Tasted by Chrwerner on 4/30/2024 & rated 95 points: laut Manfred 96
Zwetschgenröster Weihrauch Himbeermarmelade (249 views)
Tasted by Amberissey on 2/18/2024 & rated 90 points: The finish is the headline of this wine at its current stage of evolution. It is salty, mineral (crushed rocks), tart berries, and goes on for ages. The nose, and also the attack and mid palette is delicious and concentrated, but very young with ripe black fruit and oak, but the finish is spectacular. 90 for now, but the upside when everything comes together is off the scale. (863 views)
Tasted by sjfunkenhauser on 1/7/2024 & rated 91 points: Dark, ripe and inky. Very intense on first pour and needs some air to come together. After decanting for 2-3 hours, the core of ripe dark fruit settles down and makes way for cedar, spices and cocoa. Not what I would expect from Cabernet Franc, but a well made wine.

Deep purple colour.

Pronounced aromas of dark plums, ripe blackberries, dark cherry, cedar, vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, cocoa, leather, licorice.

Pronounced palate.

Medium (+) body, high acidity, medium (+) tannins, long finish. (1083 views)
Tasted by sdr on 7/9/2023 & rated 90 points: Powerful and concentrated but somewhat diffuse and lacking focus. It’s 85% Cabernet Franc. (2204 views)
Tasted by GrumpyGilly on 7/6/2023 & rated 95 points: Deep ruby with a heavy perfume of violets, candied strawberry and black plums. Tannins are medium (+) but very smooth and acidity is high which lifts this above being a heavy wine and creates excellent balance. Slight trace of green bell peppers and fresh leather and vanilla. Not too many tertiary notes at this stage so would love to revisit in 5 years. (1812 views)
Tasted by Schiffy on 6/6/2023 & rated 96 points: This Cab Franc/Malbec blend has delicious dark fruit that reminds me more like a wine from the left bank of Bordeaux. Complex with notes of chocolate, violet and forest floor with a balanced spice on the finish. Super smooth on the palate and a very long finish of oak and delicious dark fruit. This is a great wine that has many years left to develop in the bottle. (1997 views)
Tasted by kostaslonis on 2/14/2023: Gran Enemigo 2016 tasting, via tubes samples (Oinoscent): Very fragrant, floral notes, green bell pepper, well balanced, high intensity, a thicker oak frame than the rest of the wines
In the palate, the wines show high intensity again, stronger, tighter tannins, almost brutal ones, juicy blue fruit, medium to full body, herbal/stalky freshness, long finish
With time and air in the glass, you get the character that we all love ! (1878 views)
Tasted by MaxCellars on 2/11/2023 & rated 97 points: Decanted for about 45 minutes, this was smooth as silk with a combination of red and black fruit, woody herbs, violet, and slate on the nose. On the palate, it trended toward darker fig and plum notes but with good freshness and acidity that combined a sense of casis of dried orange peel. Perfectly balanced and a beautiful expression of Gualtallary. Excited to try again in five years. (2518 views)
Tasted by Chrwerner on 10/20/2022 & rated 92 points: Good to drink now (2778 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/10/2022 & rated 93 points: In the bouquet dark berries and ripe red berries and cherries. On the palate dark berries, herbs and spices, beautiful acidity and mild tannin, a touch of sweetness. Full bodied and aromatic , juicy wine with a good length. In its young maturity stage now. 92 – 93 (2764 views)
Tasted by pgartner on 10/8/2022 & rated 93 points: Just wonderful! (2501 views)
 Tasted by levicn on 7/2/2022 & rated 91 points: (3308 views)
Tasted by Hendmo on 6/27/2022 & rated 92 points: Nose of dark fruits, a bit of licorice, cloves, violets and just a little bit of heat. Young and virile. The medium bodied palate is fresh and vibrant, and again flavours of intense dark fruits, with plums, blueberries, blackberry and cassis. Licorice, slate and spices add some complexity, but still very primary (and not in a bad way), this is all about the quality of the fruit at this stage. Very fine tannins add some grip into the medium/long length finish. Very nice… (2789 views)
Tasted by Psdycp on 5/13/2022 & rated 96 points: The nose is more savoury and meaty compared to the other sister single vineyards. The ripe blueberries, plums, floral and toasted spices are behind the big and mineral aromatics now. Some decanting is recommended to open up the wine. The palate is so full, rich and deep with flavours, supported by waves of fresh acidity and very fine tannins that stretch the structure of the wine seamlessly from entry to finish which lingers for a long time. Yet, everything is in balance and not disjointed or in your face. Still young but this has the finesse to grow into a great wine. A few more years of aging will open the structure even more, revealing the hidden nuances. A wine that is made to age for at least 2 decades. 96-98 pts. (2795 views)
Tasted by Campelo Filho on 4/14/2022 & rated 97 points: The 2016 vintage in Mendoza is considered 5 stars. El Grande Enemigo Cabernet Franc is already a great wine. black ruby. Intense. Velvety. Very complex and layered, El Gran Enemigo combines notes of ripe black fruit, spice, sandalwood, chocolate and balsamic. A fantastic, smooth, velvety wine. Extraordinary. (2886 views)
Tasted by mrgarreth on 3/23/2022 & rated 89 points: Deep and perfumed, with jammy fruits and heady lavender. Grippy tannins and so much fruit. The finish is long and laden.

It's esoteric and expensive. (3008 views)
Tasted by Gemofwine on 3/12/2022 & rated 93 points: Intense & rich, black fruits centric, needs more aging.
Balanced (2334 views)
Tasted by ericindc on 3/5/2022 & rated 94 points: Dinner at Malbec in DC (Washington, DC): One of the best "new world" cab francs I've had. Full of great fruit, but not overpowering, a hint of green, but not alot (I for the record, I like the green). Moderate tannins, with a solid acid cut. Very nice wine. (2538 views)
Tasted by MB17 on 2/21/2022 & rated 92 points: Very good in a new world fashion. It is not as acidic or organic as for instance a Chinon, more intense and "sweeter", the best one can get in this style. That's why a 92. For my personal taste, it is more a 91, I just prefer a different style. (2128 views)
Tasted by Scutz on 1/3/2022 & rated 95 points: Amazing. will store rest of purchase. (2795 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 12/2/2021 & rated 93 points: Medium+ nose intensity with notes of spices, flora, black fruits, pepper, spices. Medium+ acidity and tannin. Tannin is smooth on the palate. (2721 views)
Tasted by rudygari on 11/6/2021 & rated 97 points: Intense aromas and concentrated notes of cassis, ripe currants, and sweet spices including black pepper and cloves (2932 views)
Tasted by rickzhong on 9/24/2021 & rated 96 points: Purplish and inky red color. Subtle but seductive peppery and tangerine peel aroma on the nose. Very rich and intensive black fruits and floral notes on the palate , wrapped by mouthful tannin indicating huge aging potential and upside . Brilliant !

92-93 for now and 96 for the potential (3205 views)
Tasted by GBVinos on 9/20/2021 & rated 89 points: Balanced, soft tanin, not overtly fruity, with black pepper and green herbs like oregano. (3058 views)
Tasted by Osvaldo Junior on 5/9/2021 & rated 88 points: Pelo menos 1 hora n decanter (3605 views)

Argentina

Wines of Argentina

Argentina has been making wine since the 1500s, tracing its wine heritage back to Spain, France and, perhaps surprisingly, Italy. Italian immigration is second only to Spanish in Argentine culture, and the flavors of Italy show up strongly in the nation’s wine, food and cultural tradition. Historically, Argentina has kept much of its wine consumption at home, drinking most of the wine it makes. But we are now seeing more very serious Argentine wines north of the border, and Malbec is leading the movement. The wine-making region in Argentina ranges between the 22° and 42° South latitude. It spreads at the foothills of the Andean mountain range along over 2,400 km; from the province of Salta to the province of Río Negro, with a variety of climates and soils that makes each region a unique land. In general terms, the areas dedicated to vine cultivation are dry and arid with a low level of rain and humidity, determining factor as regards grape health. Abundant sunny days and thermal amplitude favor a good maturity and concentration of aroma and color in the grain. Soils are deep, permeable and poor in organic matter, decisive qualities at the time of obtaining good wine. Due to the low rain regime, irrigation is necessary. Water comes from the Andean range thaw, descending in the shape of rivers to become channels or ditches. Undoubtedly, the combination of these factors turns Argentina into a veritable oasis for the highest quality wine-making. Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go. Wine-making in Argentina, at the level that it achieves today, has a young history that goes back to a little more than 10 years ago. Technological progress, investment and some farsighted businessmen enabled a determining transformation. The province of Mendoza is the most traditional area in the viticultural industry, and is diverse enough to be divided into zones, according to their significantly different weather, height and soil characteristics. These include the Northern Zone, which is suitable for fruity whites and young reds, at a height from 600 to 700m; the Eastern Zone, with a height ranging from 600 to 700m, and the most productive zone in the province; the Uco Valley, a zone of colder weather and higher altitudes (between 800 and 1,400m over sea level); San Rafael, with heights ranging from 450 to 800m; and the High Zone of the Mendoza River, with heights ranging from 800 to 1,100m over sea level and various microclimates, this is the zone where almost all noble varieties have easily become adapted. It is a region that is remarkably well-suited to vine culture, protected from the Pacific’s cooling influence by the Andes and enjoying a long summer of cool nights and warm days, with a dry summer climate but plenty of water available from the region’s rivers. Malbec in particular is outstanding from this area, and it has clearly emerged as the star, the darling of both consumers and critics.
