slightly of an Amarone- definitely trending towards prunes. Ripe fruit and chocolate carrying the finish. I believe we all guessed Napa sauvignon here. (2484 views)
Tasted by passion4wine on 4/7/2018 & rated 96 points: Wow! Here's an amazing example of where the general bottling of an estate wine just might eclipse the "reserve". Perfect storage from this bottle bought on release revealed a pristine cork which revealed an eruption of aromas. Seductive notes of bing cherry, raspberry, and dark fruit and not a touch of earthiness in this 16-year-old. On the palate perfectly resolved tannins, a touch of acidity but well-rounded dark berry fruit, a touch of butterscotch and caramel and a long lingering finish. I wish i had more of this wine—oh wait—cellartracker shows I do have one more bottle. Hmmm…tomorrow? (2364 views)
Tasted by Rsjo on 3/4/2018 & rated 95 points: Fantastic - smooth, complex and delicious. Good minerality, fruit (1912 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
