Tasted by Livininparidise on 10/7/2023 & rated 93 points: Nose has a slight floral sent. Lable suggests violet and sage, but I do not quite get that.

On the palette, slight earthiness, coco, black berries, some blue berry on the very back end.

Terrific wine that has multiple levels of flavor with smooth tannins. Last bottle in the cellar, and it was worth holding. (232 views)
Tasted by wine-enthusiast on 4/11/2021 & rated 91 points: Floral nose that transcends into blueberry. Medium full, reaching peak drinking time. (876 views)
Tasted by actx on 12/18/2020 & rated 92 points: Great wine from the Stagecoach Vineyard and has everthing you would expect from a $100 wine. Deep purple/black, lots of tannins still. Raspberrie, chocolate, muted cedar. Really great wine and phenomal QPR. (850 views)
Tasted by wine-enthusiast on 4/15/2019 & rated 92 points: When first opened this wine has a beautiful spice and floral nose. This wine is still very dark, coats the glass. I find the 2013's to be very tannic and concentrated. This wine is JUST beginning to open up. Medium bodied it has tannins that are moderate, but definitely there. The finish is long on the palate, finishing with varnish notes. Black fruits are present but not prominent. Stagecoach fruit at this price is simply not found. (1301 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 9/2/2018 & rated 88 points: Not bad at all. First half had nice aroma and taste. Big, but restrained with nice balance, medium acidity and smooth tannins. Very nice.

Second half (stored in a cool environment, but just stuck the cork back in) was a different tale completely. Aroma was still there, but the taste just got a bit musty. Still decent, but was definitely not what it was the first night. (1396 views)
Tasted by wine-enthusiast on 4/15/2018 & rated 89 points: This wine is still dark, nice bouquet. This bottle was not quite as deep as the others in flavors. It was nice, good body. The other bottles had more floral aromas.... (1477 views)
Tasted by Z1nnfull on 4/12/2018 & rated 90 points: Since 8/8/2017 note this has come together well, and while I would encourage decanting ahead of time versus pop and pour, this is drinking quite well now. Very much Napa Cab grape juice. Nice for the price. Quite a fine wine, excellent effort Cam & Co! (1055 views)
Tasted by Z1nnfull on 8/8/2017 & rated 90 points: I have to agree with the 1/13/17 review. Was not expecting what we found. The first night, we gave it an 89, got home too late and did not decant enough. Left about 8 oz and on the second night, WOW! This wine is NOT a pop and pour, needs air, decanting and it is as good as many Napa Cabs priced at $50 or thereabouts. Was medium-bodied, good finish, 100% varietally correct for a Napa Cab. Should drink well into 2018 but NEEDS AIR! (1659 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 1/13/2017 & rated 91 points: Despite my heavy skepticism toward the CH wines over the years (the bottle variation, for example), this particular lot delivers well, repeatedly. A relatively ripe cab, but it has the structure, acidity, and complexity. Improved significantly over several hours of decanting, exhibiting red currant, blackberry, and blue fruit notes on the palate. Better showing than the over-hyped 2013 Clos du Val Cab, of which I have had several bottles over the last 8-10 months. (1896 views)
Tasted by kingboo on 7/11/2016 & rated 91 points: Nice fruit and complexity, but tannins lacking. Not an ager, so drink up. (1975 views)
Tasted by RedValues on 6/15/2016 & rated 88 points: Decanted 3 hrs, opaque plum color, big nose with slight vanilla, med+ mouthfeel, long finish, too much oak, not very round, will wait another year. (1903 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 6/11/2016 & rated 91 points: Consistent with my 4/4/2016 note. Better than the 2012 analogue (lot 525), with less extraction and more balance. Still needs time. (1741 views)
Tasted by wine-enthusiast on 4/30/2016 & rated 91 points: This wine is opaque, with a sweet winey nose at the beginning that forms into a blackberry oak notes. medium =full bodied the wine has tannins yet comes out with a nice long finish. Just beginning to come together this wine will improve and in 2-5 years be wonderful. (1540 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 4/4/2016 & rated 91 points: More impressive than lot 525 from 2012. Great texture on the palate, especially with some decanting. Surprisingly accessible, with well integrated tannins despite the obvious young age, energy, and promise for the future. Really nice Cabernet fruit, even if a tad too sweet, on the palate. Compares favorably to a long list of more expensive 2012 cabs. (1395 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 2/15/2016 & rated 89 points: Shows promise but way too sweet at this point (think, 2012 Caymus regular bottling). I am having my second thoughts on this one but hoping it will improve with time. (1172 views)
Tasted by bigdomer on 2/3/2016 & rated 90 points: Great qpr (1401 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 11/24/2015 & rated 91 points: Consistent with my prior notes, continues to exhibit streaks of great complexity after generous decanting. Promising but certainly needs more cellaring. (1494 views)
Tasted by actx on 11/18/2015 & rated 91 points: Early but a great stagecoach wine. (1772 views)
Tasted by jaxpaj on 11/11/2015 & rated 92 points: very good and great QPR (2004 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 11/4/2015 & rated 91 points: Liked this one more than lot 596 and lot 598. A tannic beast upon opening, with hollow fruit. More tannic than lot 525 was a year ago. Two hours of decanting improved the wine considerably: tannins mellowed and fruit came forward becoming much fuller and rounded. Promising. (1546 views)
Tasted by jfaulk on 10/29/2015 & rated 91 points: Good Napa cab. Consistent with previous notes (1628 views)
Tasted by jfaulk on 10/13/2015 & rated 91 points: My wife likes this better than the 596. It is more fruit-forward, but has plenty of structure and layers to support it. Velvety mouthful, lush fruit, hints of earth, tobacco, spice and chocolate. A tad hot....It's good and for me personally, it's a close second to the 596. Still, a great effort and great QPR. 2013 Cameron Hughes Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 597 Stagecoach Vineyard

In the glass, Lot 597 is opaque and lined with a deep ruby rim. After a decant, rich aromas of dust, bramble, and wet stone mesh with undercurrents of raspberry jam, smoke, and floral nuance. The palate is refined and elegant, with fine grained tannins enveloped by dark berry flavors that linger with intensity and focus. This wine will retain youth and age beautifully for the decades to come, and should be seriously considered as a cellar candidate.

Style: Full, Bold
Flavors: Blackberry, Cassis

Cam Confidential
Like Lot 525, Lot 597 is sourced from Stagecoach Vineyard's famed M6 Block – the same soil where $100-$200 bottles of Napa’s elite get their grapes. Even better, 2013 is universally hailed as an incredible vintage by critics, most notably Wine Spectator and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. What I love about this wine is the seamless integration of power and elegance – a real mountain wine. The M block straddles the highest knoll in the heart of the vineyard just between Atlas Peak and Pritchard Hill, and produces amazing Cabernet fruit. Made with all the exquisite attention to detail that goes into Napa’s top labels, this wine is another example of what we do best – luxury wines for a fraction of the price.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
