| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 93 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by joeprez on 5/15/2024 & rated 94 points: This is a great vintage. 10 years on, the color is dense orangey-rose and the bubbles are subdued but persistent. The color and lack of bubbles made us wonder if it was past its peak, but no, it was full of aromas (red berries, orange, and rose hips), flavor (cherries, tangerine, with a citrus overlay and a crisp minerality), and silky mouthfeel. Punches above its price point. (23 views) | | Tasted by WST on 3/2/2024: Charity wine pairings to benefit Whatcom Hospice House. (Samish Hill, Bellingham, WA): Sabered for the entertainment value. Light salmon colored. Strawberries, peaches come through. The sense of austerity may have been real, or perhaps it was a result of this bottle being sandwiched between the bold E-O VdV and ‘06 Taittinger Comtes. (989 views) | | Tasted by drjb on 12/25/2023 & rated 93 points: Family Christmas Morning on the Sunshine Coast. This opened with a vigorous bead and a rich red robe of colour. The nose shows wild strawberry, white cherries, red apples, lemon zest, Christmas spice and rose tinged nougat. The palate is fruit forward with a frothy minerality and zest that balances things very nicely. This is a joyous wine perfect for Christmas morning ! (960 views) | | Tasted by Martin Redmond on 12/3/2023 & rated 94 points: Harmonious blend of 67% PN and 33% Chard from estate vineyards. It's bursting with tart red berry fruit, fresh baked sourdough, dried pear, lime zest, dried roses and spice character complicated with savory notes and a very appealing minerality with a long finish (1309 views) | | Tasted by rocknroller on 9/28/2023 & rated 92 points: Pale pink color. Drank a glass on Oberg with a nearly completely fogged in view. Dominated by the chalk and minerality, very leesy, indistinct red fruits and apple notes. (1570 views) | | Tasted by Anthony Matson on 7/16/2023 & rated 93 points: Worth the wee wait (1520 views) | | Tasted by CharleneK on 5/21/2023 & rated 93 points: I would buy another one of these today I need to see if I can find one. Creamy texture and complex flavor, beautiful golden color. (1669 views) | | Tasted by jviz on 3/19/2023 & rated 89 points: The wine was nice, fresh, a bit austere with hints of strawberry and cranberry, with stern acidity in a bit of a drying short finish. I understand the qualitative Vineyard improvements that have been going on chez Roederer, but it seems to me like the balance has tipped a little too far in the direction of extra brut, grower styled wines, and this is true for the 14 Cristal as well. I will spend my coin seeking out older renditions. (2082 views) | | Tasted by SouthernStateofMind on 2/4/2023: Strawberry, cranberry combined with warm butter brioche and overt minerality. Excellent lift and precision with long mineral finish. Lovely now and should drink well for decades. (1537 views) | | Tasted by Skotto on 1/1/2023 & rated 95 points: Delicate, mineral, fruit. (859 views) | | Tasted by cweiss on 12/31/2022: Eastman NYE. Delicious, with very good cut and depth. Drinking well. (1700 views) | | Tasted by wineian on 12/26/2022 & rated 92 points: Fresh, crisp, tasty, nice palate (1457 views) | | Tasted by DK Amateur on 12/9/2022: This was firm and came across as very dry and steely with a good structure. It was challenged by the multiple aromatics and tastes of the exciting dishes of *Sein in Karlsruhe but none the worse for that. Great aperitif wine. (1627 views) | | Tasted by rocknroller on 9/30/2022 & rated 93 points: Pale salmon color. From 375nl, up on Leveaux Mtn for picnic. This was lovely, showing a brightness and excellent finesse, red berry fruit, lots of yeast, nice chalk, poised and long. Very refreshing. 93+pt. (1764 views) | | Tasted by geoffreychambertin on 9/5/2022 & rated 93 points: Just pure pleasure. (1751 views) | | Tasted by OenoEd on 7/31/2022 & rated 92 points: Consistent with my note of 12/20 here, but showing a bit more wild yeast and delightful cranberry, almond oil, rose water and cherry pit puckering deliciousness. Worked very well w oysters rockefeller tonight. An easy 10 years of great drinking ahead, and terrific QPR. (2019 views) | | Tasted by Necowine on 7/25/2022 & rated 89 points: From half. Delicious rose champagne of citrusy berries and rich brioche and toasties. Acid fairly harmonized, and still young and firm of structure. Delicious, again - that's my main reaction. Yum. (481 views) | | Tasted by LaberMeier on 7/23/2022 & rated 96 points: Perfect color, perfect balance, perfect taste. (1892 views) | | Tasted by mfimiani47 on 7/22/2022 & rated 91 points: Very clean nose with strawberry coming through. Palate is also clean and enjoyable despite this clearly needing years to really show its stuff. (1668 views) | | Tasted by jviz on 7/5/2022 & rated 90 points: The nose on this wine is quite serious, with minerality and hints of strawberry fruit. On the palate you have good weight and intensity but again rather firm, astringent acids and coming off as a bit grumpy and austere. I’m eager to taste it again and see if the impression holds. Seems to be lacking some dosage for balance. (1755 views) | | Tasted by Neras on 6/23/2022 & rated 91 points: Fruity and light. Wonderful bubbles. Very nice. (1508 views) | | Tasted by rocknroller on 6/13/2022 & rated 92 points: Light pink color. Drank 2 glasses from 375ml. This was a nice little boat wine that certainly didn't get the attention it deserved, but was good nonetheless. Strawberry and cherry fruits, chalk, lots of stony minerality with a vein of delicate chalk, fairly yeasty. Probably conservative, 92(+)pts. (1880 views) | | Tasted by OhPorto on 5/29/2022 & rated 92 points: Similar notes to my last tasting. Quite overt fruit for a Roederer, even a rosé, but perhaps not quite as intense this time. Excellent as an aperitif right now but this will likely shut down hard within the next year and demand at least another 5 in the cellar. Either drink immediately or hold. (1774 views) | | Tasted by DrBad on 5/14/2022 & rated 94 points: Excellent. Peach and almond oil with nice salinity. (1972 views) | | Tasted by jnewman77 on 5/13/2022: Delicious, disappeared quickly (1712 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.ChampagneThe vineyards of Champagne on weinlagen-info |
