| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by nulla on 1/4/2018 & rated 92 points: This was consumed, half on Thursday night and half on Saturday night. I found it a bit closed on the Thursday, good fruit, wood treatment a balance of fine tannins and acid but not giving up any wow factor. Then on Saturday, it was like drinking a wine that has grown up and fleshed out. Fruit more evident, mocha and caramel wood with light tannins and more length, delicious. Should have left it for another 3-5 years. 92 (649 views) | | Tasted by srh on 8/19/2017: Australian Reds (Rhone Vars) (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Jammy, smoky, with notes of garigue?
P: Med body; Rndish entry with ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by just a bit of astringent pucker which MOSTLY resolves by the LONG, slightly spicy, somewhat tangy/swt finish. Cellar this into early '18, then drink for the ff'ing 3 or 4 yrs. 93 pts WA, 92 pts ea WE, James Halliday, & Australian Wine Review. Also, GenXY Wines tasted 369 Shirazes/Syrahs, this receiving 1/31 "Gold Medal Standard" ratings. [As of early Mar '20, wine-searcher shows no available sources for this vintage]. (449 views) | | Tasted by jmcmchi on 5/3/2017 flawed bottle: I have to hope this was a flawed sample - cooked and so-so texture (682 views) | | Tasted by srh on 4/8/2017: Australian Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: FRAGRANT with LASER-like focus; Lingonberry jam, rest tough to parse
P: Med, poss LM, body; NICE frt on front met by a VERY slight mid-P pucker which SLOWLY mitigates into a LONG, tangy finish. Lovely to drink right now, might improve over the next 6 mos, then drink through '19. A well made, DELIGHTFULLY balanced effort! 93 pts WA, 92 pts ea WE, James Halliday, & Australian Wine Review. Also, GenXY Wines tasted 369 Shirazes/Syrahs, this receiving 1/31 "Gold Medal Standard" ratings.
Note: 1st tasted on 1/28/17 (393 views) | | Tasted by srh on 1/28/2017: Winebar [Various Reds] for 1/27/17 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Jammy (lingonberries?) with flowers; spice underneath?
P: Med, poss MF, body; Almost swtish frt with some astringency mid palate, this largely resolving by the long, VERY slightly tangy finish. Drinking nicely now, though may improve for 6-12 mos, then hold for several more yrs. Decent value for a wine of character which is quite drinkable NOW, this vendor's $29.95 being VERY competitive. 93 pts WA, 92 pts ea WE, James Halliday, & Australian Wine Review. Also, GenXY Wines tasted 369 Shirazes/Syrahs, this receiving 1/31 "Gold Medal Standard" ratings. (968 views) | | Tasted by SLOFred on 12/11/2016 & rated 92 points: Had side by side with another Aussie Syrah, a Covenant from Killakanoon. This was definitely a superior wine. A little more costly, but worth the $6 price differential. (581 views) | | Tasted by Giggs on 7/23/2016 & rated 93 points: Wow, this is great. Cola, anise, burning incense, chocolate, dark red/black berries, white pepper. Good balance and acidity, big yet restrained, authentic, and very well made. Drink now-2020 (900 views) |
