Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 9/6/2012 & rated 91 points: Bonhams Pre-Auction Tasting (Bonhams & Butterfields, San Francisco, California): Bricked medium dark red violet color; hedonistic, dried berry, ripe plum, chocolate, molasses nose; molasses, dried berry, chocolate palate; fading and time to drink up; medium-plus finish 91+ points (1329 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 7/14/2012 & rated 82 points: tasted blind in a flight of 1994 california cabs
nose - volatile acidity, chocolate syrup
mouth - sweet, overripe, overbearing, i guessed it to be a zin. i bet it would have drunk better a decade prior.
Also being sandwiched by some elegant cabs didnt help it out either. (3213 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 3/13/2012 & rated 94 points: Licoirce, spicy cherries, kirsch, jam and earth scents led to a big, dense, powerful wine filled with ripe and over ripe, jammy black and red berries. Served double blind, I was shocked to discover it was Zinfandel. From vines planted back in 1887 on a steep hillside, this was an interesting wine to taste. (3505 views)
Tasted by BeavisCC on 3/5/2010 & rated 92 points: A good showing for what was undeniably a great wine in its youth. Good fruit still present, and certainly doesn't seem 16 years old. Mistaken for CA cab by some. A bit of heat starting to show on the finish. An interesting data point, but time to drink up any remaining bottles. (3572 views)
Tasted by G SQUARED on 12/23/2008 & rated 96 points: Xmas party at Johnson's. Wow! My last bottle of this and what a home run. Hit of the night. So seamless. Almost Quintarelli Amarone like. Luscious in the mouth with that usual raisiny note on the nose. Long finish and a joy to experience. (4041 views)
Tasted by dbg on 12/5/1999: intense, rich, cotton candy, kept changing, great fruit, awesome (3699 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 5/7/1997 & rated 91 points: Blockbuster wine. very concentrated, but very alcoholic, but the alcohol was almost hidden. Lots of rustic black fruits, but it did not mellow with breathing... very stuborn. (1955 views)

All of the Martinelli Estate vineyards are farmed by Lee Martinelli, Sr., and sons Lee, Jr., and George Martinelli. USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
