Tasted by John Nezlek on 3/15/2023 & rated 89 points: Note: I use the recommended scale, so 85 represents a very good wine.

A bit from memory, but not quite as enjoyable as the bottle I had in 2015.
As before, sweet, but not at all cloying. I have some 2005, and I will be drinking them straight away. (432 views)
Tasted by BBBH on 9/4/2020 & rated 87 points: We left this too long probably. I’ve extracted, raisiny taste (1493 views)
Tasted by CMN on 9/25/2017: Dinner w/ Doug & Sena & Alex & David...Sadly, Rob Was There Too (Doug & Sena's): Grapes and raisins with hints of chocolate. Unsurprisingly, paired very well with chocolate cake. Not showing any heat. Tastes fairly primary, but I don't think it will develop much, if at all. Still, good for what it is, drink now - 2022. (3653 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 10/25/2015 & rated 92 points: Drank from .375. Deep Bordeaux red/brick red. Medium sweet with balancing acidity. Drying tannins after 30 minutes that add to complexity. Wonderful after dinner wine. Added 1/18/16- this half kept in fridge almost 3 months and still drinkable, especially with chocolate. (4780 views)
Tasted by John Nezlek on 5/3/2015 & rated 91 points: Drank over 2 days. Excellent bottle. Sweet but not cloying (as some have mentioned). Let's keep Banyuls "under the radar". Tell your friends it is terrible. :-) (5059 views)
Tasted by LeechDogg on 4/24/2014 & rated 91 points: Grenache based, closed, peppery, nice tannins, not cloyingly sweet, rose petals. (5856 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 2/13/2014 & rated 92 points: Sweet, but not at all cloying. Slightly drying tannins emerge after 30 minutes for added complexity. Great with chocolate. Drink now and over next few years. Update after two weeks in fridge, has improved. Now integrated and balanced on palate with mocha, sweet cherry and dark plums. (5088 views)
Tasted by MJHDC on 10/27/2012: There was a slight bit of seepage on the top of the cork, and when I first opened, this was giving up nothing and I thought it was gone. But I waited. And waited. And after several tastes and quite a few days, this finally blossomed into a classic Banyuls, with rich cherry chocolate sweet fruit, silky mouthfeel. A great treat to savor while Hurricane Sandy was roaring through late at night. (4615 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 5/5/2012: does not get better than a really good banyuls and chocolate...this was a hit everyone. (3307 views)
Tasted by Heart Plumber on 11/5/2011 & rated 96 points: Nice coco aroma and taste, concentrated berry, not too heavy for a dessert wine (2907 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 9/25/2010 & rated 92 points: From .375. Popped and poured, but better after 60 mins.in bottle. A definite step up in complexity and finesse from regular rimage bottling. Deep and elegant, with plum, dark fruits and smooth tannins. Very good plus. No noticeable decline finishing last of bottle after 3 days in fridge. (2996 views)
Tasted by xwine on 3/21/2010: Consistent with the last bottle -- nice. (3061 views)
Tasted by xwine on 3/19/2010: Bit of a dusty quality, but really quite a nice Banyuls. Figs, balanced, not at all cloying. (2482 views)
Tasted by doctoroflaws on 9/26/2009: Would be awesome with a chocolate dessert. (2955 views)
Tasted by xwine on 6/5/2009: Quite nice. End of a long evening, but seemed consistent with previous bottles. (2819 views)
Tasted by xwine on 3/5/2009: Didn't take any notes, and this is written 5 days later. A very nice Banyuls, though not one to hold for long. Nicely balanced sweetness, not at all cloying. Some prunes and spice bread, if I recall correctly. (2996 views)
Tasted by ews3 on 12/19/2008 & rated 89 points: really viscous -- coats the tongue. significant tannin. chocolate, cherries, and other red fruit. medium (-) finish was a little disappointing. the alcohol was well integrated on this (2917 views)
Tasted by zovizule on 12/17/2008: Hit of the evening. Very much dark chocolate and blackberry jam. (2931 views)
Tasted by aktormedic on 11/28/2008: Not a typical Banyuls. Not particularly sweet, it was slightly tannic and closed.. Maybe it needed more or less time, but it seemed a little out of balance. (2925 views)
Tasted by Magnolian on 11/28/2008 & rated 91 points: Translucent but dark purple center; slightly pinkish at the rim. Nose is plums and stewed cherries. Concentrated grape preserves, chocolate, and a little black licorice on the palate; some noticeable alcohol (17.5%) on the finish, but also mocha and concentrated black fruits.

This was my first Bayuls, so I'm not sure if this is typical, but I enjoyed it. Lack the body and complexity of a vintage port; more like a LBV in body, but not tannic. A very good deal at this price point. (2892 views)
Tasted by sadofsky on 8/23/2008: This is the first Banyuls I've tried. Not as big as a typical port would be. One could imagine it was fortified using plum brandy! (3007 views)
Tasted by BBBH on 8/23/2008 & rated 90 points: Somehow we'd been thinking this would be a white given it was a dessert wine. Didn't have a lot to compare it to as not used to dessert wine reds; as another review said it tasted similar to a light/subtle port. I think I would have preferred the typical Sauternes-type that we were expecting. However at $13.99 for 375ml it seemed good value and a fun alternative to round off dessert for the 5 of us (3099 views)
Tasted by cse on 7/27/2008 & rated 93 points: involving nose of spiced candied cherries, elegant plummy (but not overrripe) fruit and rich tannins on the palate, also a note of iron--resembles a port with some bottle age (though it is young). huge and lasting finish. (3140 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 7/25/2008 & rated 93 points: 2nd Growth Bordeaux Blindtasting Dinner (Keith's House in San Francisco): Black fruit, smoke and ripe plum nose; yummy, smoky, black fruit, fig and blue fruit palate; medium-plus finish (2755 views)
Tasted by jwwinec on 6/15/2008: Nothing profound, but quite enjoyable - smooth and velvety, with a nice warming quality. Similar (in a good way) to some better late-harvest Zins I've had. (3124 views)

(LA COUME Parce) Dr. Parce #2 Dear Friends, Ok, let’s try this again. So many of you were shut out of the 375ml's of this wine at the ”I’ve lost my mind price” that I went back and asked them for 750’s but I wasn’t sure if you would be willing to pay a regular discount price for a 750ml (after the very low price for a 375ml)... I’m going to say this in advance - this is a very small parcel (see paragraph above, the 750’s of this wine are a lot harder to find than something like 2001 Yquem - that is not hyperbole) - you may as well throw your hat in the ring as I can’t imagine a more thought provoking and individual bottle of dessert wine for a party at a price that is about as low as can be (a 750ml is almost like getting a magnum of dessert wine): PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH NIKI on the allocations - she will do her best 2004 Domaine du Mas Blanc (Dr. Parce) Banyuls Rimage “La Coume” (750ml) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA SOFR6660

(Dr. Parce (Mas Blanc) La COUME) Holiday Special #6 Dear Friends, No, this is not a joke - I’m just in a really giving mood this afternoon and feel like passing the good cheer around. Maybe it’s one of our best deals ever but I’m not going to quantify that as it gets old saying that over and over - it’s just an insane price on a perfectly stored parcel of dessert wine. As far as Banyuls is concerned, this is like getting a split of the best vintage Port or something like Rieussec for a bargain price. There’s a lot to be thankful for at this time of year (and all year for that matter) and there’s no better way than to give back to our customer base so here you go - one of the most unusual dessert wines you will ever taste for 80% off. This is not a cast off; this is the current release. This offer is only available to those currently on the email list (we cannot honor orders from new customers on this item): This parcel has perfect provenance. EXTREMELY LIMITED at this price Happy Holidays! Have a great weekend... 2004 Domaine du Mas Blanc (Dr. Parce) Banyuls Rimage “La Coume” (375ml) PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH NIKI ON THIS - she will do her best with allocations and she is already the most over-worked person in the wine trade (besides Pat, Tim, Sara, Melisa and everyone else of course)! As a matter of fact, I’m soliciting holiday gifts on her behalf from everyone - there’s no one that deserves it more. Please send her a special “thank you” for her incredible effort this year, even just a short email means a lot (you try juggling thousands of different personalities every day and 99.9% of the time coming out with glowing accolades from all parties - she is a true talent so let her know how much you appreciate her being there for you everyday. I know we couldn’t do this without her or without everyone else that churns the cogwheels at our little garage... Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA SOFR3399

Banyuls

Banyuls-dels-Aspres is a French commune , located in the department of Pyrenees-Orientales and the region Languedoc-Roussillon . Its inhabitants are called Banyulencs. It lies near the Mediterranean Ocean and just a few miles from the Catalonian region of Spain. Banyuls wines are sweet, fortified vins doux naturels. They range in hue from golden-green to amber to deep red. They are predominately made from Grenache Noir, along with other Grenache grapes and a very little Muscat. In taste, they are similar to a Rasteau from the southern Rhone (also Grenache Noir) and a ruby Port.
