Tasted by t0pshelf on 4/29/2024: My last bottle of this wine and this one is still getting better. Wish I had more! To think I was not impressed by the first tasting I had in 2013.... now drinking well above its $40 price point. (59 views)
Tasted by PIntag on 3/2/2024 & rated 92 points: 14.7% abv.
Seems to be fully resolved and drinking seamlessly. Very Bordeaux-like flavor profile - one might guess this blind as Bordeaux, but I think the slightly elevated alcohol gives this away as new world. All in all, this is drinking very well and is very pleasing and enjoyable. Not the most complex, but there's enough going on here to keep interest throughout the evening. (97 views)
Tasted by Snag One on 4/15/2023 & rated 94 points: Wow, this has evolved very well over time. Soft but firm tannin structure and mellowed acidity. Nose of black cherries, cassis, ripe figs and pencil shavings. Wonderful mouthfeel with a long finish and layers of blueberries, dried figs, cassis, toast and mint. Wonderful wine that rewarded patience. (342 views)
Tasted by mmatejka90 on 10/11/2020 & rated 84 points: Nice smooth merlot drinkable right out of the bottle. (1226 views)
Tasted by Labrador on 10/9/2020 & rated 87 points: No formal notes, but this is a wine that always pleases. (1141 views)
Tasted by mk42 on 8/28/2020 & rated 90 points: Lovely mature cab. A bit less fruit than a few years ago, with softer tannins. (1145 views)
Tasted by JuliannaDHS on 2/3/2019: Still very big and very primary. I'd like to wait until opening another bottle. (1725 views)
Tasted by cooker315 on 1/7/2019 & rated 91 points: drinking remarkably well for being past prime (1657 views)
Tasted by Love Good Wine on 4/7/2018 & rated 92 points: PnP. Had very low expectation yet found it to be delightful. Color still good though the wine is probably reaching its peak.
Paired with classic steak and baked potato... (1772 views)
Tasted by Reblin on 12/24/2017 & rated 92 points: Just keeps getting better. Smooth, round fruit. (1757 views)
Tasted by Braunsteins1 on 11/8/2017 & rated 92 points: We still really liked this. (1906 views)
Tasted by Jerry 3 on 3/4/2017 & rated 92 points: opened and drank immediately and experienced a very smooth finish

great with a rich Snapper dinner and also with a bone in port chop.

we have 2 bottles left and will hold a few months longer for another fish & meat dinner. (2138 views)
Tasted by Ceo on 2/10/2017 & rated 92 points: Still going strong (2011 views)
Tasted by Reblin on 6/8/2016 & rated 90 points: Continues to drink very well. Red fruit, moderate tannins, medium finish. (2409 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 1/22/2016 & rated 87 points: Pop and pour; ripe, bright red fruit on the nose, hint of oak (oak chips?). There's a smooth/silky feel to the wine as it hits the palate, but its fairly one-dimensional...lacking depth and complexity. Nice enough and easy to sip, but a simplistic wine I don't see improving.. (2675 views)
Tasted by Labrador on 1/8/2016 & rated 88 points: Enjoyed this fine with friends over dinner. This wine is in a good spot right now - red fruit, nicely balanced, smooth and a good finish. I look forward to enjoying this wine again. (2427 views)
Tasted by Surfdoc on 12/21/2015 & rated 91 points: Solid structure with rounded dark berry flavor, medium fine-grained tannins and just the right amount of smooth oak on the finish. (2116 views)
Tasted by andyw on 6/25/2015 & rated 92 points: Silky. Good balance between fruity and earthy. (2962 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 6/1/2015 & rated 91 points: Still lighter than it's compatriots, but what an offering. (2223 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 4/30/2015 & rated 90 points: Medium bodied, dark crimson, dark fruit forward wine. Lot's going on, but on separate tracks. Had wished for a little more balance and integration by now. Will try another bottle soon. (2000 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 2/27/2015 & rated 89 points: Single glass via coravin. Dark coloring w nice legs; minerals/stone and a slightly sour red fruit nose. Velvet-y mouthfeel with red fruit that has a green/underripe aftertaste and a continuation of the mineralogy from the nose and others' notes. Fine sediment. (2311 views)
Tasted by Hemingway on 2/22/2015 & rated 93 points: Spectacular wine. Drank at MB Post in Manhattan Beach. Vibrant aroma, slightly floral but mostly red fruit. Silky smooth tannins, round soft mouth feel. Ripe dark fruit, some fig. Long elegant finish. Enjoyed this wine a lot. (2058 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 11/19/2014 & rated 92 points: This is a 1.5-2 day superstar. Liked it at PnP, loved it over time. Black fruit nuances buttressed by flinty minerals. Balance is apparent even after a few hours, but sings later on. Wish I had a few more bottles in cellar. (2301 views)
Tasted by Reblin on 10/10/2014 & rated 91 points: A big, fruit-forward wine. (2314 views)
Tasted by JDV.DDSPHD on 6/10/2014 & rated 90 points: Solid daily drinker. Uncompromising in its fruit forwardness. Straight up big napa cab. Lacking done concentration & depth but just good. There's a reason why pRker gives this 90+. (3057 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
