Tasted by Mrbuzz on 4/9/2012 & rated 94 points: Probably my favorite domestic SB made...just love the exotic tropical fruit, gorgeous florals, and smoky flint in these. The Reserve of this is killer..but the I Block takes it to a whole different level. From 60+ yr old vines from To Kalon, 100% Sauvignon Blanc......the wine is creamy and pure with tropical fruit, white peach...very subtle and balanced with an exotic smokiness, and ginger honey spice. Such pretty honeysuckle and white flower florals....refreshed with crisp citrus acidity and stones. A super wine to sip on...and one that has no problem aging for years and years. (3695 views)
Tasted by mukden on 1/25/2012 & rated 92 points: YES. Limited release from a specific parcel of vines in Mondavi Napa. Very strong taste, I was really quite impressed; had as bring-your-own to Morimoto; went beautifully with fish and tempura. One of the best meals we had in US this summer. (3560 views)
Tasted by Mike Kopanski on 6/17/2011 & rated 88 points: I have been drinking Robert Mondavi Fume Blanc since I discovered the wonders of wine, and this could be the best ever. This special bottling is definitely a step up. Compared to this one, most of the other Fume's seem a little tired and oxidized. This one is crisp and elegant, with a creamy complexity. There is lemon and grapefruit, with some honey. The viscosity is noticeably heavier than a Sauvignon Blanc, but still has enough acid to keep things interesting. Intense and vibrant long finish that is so unique for this grape. (3531 views)

Varietal Character

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
