Aromas of stone fruit, citrus blossoms, and minerality on the nose; tastes of peach, orange rind, and white flowers on the palate; NIce creaminess to the palate. I've unfortunately let too much time pass since drinking it to write a credible note, but it has me intrigued. I am a fan of Faury wines, and this falls in line with Faury's other very satisfying and interesting wines. My memory is lots of rich fruit, a la melons and kiwis. It is not a light wine, but something more substantial that would pair well with complex fish or chicken dishes. Or, maybe it's best with some regional cheeses and leave it at that so that the wine is not competing with anything. It's very good. For adjectives, Bontam’s note before mine is precise and consistent, mostly. A couple of exceptions: the finish in my glass is not particularly long, but is super clean with a lovely orange rind and citrus seed pucker. This light bodied style of viognier is best exemplified in Vernay’s Condrieu, which has a bit more vibrant acidity, depth, and finish. Very fresh impression here overall, distinct granite minerality, but not buttery or creamy. This is a great warm weather quaffer and will drink very well for 3 or 4 more years. Food wise, try a tangy fresh goat cheese, peekytoe crab salad, or simply seasoned grilled mahi w a squeeze of lime. On the nose intense aroma of dried chamomile and orange blossom, baked and preserved lemon, delicate hint of white peach and melon, butter, cream, hint of nuttiness, preserved orange peel, bees wax.
Dry, medium acidity, high alcohol, full bodied, long finish, medium plus intensity. Very good. Not sure about ageing. My guess would be it has developed a little probably since 2016 but not much. Therefore it has potential to age further, without losing its elegance, body and floral aromas but lacks the complexity to develop much more flavour.
Extremely creamy mouthful and long finish making it a nice drink. I'd hate to ruin its elegance with food. Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.
