Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.7 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 44 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by quaffnov on 9/5/2022 & rated 91 points: No formal note, this is beginning to show the positive side of an aging riesling, with a petrol nose beginning to develop. More off dry than anything else, it has a nice balance of acidity and fruit. (904 views)
Tasted by Tubulus on 5/20/2022: 2015 Kabinett tasting (NYC): My 7, group 1. Crazy nose, a bit of spritz and apple, good acidity. (1270 views)
Tasted by Saint-Exupéry on 7/4/2021 & rated 92 points: The nose was immediately arresting with white peaches and a touch of citrus and some pears. Excellent balance and energy, loved the interplay of acid and touches of sweetness. On the palate lots of minerality with a creamy mouthfeel. Real classic Kabinett sweetness and structure here, just what I want in a Kabinett. Already very good, with excellent potential for further development. (1375 views)
Tasted by jtsejersen@gmail.com on 12/14/2018 & rated 93 points: Time for another Keller review. I'm still so amazed this producer and this Kabinett just hits the sweetspot on my palate. Food friendly wine and not overly sweet, but still with enough sweetness to notice and stand out. This is not a particular complex wine but every nuance of this wine just sits right. No "funky surprises" on the nose, the palate or even on the finish - it just stays exactly where you want it from start to finish. Pear, green apples and a little hint of honey melon and salt (358 views)
Tasted by JohanPe on 11/4/2018 & rated 92 points: Consistent with previous note, excellent. (2497 views)
Tasted by JohanPe on 4/20/2018 & rated 91 points: Lots of stones and minerality in this kabinett from Keller. Citrus and pears but far from the lollipop sweetness you sometimes can find in young Rieslings. White flowers and elder notes. Good acidity backbone. Very young and still a bit all over the place, although in a very settled and reserved way. Lovely mouthfeel with perfect amount of sweetness lingering on the tip of the tongue. Like this a lot and got super potential. (2500 views)
Tasted by Tubulus on 12/26/2017: By night 2 this was (relatively) open, excellent balance. (2488 views)
Tasted by bsycheng80hk on 11/26/2017 & rated 89 points: Sparkling!,
reduction on the nose, some yellow fruit notes, but muted
Palate: lime, peach, minerals/stone, waves of acid, sweet sherbet
Creamy long finish
Complex (2656 views)
Tasted by Marole on 10/20/2017 & rated 91 points: Such a charmer. If you're having southeast asian or any food with sweetness and chili heat this what you are drinking. (2469 views)
Tasted by Tubulus on 9/18/2017: A little grumpy, a little spritzy, a bit shutdown. But was still popular at the table and there's a ton of extract and material in there. Opened a bit more on night 2 and 3 but needs time. (1999 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 8/17/2017: Super duper tasty (1717 views)
Tasted by ESTEELE90 on 7/11/2017: Tasting. Brief note. Off dry with what seemed like a fair amount of RS to my tastes. Quite tropical and sweet. I think this would've benefited from being slightly more chilled. The acidity was there but it felt lacking in proportion to other elements. Give this some time. (1914 views)
Tasted by fred o. on 7/8/2017: color light yellowish gray. Nose slight funk, some wax. Palate juicy and off-dry but refreshing especially with a slight chill, notes of pears and tropical fruits, floral. Definitely expressive and enjoyable. 90 pts (1935 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 7/6/2017: Delicious summer juice (1276 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 7/6/2017: Beautiful Duffy wine (1407 views)
Tasted by larseman on 3/10/2017 & rated 92 points: Farligt gott! (1674 views)
Tasted by Puteljen! on 12/31/2016 & rated 91 points: 3 bottles drank at dinner new years eve. No formal notes. Very good kabinett with some sweetness but good balace. Young and fruit forward. (1597 views)
Tasted by chatters on 12/3/2016: Crawford River new releases and their mentors (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Stone fruit, apple, white pepper, muted cream and butter and slight sulphur notes. Initially quite sweet orchard fruit before acidity cleans it all up. Bit short but okay. (1709 views)
Tasted by CranBurgundy on 10/18/2016 & rated 89 points: Just a little sweeter (roughly 40g rs/L compared to roughly 20g rs/L) with a pinch more apple and a hair less citrus notes than Keller's basic Qba version of their Limestone Riesling. (88 points: "Nose of grapefruit & lemon/lime citrus with slate & limestone plus a hint of honeysuckle. Lots of tart citrus and passionfruit on the palate. Almost spritzy. Nice minerality with acidity that makes the finish go on for over a minute. Simple but very enjoyable.") The sugar seems to give it more pop, and therefore this merits an extra point over its basic cousin. The wife likes the other a hair better, but that's to be expected as I like the classifications with higher sugar levels more than her because of my insatiable sweet tooth.

Summary: this is good stuff. Buy more. (1681 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 10/11/2016 & rated 91 points: Just a wonderful mouthful of apples and citrus fruits with a slight hint of flowers. This lives up to its name with a chalky, stony, mineral-like finish. A bit of spritz really keeps this lively and energetic. Just off-dry with excellent balance. (1543 views)
Tasted by gripNsip on 9/13/2016 & rated 87 points: Still a bit of SO2 showing in the nose after 4 days open... Nose shows yellow apples, pear, melon. Not a lot going on in the nose. Nice intensity on the palate, stone fruit, asian pear, leading into some tart acids and chalky minerality in the finish. Overall it's nice wine but, and I rarely say this about German Riesling, it's to young and could stand with some time in bottle to fully integrate. 87 today with upside. (1693 views)
Tasted by Gargantua on 8/11/2016: If I had any more bottles, I would let them integrate their baby fat--lots of floral exuberance on opening, this will become more filigreed with a year or so I'd imagine. Still lovely after a couple hours open! (1458 views)
Tasted by J3r0me H@n on 8/1/2016 & rated 92 points: Delicious. Delicious. Delicious.

Slight carbonation and big fruity nose of ripe stone fruits and lemon meringue pie.

Definitely some RS left at about 40g but well balanced with some acidity to keep it fresh on the palate with a longer than expected finish. Medium to full body and once again... delicious. (1273 views)
Tasted by EstimatedEyes on 7/24/2016 & rated 89 points: Drank over 3 days, with a 5-hr cellar decant in the middle to see what that might bring out. Very layered, with a lot of honey and fruit on the front end; green apple emerged after the decant. Was hoping for a bit more acidity on the back end to balance it out. Still young though, and very nice for what it is. (1062 views)
Tasted by quistz on 7/9/2016: Yum. Fruit, zippy acidity, plush texture. Perfectly balanced Kab. Needs some time for the SO2 to integrate - very muted on the first day. Tasted great by the third day. (1283 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
