Tasted non blind.
Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. nose of leather, cigar box, plums and currants. Flavors of currants, plums and cherries. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold. (837 views) | | Tasted by rjoyer on 7/24/2020: Holy schnikes....this may be the best rendition of Sleepy Hollow syrah I've had to date. Sensual and suave on the palate that delivers a mouthful of meat, earth, dark berries, and a soy/umami undertone. This bottle kept building and building like a freight train rolling down the track with the last glass being the best glass after 4+ hours open. Joe's '08 are on-point and, in my opinion, the best vintage across the board for Arcadian since the 2005's. Damn. (1332 views) | | Tasted by jreis on 5/23/2019: Really a ringer for a nice hermitage. A hint of Brett, smoky bacon, white pepper and dark brambly fruit on the nose. Still pretty tight and a touch tannic on the palate, but nice crunchy fruit and acidity. Lovely wine that punches way above its price point! However; once you get past it (it dissipates within 30 mins), the underlying is northern Rhone like - savory, meaty with mild fruit in the background. (2435 views) | | Tasted by galewskj on 11/18/2017 & rated 91 points: There was a lot of barnyard funk here that was fun and in my wheelhouse, but a bit too much. It took a long time to blow off. This has a similar profile to Northern Rhone, except slightly more ripe red fruit. This is a good wine to serve people who feel that Aussie and American syrah is too big. It is not a small wine, it carries itself well. (2255 views) | | Tasted by amateurwino on 9/17/2017 & rated 92 points: Nice tasty syrah- CA fruit but not over the top, herbs and underbrush noted; balanced and accessible. (1838 views) | | Tasted by pjhr on 6/1/2017 & rated 92 points: As delicious as the last bottle. (1545 views) | | Tasted by pjhr on 5/25/2017 & rated 92 points: Wonderful dark berry and currant on the nose and palate with white pepper notes and tasty acidity on the moderate finish. (1389 views) | | Tasted by Garb on 4/1/2017 & rated 91 points: Deep color. Smoke, black cherry, cola. Balanced pallet, with medium acidity displaying strong flavors of red currants, cherries with an almost slight creaminess. Very pleasing now but I expect 10+ years of life left easily. (998 views) |
| Arcadian Producer website
Inspired by the great traditions of Burgundian winemaking, Joseph Davis has been making Arcadian Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah in California's Central Coast region since 1996. Using French artisan methods and hands-on vineyard management, Joe's Arcadian label consistently receives high marks from the world's most respected wine writers. Following his gut instinct allows him the complete realization of his dream and his mission remains to make wines that fully express the uniqueness of the vineyard and the region while capturing the voluptuous flavor of the grape and the kiss of cool California breezes and warm sunshine. Traditionally, Joe harvests fruit with much more modest sugar levels and much higher natural acidity than many of his fellow growers. The belief that Arcadian wines will continue to evolve in the bottle for years to come and that this continued evolution will ultimately produce a much more interesting wine is what drives Arcadian's--and Joe's---philosophy of winegrowing.

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. Sleepy Hollow Vineyard About Vineyard from TalbottUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
