Tasted by MikePass44 on 4/23/2024 & rated 93 points: Tons of earth aromas up front, some bell pepper, old leather, blackberry, hint of black licorice. More fruit initially on the palate, mostly blackberry and black cherry, then the savory notes come through strong - coffee granules, dried herbs, sweet tobacco. Super cool. Medium complexity, medium body, medium minus tannins (super soft), medium plus acid. Even better after being open for a couple hours. Good stuff! (36 views)
Tasted by wgilbert3 on 3/21/2019 & rated 89 points: Nicely balanced but still very young. Red fruit on the nose, plenty of acid and tannin on the palate with a mix of red and dark fruit, plus hints of mushroom. Needs at least 2 more years, maybe more. (746 views)
Tasted by specialtyclerk on 2/19/2019 & rated 83 points: Round, spicy easy. (732 views)
Tasted by FLXHoneymoon on 1/7/2019: Good fruit and some earthy notes. Good wine. (885 views)
Tasted by ohne_musik on 11/19/2017 & rated 86 points: Fruity, light bodied, lightly spicy cab franc. Seems more like a warm climate wine than I was expecting - light tannins, a bit of cherry cough syrup and not a ton of savory character. (1474 views)
Tasted by epiphany on 7/3/2017 & rated 90 points: Consistent. Love the funky Franc nose. (1637 views)
Tasted by aajder on 4/6/2017 & rated 88 points: Deep color for this region. The nose is very inviting, showing aromas of raspberry, tree bark, herbs, green olive and hints of flowers. This is medium bodied on the palate with good concentration and very good class. The fairly long finish features good acidity and ripe tannins. Elegantly structured... (1332 views)

Tasted by epiphany on 1/20/2017 & rated 89 points: AAJDER is spot on. Beautiful nose and mid palette, and a fairly long finish. Well done Ravines. Gotta love Finger Lakes Cabernet Franc. (1292 views)
Tasted by Schaf100 on 1/12/2017 & rated 80 points: Alcohol forward - light body and white pepper on the finish without much fruit. Could use some time to develop. (923 views)
Tasted by dream on 1/8/2017 & rated 88 points: Classic Cab France nose of dark cherries and green tobacco. This is quite young yet with almost spritzy acidity but it's a beautifully balanced CF with nice dark cherry fruit along with notes of green leaf and violet spice. The texture is smooth and elegant and the wine has good frip on the finish. This could easily pass for a fine Chinon but could use a year or two to settle down. Really well done. 88+ (710 views)
Tasted by aajder on 11/21/2016 & rated 87 points: Bright color. The nose shows aromas of ripe black raspberry, cherry, herbs, pepper and a hint of flowers. This is medium bodied on the palate with very good concentration and good class. The medium plus length finish features ripe tannins. Delicious! (522 views)
Tasted by aajder on 10/20/2016 & rated 87 points: Deep, bright color. The nose is pure, showing aromas of wild raspberry, herbs, earth, cedar and a hint of pepper. This is medium bodied on the palate with very good concentration and good class. The medium plus length finish features ripe tannins. Impressive and with ageing potential... (502 views)
Tasted by aajder on 10/2/2016 & rated 86 points: Deep color. The nose shows aromas of dark berries, earth, herbs and a hint of bell pepper. This is medium bodied on the palate with good concentration and good class. The medium plus length finish features ripe tannins. Round and easy to enjoy! (526 views)
Tasted by rtewh on 9/18/2016: A strong nose of H2S. The wine tasted fine but I couldn't get past the sulphur. (491 views)
Tasted by JerM on 9/17/2016: JM visits Finger Lakes! (Finger Lakes): Leather, berries, mint, cherry, pepper, leafy, tobacco leaf sweetness. Elegant and restrained. (647 views)

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wines & Vines article

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
