Tasted by Bejakeyser on 3/4/2024: Spoiled, too old, poured out (91 views)
Tasted by riskun on 5/27/2023 & rated 94 points: Very nice, light brick. Very tasty and well integrated. Smooth finish with a lot of secondary flavors coming on. (367 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 3/7/2023 & rated 92 points: Last of a 3 bottle pack.
And this one is the best.
Lovely balance in rusticity and suave sappy sweetness. (360 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 10/24/2022 & rated 91 points: Better than previous bottle.
Nice with a steak and truffled risotto.
liked the food better than the wine, though. (419 views)
Tasted by riskun on 10/24/2020 & rated 92 points: Floral wooden, earthy nose - all there and very nice. Entry is lots of liquorice and dark fruit, cassis, blackberry. Complex ending with a good deal of spice an leather. This seems an easy drinker at first but builds in complexity in the glass. Well done. Still with years left. Moved back to 2028. (1102 views)
Tasted by PBANGELO on 9/20/2020 & rated 87 points: Deep ruby with no bricking. Twenty minutes in, rustic, some alcohol. Second day-nothing new. Elegant and silky with no fruit to speak of. Only got to first base. (1009 views)
Tasted by Snoski62 on 5/30/2020 & rated 91 points: Decanted about two hours before drinking. Not as much brick as most Brunello - more ruby in color. Distinct earth tones on the nose which lightened up with some time to reveal some mint and floral notes. Very well integrated bright red fruit with some tobacco and spice on the back end. Smooth finish with well integrated tannins. Drinking well now. (1017 views)
Tasted by riskun on 4/19/2020 & rated 94 points: Clear ruby crystal color with an orange touch. Nose is quite attractive on opening, cherry skin, candied fruit with just a touch of stone. Entry is fairly light but tasty. Comes on quite fruity late mouth but not in a primary sweetness way, more cherry skins with good complexity. Nice energy to the finish with a good and well balanced tannic backbone in an herbal backdrop. This is quite nice. Elegant and refined. Very well done. (1038 views)
Tasted by kend707 on 8/19/2018 & rated 92 points: The need to decant has never been more necessary. Upon opening, hard to give this wine an 85 rating, the taste of tar being overwhelming. After a four hour decant the tannins meld into the fruit well and the presence of tar diminishes considerable. (1440 views)
Tasted by Pour Boy on 12/29/2017 & rated 92 points: Loved this wine tonight, and my last bottle of this. Well worth the wait-time. (1178 views)
Tasted by anderegg on 12/20/2017 & rated 90 points: PnP and let sit in the glass for about 5 minutes. Color is purple-red with a some fade at the edge. Aromas of cherry, eucalyptus, soil, a bit of barnyard, some savory herbs, a bit of wet asphalt. Flavors of fruit, savory herbs, a bit of heat, medium acid and medium, well-integrated tannin. Moderate legs and some lingering sweetness give the impression of a higher alcohol wine. (1148 views)
Tasted by Pour Boy on 12/17/2017 & rated 91 points: This is in its drinking window. Classic Brunello profile with lots of cherry. And at 11 years, it's smooth and silky. Don't hold it too much longer. (1103 views)
Tasted by anderegg on 4/19/2017: Everyone liked with and after dinner of red sauce over pasta and a fresh garden salad. (1597 views)
Tasted by guido23 on 1/15/2017 & rated 92 points: Wow, this really overperformed! Classic Brunello: cherry, graphite, and a decent finish. Really more than I expected for the price! (1563 views)
Tasted by Vertigo on 8/6/2016 & rated 85 points: Rather dark and unfortunately rather one dimensional with sour cherry and some heat at the end. (1642 views)
Tasted by rcg62 on 5/14/2016 & rated 94 points: Great color, looks very young. Nose has smoke and subtle currant and plum. Really tasty stuff. Jam and raspberry. Very tasty stuff. Drinking great. (1826 views)
Tasted by auhead on 11/30/2014 & rated 88 points: Black currant, earth, pepper and oak greet the nose. It is a little thin mid-palate, with medium body and noticeable alcohol. Enjoyable but a little too much heat on the finish. (3010 views)
Tasted by DDicaprio on 6/13/2014 & rated 91 points: In need of more age, but very drinkable with smooth tannins. (3121 views)
Tasted by Tim and Bonnie on 10/10/2013 & rated 89 points: A very nice wine. Not as much of the deep mocha we appreciate in $60ish Brunellos, but very enjoyable nonetheless. (3915 views)
 Tasted by mr21cbs on 9/9/2012 & rated 92 points: Excellent. (4973 views)
Tasted by swapdoc on 4/30/2012: Bright, forward, juicy, most nebbiolo-like wine of many Brunellos I've tried so far. Delicate nose, hints of flowers; on the palate showing almost none of porcini or stewed plum flavors, with just a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. Emphasizing sour juicy tones with hints of sandalwood. Primary but enjoyable now. (4859 views)
Tasted by WineTrooper on 3/18/2012 & rated 94 points: Previous note nailed it. A lovely wine which is very drinkable now and will improve. (4106 views)
Tasted by riskun on 1/8/2012 & rated 92 points: Nice rose red with orange rim. Nose closed on opening but with time a tart cherry and strawberry with earthy wood. Very strong mid weight mouth with an exceptionally long finish of tart fruit, pepper, and balsamic. A bit of austere wood also, but no vanilla. This is high acidity and fairly big. Very nice Sangiovese example. Use like a typical chianti, but I find this more refined. (3788 views)
Tasted by J2K on 7/18/2011 & rated 91 points: Band-aid nose, lush fruit and on the palate with good acidity. more time witll be great for this wine. Would like to see the price alittle lower though. (3293 views)
Tasted by ecola on 7/17/2011 & rated 93 points: Great aromas of cow pasture and a little sour cherry. A huge wine on the palate with loads of dark cherry and earthiness. Long gripping finish. (2500 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
