Tasted by blue6314 on 4/19/2024 & rated 90 points: Drink now. Color is good. Tannins have smoothed out. Nice berry fruit. Tertiary flavors are present. (69 views)
Tasted by wine4ever on 1/15/2023: From our cellar. Decanted. Extremely dark purple-burgundy in color. Aromas of plum and violets. Full bodied, super dense and concentrated flavors of dark cherry, blackberries, plums, earthy spices, tobacco, vanilla, oak. Tannins refined. Good acidity. Nice structure and balance. 14% alcohol. Excellent now but still seems to have plenty of life left. (622 views)
Tasted by Eurocave on 1/10/2022 & rated 94 points: Full and rich garnet colour w amazing hints of deep berry, leathery tobacco, almond, mushroom, black currant (cassis), sandalwood and nutmeg. A lovely blend of rich tannins, perfect balance of sweet rich fruits meet sophisticated flavours. Smoked perfectly for a higher standard of bold red tastes. Medium legs and long finish. Perfect timing w steak and sweet potato (1167 views)
Tasted by VinoGeeko on 1/10/2021 & rated 89 points: Nice, a bit thin. But that judgement is partly due to it's company. I had this, and a 2008 Colgin Syrah, with an Italian dinner of Chicken/Tomato/Pasta. The Colgin was superb (at $200) so the supertuscan (at $40) didnt really have a shot. In any case, the tuscan was quaffable.

TLDR: drinkable, not too memorable. (1706 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 7/25/2020 & rated 90 points: Very nice super tuscan. I am beginning to realize that with few exceptions, it is the super tuscan italian reds that I like. (2014 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 7/2/2020 & rated 89 points: Better than my last bottle. Drinkable, but certainly not memorable. Certainly not worth $40. (1940 views)
Tasted by preid on 6/6/2020 & rated 93 points: Deep dark red color. Bordeauxian blend. Smell of dark berries, blackberry, cherry, licorice, almond and vanilla. Balanced and long finish. Love this wine. (83 views)
Tasted by elevwine on 6/2/2020 & rated 93 points: Just starting to blossom, would still benefit from another 5 years. (1621 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 4/23/2020 & rated 89 points: Good, not great wine. Not worth the $40, but at least it is drinkable. (1525 views)
Tasted by EricLi on 3/13/2020 & rated 90 points: Very different experience than a few months ago. Garnet color and quote young. I like the acidity. Drink much more smoothly after 8 hours slow ox. (935 views)
Tasted by EricLi on 11/8/2019 & rated 91 points: A serious wine. Medium+ in weight. Quite smooth. Quite a bit of sediment. At its peak. Time to drink. (996 views)
Tasted by jmw17 on 6/12/2019: Four square, dense, and a bit indistinct but also structured and successful. Charcoal ash, subdued fruit and no shortage of tannins. Mostly integrated and improving. (1443 views)
Tasted by Primordialsoup on 2/21/2019 & rated 93 points: This really hit the spot tonight. Paired with pasta with red sauce. Worked well alone and with sauce. Lush but not over-plush. Nice blackberry weave throughout. Clean with grippy tannins into finish. Satisfying. Wish I had more. (1637 views)
Tasted by quaffnov on 2/3/2019 & rated 92 points: See previous note, this clearly improved during the last several months since I drank the other bottle I had in my cellar. Further developed, with much more integration of the tannic structure and a better expression of its dominant characteristics . (1557 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 12/12/2018 & rated 91 points: This was great. Decanted for an hour. Nice balance. For me it has just entered its drinking window. No rush to drink. (1668 views)
Tasted by EricLi on 6/5/2018 & rated 90 points: Still young. Fruit dominates. Could use a few more years to soften the tannins. Not much nose to speak with to start, but it shows how it can be when it matures, deep and fragrant. Drink with decant. (1943 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 4/29/2018 & rated 90 points: Better than a lot of the 2010 Italians I have had. This is getting really ready to drink. I did a 2 hour decant. Dark garnet, not much nose (that could just be my aging sniffer), good deep fruit flavors and the tannins are softening but still there. Give it a year or two more. (1840 views)
Tasted by rojoloco on 3/17/2018 & rated 91 points: Smooth tannins. Enough backbone to carry it. Have one more will try in a few months. Nothing terribly distinctive but way better that touted chiantis. (1659 views)
Tasted by brigcampbell on 9/18/2017: Like others, I really liked the wine. Attractive dark fruit profile, excellent tannin and acid balance. (2027 views)
Tasted by quaffnov on 3/18/2017 & rated 90 points: Three hour decant, which was needed, the nose is dark fruit, cab led, with some loamy elements as well. The palate is well balanced, with smooth tannins and enough acidity to frame the cab and merlot flavors. A touch of graphite and tobacco add some complexity. This will likely improve with more cellar time, I have a second bottle I will leave alone for a year or two and then revisit. (2442 views)
Tasted by MattB72 on 8/19/2016 & rated 92 points: Excellent. Could use a few more but with a long decant this is a well balanced Bordeaux blend from Tuscany. (3018 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 5/25/2016 & rated 90 points: Needs a 2 hour decant. After that it is really good. Nice ripe fruit. I'll wait a year or 2 before I open another one. (3188 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 3/12/2016 & rated 89 points: I really liked this. It needs at least a 2 hour decant to open up. I would hold off 2 years or so to let it develop and come into its own. Great nose and middle. Falls off at the end. (3367 views)
Tasted by Decanthor on 3/9/2016 & rated 90 points: Same as my May 2015 notes. And still needs at least 30 minutes of air to show its goods. As others have stated, you can drink now but it is probably better to hold for a bit. Pair with pork or lamb with a nice dry rub. (3009 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 1/7/2016 & rated 92 points: This deep ruby wine (a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, 15% Cabernet Franc) is intense and layered. Packed with dark bramble fruits, black cherries, graphite, violets and loamy earth, it is a full-bodied red with vibrant acidity, harmonious alcohol (14%) and plentiful silky tannins. Impressively dense in the middle and long on the finish, this is a Super Tuscan worthy of a search. Drink now-2025. (3069 views)

SuperTuscan Blend

SuperTuscan Blend refers to wines which feature a significant Sangiovese component combined with grapes not traditionally associated with Italy like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. This separates it from "Sangiovese blend" which is used for wines which are predominantly Sangiovese and combined with traditional Italian varieties. There is often confusion as many wines most famous associated with the term "Super Tuscan" like Sassicaia, Masseto and Ornellaia have no Sangiovese and are properly linked to 'Red Bordeaux Blend.'

In fact, Super Tuscan was a term coined to refer specifically to wines such as Sassicaia and Tignanello. These were wines that "fell out" of the official DOCG classification of Italian wines because they either contained grapes not permitted (international varietals such as cabernet sauvignon or merlot,) were aged differently (I.e. in barrique) or were 100% sangiovese - which was not permitted at the time for Chianti (E.g. Fontodi Flaccianello.) Forced to be classified as simply "Vina di Tavola" these wines nontheless quickly found favour in international markets and comanded prices above the highest quality DOCG Chianti Classico & Brunello di Montalcino wines at the time. The wine industry and press began to refer to these wines as SuperTuscans because of their popularity and quality, but also because of the prices they commanded. Subsequently, the Italian authorities, under the Goria Law 1992, redrew the classifications, and included the category IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) to classify the SuperTuscans.
