Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ChâteauneufDuPfaff on 11/16/2023 & rated 90 points: Good BB, on the bit riper side of things (even in 2017). Drink now and soon. (244 views)
Tasted by jviz on 12/5/2021 & rated 90 points: A rather tropical expression for 17, with apricot and peach. I think I would have said 16 if blinded. It’s a little clunky on the palate and with regard to alcohol, so I’ll say drink up. (1560 views)
Tasted by mattym19 on 12/4/2021 & rated 91 points: Pnp; nose is really nice with some smoky matchstick reduction, green tropical fruits, sunshine. Palate is very balanced, medium acidity, slightly grippy but also sightly rich. More small green fruits, pineapple, stones. Paired well with a pan-seared halibut. Excellent Bourgogne Blanc.  Tasted by winemaker on 11/15/2021 & rated 90 points: Last bottle. Solid. (1364 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 10/27/2021 & rated 90 points: Better than Leroux, not quite as good as the Francois Carillon, Thomas Morey or Lafon. (1416 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 9/6/2021 & rated 90 points: This was nice, but I prefer the 2017 Francois Carillon Bourgogne over this. (1510 views)
Tasted by jviz on 8/20/2021 & rated 91 points: For the level, just fantastic. Lots of matchstick reduction. So much so I had a slight headache the next day. Good concentration with lemon curd, white peach, and for my $$ it may be the best Bourgogne Blanc of the 17 vintage i tastedincluding PYCM, Carillon, Roulot. Dancer might be as good, and a little more exotic. This wine will certainly improve with a few more years in the cellar. (1126 views)
Tasted by ttholst on 8/31/2020 & rated 90 points: Pnp. (1823 views)
Tasted by tobyc on 8/30/2020 & rated 91 points: Straw yellow and dusty hue. Med+ intense bouquet w. lime, lemon and white sone fruits. Dry w. med(+) acidity and med body. Somewhat exotic profile with lime and peach. Lacks a bit acidity compared to wines at the village level but got plenty of minerality.

Overall, tastes of more than just a basic blanc. (1521 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 7/2/2020 & rated 90 points: A small gathering with COVID safety measures (Reston, Va): I get banana, grapefruit, white peach and lychee, making me to guess Valentini. Relatively light and refreshing, bright acidity and medium mineral, a medium finish with slightly bitter end. This is a good summer quaffer. (2357 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 6/25/2020: A nose of tropical fruits with some apricot and lavender. It is ripe, but there is containment and a line of fresh minerally acidity keeps everything in check. Expressive and delicious. (1861 views)
Tasted by winecadence on 6/21/2020 & rated 93 points: This was fabulous. Fresh and tangy. Grapefruit and lemon zest. Nice acidity, well balanced wine that offers some depth. Wonderful. (1626 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 2/21/2020 & rated 90 points: Broad shoulders and somewhat too ripe but well made with good length (1975 views)
Tasted by Ellon on 1/22/2020: Good intensity with the wood still in command.Lots of energy with the citrus fruit wrapped in wood. The body and the fruit will for sure endure the wait needed for the wood coat to undress. Long with very well judged acidity. Not a cheap bourgogne but also not an ordinary one at all. Needs time. (1675 views)
Tasted by The_big_boss on 12/24/2019 & rated 91 points: Good. Paired well with halibut. Mineral and balanced citrus aromas. Obviously young and will get better with time. 91++ (1228 views)
Tasted by acyso on 12/8/2019 & rated 90 points: Sunday afternoon wines (Chicago, IL): Very good for the level. It's still a little young in that it shows an almost gummy candy kind of flavour, but underneath that is a wine with more depth than the appellation on the label would indicate. I think about another year for this to lose some of the hyper young wine flavours is in order. (2450 views)
Tasted by csimm on 10/21/2019 & rated 93 points: A little pithy and linear on the initial entry, with white stone fruit, pumice, and steely lemon leading the charge. Overly racy in its current state, missing the main mark mid-palate as it rapidly skips off to the clipped and slightly bitter finish. Ironically, a bit of a matchstick reduction also appears on the back end.

Air indeed helped, and it allowed for a little less of a nervy delivery as it stretched its legs more. There’s likely upside here after a few years in bottle, but for now I’d prefer it had just a bit more weight and girth to counterbalance its springy vivacity.

Even as a base model Bourgogne, this is a definite hold until around 2022+. 90+? points.

UPDATE DAY 2: I bumped this up a few points once I hit a swig on the second go-around a day later. With swirling/air and service just above cellar temperature, it opened up nicely and exhibited some enticing fresh grapefruit and citrus zest notes. Still a little bitter on the tail, but shows a nice backbone that will prove useful for a couple years of aging potential before trying again. 92-93+. (3396 views)
Tasted by I1bearup on 8/16/2019 & rated 89 points: A little clunky as it should be. A very slight reduction leads into nutmeg, vanilla, and white flower. Mouthfeel is strong at first but fades quickly to an extremely light midpalate. Steely finish with zero tannins but not sweet. (1189 views)
Tasted by OaktownRush on 7/20/2019 & rated 91 points: Bright nose of nutmeg, lemon juice, and white flower. High acid on the palate with some texture and mineralogy. Nice length on the finish. Very good value. (1151 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
