Tasted by Condrieu82 on 3/28/2024 & rated 95 points: Super expressive in the nose, with cherries, dried flowers, oak. Wow. Nice acidity to balance the tannins, some medicinal notes, belle pepper, tons of black cherries, tomato vine, coffee beans; ending our long with aromatic wood.
Wow such a wine! Great spot now, secondary notes are definitely emerging but it’s still young and vibrant. Drink now or hold - no rush here. We had it with homemade ragout and penne - was perfect! (815 views)
Tasted by Skotto on 12/25/2023 & rated 95 points: 2nd bottle of case. Decanted 2.5hrs snd followed another 3. Exceptional cab with Tuscan acidity and earth. Still very young fruit with tannins mellowing and secondary flavours just beginning to develop. No rush on these - will benefit at least another 5 years, likely 10. (1423 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 12/23/2023 & rated 93 points: Decanted and drank over 2 hours w pizza. Surprisingly light, bright and elegant in style. Delicious, but not what I was expecting based on the pro reviews. (1441 views)
Tasted by markcic on 12/14/2023 & rated 93 points: When you have 50 people at a holiday party it is definitely and excuse to open a 3.0. This is a very nice wine which was opened 5 hours prior to the start of the party. The nose is all fruit going to a palate of berries, plums, cherries, pipe tobacco and coffee. A moderate to long finish which was very smooth. (1685 views)
Tasted by Portland Seth on 11/23/2023 & rated 94 points: Impressively mineral and dark fruited out of the bottle smelling of castle basement and blueberry. With air also dried strawberry, dust, oak spice and cedar. Both powerful and elegant. (1656 views)
Tasted by markcic on 11/17/2023 & rated 93 points: Very enjoyable wine. The nose is fruit going to a palate of berries, plums, cherries, pipe tobacco and coffee. A moderate to long finish which was very smooth. (1618 views)
Tasted by rpfaffjr on 8/6/2023 & rated 93 points: Not corked like last one! Really good wine. Will save the remaining 2 for a few more years and buy more as opportunities come up. (2178 views)
Tasted by paujokal on 8/2/2023 & rated 93 points: At a great spot with many years still to go. (2028 views)
Tasted by Mark van Delft on 6/29/2023 & rated 92 points: Saffredi is a great Super Tuscan, a blend of 60 % CS, 30 % CS and 10 % PV: cherry, plum, prune, graphite, blackberry, tobacco, leather, medium plus body and good long finish. (2252 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 3/9/2023 & rated 85 points: Opened last night. I just don't understand it. This bottle is yet another I have had that completely underwhelms and disappoints. Cork was in good shape, the wine was a strong ruby red, but it shows very little of anything on the nose; almost no fruit at all. Palate wasn't any better. Just flat all the way around. Is it possible this is just closed up tight at ten years of age? Ouch. I am rating this since there is no obvious defect. 5-10-14-6: 85/100. (2805 views)
Tasted by WilD on 12/20/2022 & rated 92 points: Decanted for more than 4 hrs and still harsh. Fine nose but on the palate it is muted and a little dry on the finish. (2802 views)
Tasted by rpfaffjr on 12/17/2022 flawed bottle: Corked. Bummer. (2208 views)
Tasted by Psdycp on 11/11/2022 & rated 92 points: Balanced and complex bouquet of cassis, toasted black licorice and clove, smoked herbs, leather and earthy gravel. The palate is powerful, deep and long with fresh acidity, spices and ripe black fruits coming through in a full-bodied structure. Some bite at the edges. Still young and evolving. Finish is clean and lingering with grilled sausages and blackcurrants. A touch of new world Cabernet charm. Decant for an hour before drinking. Letting this wine continue to age will smoothen the texture and result in greater harmony. 92-93 pts. (2760 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 9/23/2022 & rated 94 points: Opened last night, and finished today. This is a beauty. Dark ruby, no lightening at the rim. Viscous. A real beauty of a nose, with a veritable smorgassboard of nuanced aromas. Iron, game, saddle leather, you name it. Drinks the same way, so pretty, elegant and sexy, but plenty of power and richness. Very well made, probably approaching peak, but many years ahead of it. 5-13-17-9: 94/100. (3083 views)
Tasted by Waël on 8/25/2022 & rated 95 points: Beautiful wine, and right in its drinking window. Dark dark ruby red, and viscous in the glass. The nose is extra-special. Aromas I have not smelled before in a red- cotton candy, caramelized apple, dark chocolate, and a hint of cassis. The palate on point. Fresh, soft tannins, lingering just the right amount of time. Very subtle, delicate, and delicious. I’ll drink my last bottle in 2023. (2655 views)
Tasted by Harrie on 8/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Nicely in its drinking window (2643 views)
Tasted by Goodjob! on 6/1/2022 & rated 93 points: J’adore ce Bordeaux blend. Fruit, finesse et complexité sont au rendez-vous. Sera encore meilleur dans quelques années. 93+ (2523 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 4/22/2022 & rated 94 points: Popped and poured, this is clearly rounding into shape. Dark, dark red, viscous, with an almost but not quite brownish rim. Nose becoming richly fragrant, with flowery red fruit. Tannin resolving nicely, though still in evidence, this is glassy and glossy, nicely ripe but with good balance and lots of red fruit. Probably just entering its drinking window, this should provide great pleasure for many years to come. Excellent. 5-13-17-9: 94/100. (3111 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 11/21/2021 & rated 93 points: Double-decanted. Leather, dark cherry, menthol and other herbal elements. Pretty intense with a strong presence, but couldn’t really impress with elegance and precision. Also a bit too much acidity in the mix on the palate. (3818 views)
Tasted by WineGuyX on 11/14/2021 & rated 93 points: Medium-dark ruby. This is still a baby and full of grapey primary flavors. Blue and black fruits on the nose as well as some herbal shadings and plenty of creosote and new charred oak. The palate echoes the nose. This has seamless but very present tannin. This really needs several more years to lose it's primary quality and gain some complexity. Drink 2024-2028+ 93?? df 8.9 (3428 views)
Tasted by Es7e2003 on 11/1/2021 & rated 92 points: Deep ruby in glass. Violets, blackberry, minerality and cigar box. Medium plus acidity and tannins. Wonderful balance. Nice long finish. (3521 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 10/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Lost a good amount of the wood treatment early on in its life leaving behind a very nice fruity texture. Still some tannins to digest but beginning to become approachable with a good decant. (4167 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 8/22/2021 & rated 95 points: Subsequent notes on this wine from over three years ago. Deep, dark purple-garnet, opaque in color with no signs of aging. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, black currants & blackberries with overtones of dusty/earthy & floral notes of roses & violets, mint, spices, cocoa, minerals & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied, with very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush & dense, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with dark cocoa, spices, herbs, minerals & a slight hint of vanilla. Lingering silky smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing & even at 8 years of age, it should continue to develop further with additional aging. Indicative blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot. An absolutely wonderful wine which has developed quite nicely with time. (3385 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 8/5/2021 & rated 95 points: This was quite solid and showing well. Dryness on the finish, nice fruit up front though a bit congested at first but opened up over a couple of hours. Worth decanting. Expressive, good concentration, structured, but yielding well now with the bit of bottle age. Will likely improve further with another few years. (3086 views)
Tasted by americanstorm on 7/25/2021 & rated 95 points: One hour decant. Somewhat subtle nose of cherry, rose and spice. Great mouthfeel with very fine tannins. Earthy with a minerality aspect. Sweet red fruits. Good finish. Really opened up around the 2 hour mark. This is a very nice wine that is drinking beautifully. While not cheap I think it is punching above its price point. Would buy again. 95+ (2973 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.
