Community Tasting Notes (average 92.1 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 41 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Collector1855 on 10/20/2021 & rated 95 points: Initially closed but after 15min in the glass opening up nicely. Wonderful nose of stone fruit, quince, bruised apples, almonds, pear. Rich on the palate, earthy and masculine for a BdB, reminds me almost of a Clos des Goisses. Lovely tertiary notes on the finish. This is grand, great QPR too. 95+ (2733 views)
Tasted by JRockEsq on 6/5/2021 & rated 92 points: Method: chilled; bordeaux glass

Look: medium gold; light bubbles

Nose: brioche, cream, poached pear, vanilla, custard

Palate: white flower, pear, biscuit, lemon pith; medium+ finish of chalk, white flower; medium- super fine bubbles (great); medium- body; medium acidity

Overall thoughts: This is in a really good place right now. The bubbles have (presumably) mellowed and are wonderful right now, although, if you let this sit in the glass too long, you'll lose the bubbles and a lot of the acidity, and it will get just a bit fat/flabby. Keep this chilled and it will show very well. Paired great with caviar and blini, although, I'd probably want a bit more acid for more hearty foods like fried chicken. Great wine, but if you want to pair it with food, I might drink it fairly soon. (1692 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 11/11/2020: One of the pioneers in organic farming in champagne in the 90s when production of champagne was much more industrial than artisanal. Rich, powerful champagne, plenty of red-fruited character that made people think this was a Pinot heavy champagne. Despite the low dosage (2g/l), it appeared a little sweet with the fully ripe fruit and oak usage that gave some yeasty notes. Always held back from buying this producer because of supposed variation but this was a very good bottle. (2073 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 1/1/2020 & rated 92 points: New Years Day: Vrai Champagne, Fourth Annual Edition (Brad & Marcia's Place, St. Paul, MN): Light medium gold color. Pear, filberts, structured and deep, this carries some weight, firm but still round and yeasty. 92+pts. (2580 views)
Tasted by AV2012 on 3/5/2019 & rated 92 points: Buttery sweet, lush, giving nose, complete and harmonic. Lush and simply tasty. Fat, ginger, exotic fruits, not too chalky. (2422 views)
Tasted by dagij on 12/1/2017 & rated 92 points: Larmadier-Bernier is always trustworthy when it comes to producing elegant blanc de blancs with a strong minerality. This is no exception. Straw yellow, beginning maturity of colour, persistent and small bubbles. Intense nose of red apples, chalk and yeast/bread. Quite full bodied for a blanc de blancs, very dry, concentrated taste of red apples and yeast with a strong minerally aftertaste. This almost gives me an iron feel, like sticking your tongue on wet steel! Very fresh and citrusy in addition to the mineral tones. Long. Very delicate mousse. This is just a great champagne that can compete with the very best. (1937 views)
Tasted by Steveleslie on 7/29/2017 & rated 92 points: Rich, light bronze gold colour with persistent bead; gently voluptuous aromas of dark peach flowers, orange zest and spiced tea, yet it shows the classic restraint and finesse of Cramant; a lovely palate of lemon curd and restrained orange tones, gentle touches of oak fermentation. Typically pristine Larmandier Bernier style with tingling light minerality, it shows the warmth of the vintage but transcends it with gently powerful intensity. (3777 views)
Tasted by Christine Havens on 6/4/2017 & rated 94 points: Walnut skins, curling yellow parchment paper, roasted yellow apples, poached pear, and honeysuckle. Larmandier-Bernier's Vieille Vigne de Cramant Grand Cru 2006 always feels autumnal to me and masterfully constructed. Subtle oxidation, ultra-fine mousse and quarried vinosity on the finish makes this a somewhat austere Champagne. One feels compelled to study it, the graceful lines and branching sexpartite ribs, transverse arches, and dappled, dusty sunlight filtered through clerestory windows, it's weightless, timeless charm. 12.5% ABV (1730 views)
Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 9/7/2016 & rated 91 points: Wow, wow, wow! Our first ever sip of this champagne, and we were impressed. Very reasonably priced. Vibrancy with a nice yeasty, light fruit, creamy nose and powerful palate. Happy experience. Thanks to Jordan for recommending!!! (3706 views)
Tasted by AV2012 on 7/10/2016 & rated 93 points: Since the last year it has become a bit more full bodied. More butterscotch and cream, hasn't lost the white fruits or balance. Excellent, and one of my favourite bottlings by grower in its unapologetically hedonistic style. (4538 views)

Tasted by r.o.man on 5/28/2016 & rated 94 points: Incredibly long. Very restraint and very deep. Chalky, buttery, shiny, sweet/ripe. Dosage 2g/L. Ethereal, pure terroir. One of the rare wines with wow effect. (4080 views)
Tasted by Life At Your Leisure 🍷 on 2/12/2016 & rated 93 points: Medium to dark yellow-gold color with a dense body - almost creamy; medium-high acidity. The palate has highly-concentrated flavors of hazelnut, pear, sunflower. It's not for the faint of heart, this rich, structured wine goes well with strong cheeses and even some meats. Finishes long and sumptuous with hints of vanilla and toasted oak. Drink now until 2026. (3372 views)
Tasted by harrylime on 12/25/2015 & rated 91 points: Fuller than the Longitude, more rounded. Florals and quince. Clean and long finish. (3471 views)

Tasted by hajoha on 8/16/2015 & rated 87 points: Blind.
Modne epler, litt ananas og autolysepreg.
Fin mousse, litt flat munnfølelse.
Medium konsentrasjon og medium minus friskhet.
Brukbar lengde.
Ålreit vin, men mangler litt spenst og nerve.
Relativt mye bitterhet i finish.
Har kanskje noe å hente med tid?

Nailet (griseflaks😄) landsby og årgang.
Med fasit i hånd, var dette noe skuffende. (2938 views)
Tasted by AV2012 on 7/17/2015 & rated 92 points: Pleasantly full, even rich nose compared to Terre de Vertus. Nose of grapefruits, mild, but ripe fruits. Certain roundness and excellent balance. Good, juicy fruits are coming forward and it will be excellent when it loses some of that accidity and more creaminess and fudge will come forward. (2908 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 7/2/2015 & rated 92 points: Sort of the polar opposite of the Terre de Vetus--with richer, apple tart notes, dusty Cinnamon, good minerals although more in the background than with the Terre, fuller body, darker color, as it should be going from 1er cru to GC fruit I suppose. But to me it the flavors seemed to dissipate a bit quicker ans it lost some verve rather quickly. could "chalk" it up to the vintage going from the Terre '08 to this '09. Very nice, would like to try the '08. (2652 views)
Tasted by Mellers on 12/28/2014: Soft golden hue. Lush brioche, wet stones and apples. Like a feather pillow in the mouth but with beautiful, minerally fruit - no obvious sweetness but certainly not as austere as the low dosage (2g/l) might suggest thanks to obviously top drawer fruit. Preferred it cellar cool and with some time in broader glass to let it open up. (2698 views)
Tasted by AV2012 on 12/6/2014 & rated 92 points: Domaine Champagne tasting: Wow, after two bottles from Mesnil this Cramant really showed what different terroirs were all about. Much more expressive and intense! Fresh, creamy vanilla note, creme brulee, lovely grapefruit bitterness on the finish, more pronounced citrus cut throughtout all the palate. Powerful, serious, loved it. (2755 views)
Tasted by David Paris (dbp) on 9/17/2014 & rated 92 points: Rockstar Champagne... like, all of them (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Very rich, lush aromas. Some nice minerality. Pretty, nice and cutting. Very very soft texture. Some nice fruit is present on the palate, including apples but also some red fruit. Nice minerality, too. Very nice luscious body fills the palate on the finish. Very zippy lingering acids. Quite sharp, but very nice. (4122 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 7/14/2014 & rated 92 points: great tasting at Larmandier Bernier. one flight with three glases, 2002, 2005and 2006, more fruit than 2005, creamy, yeasty, minerals, a great BdB drink over the next 10 years, balanced, zero dosage but because of the ripeness you feel the fruit sugar (2897 views)
Tasted by Wine_lvr on 7/13/2014 & rated 92 points: Golden in color. Nose of Granny Smith Apples, brioche. The wine is still on the young side. Overall not yet balanced (acidity), and still very dry. Overall great stuff but just still too young. (2597 views)
Tasted by odds on 6/15/2014 & rated 92 points: Bright gold, dry, nutty on the taste... getting better in the glass. Beautiful bubbles... long finish. Enjoyable. A surprise in the testing of nine side by side. Very good (2437 views)
Tasted by elvinet on 5/15/2014 & rated 93 points: Color amarillo brillante ligeramente dorado y una escasa burbuja que fluye lentamente.

Larmandier-Bernier

Producer website

Pierre Larmandier shares a similar philosophy to that of Francois Egly of Egly-Ouriet. Working only with natural yeasts the influence of 'terroir' is all important to the style of his wines, so much so that he uses a minimum 'dosage' (if at all) so as not to mask the wines natural characteristics. Wines are made only from their own 15 hectares of vines, which are an average 33 years old. His holdings are spread across the Cotes des Blancs in the grand crus villages of Cramant, Chouilly, Oger and Avize, and the premier cru of Vertus. There are around fifty separate parcels, all but three of which (representing 0.5 hectares) are farmed using non-officially certified Biodynamic methods.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
