Tasted by df1962 on 4/6/2024 & rated 93 points: PnD let air for 2hrs.

Consistent with previous notes. Earthy structured tons of fruit. Tons of life ahead. A BDX style of CCR. Great to compare with the Volpaia. (465 views)
Tasted by MosheDehsoM on 2/13/2024 & rated 88 points: Couple of yeare ago we bought a 2019 bottle in Antinori center and had to open it because we didn't want to carry it through the flight etc.

So when we had a chance a 2016 bottle in Israel, quite over the top🥺

Cloudy red dull color, with a lot of brown.

Medium body. Medium acidity. No tanines, No structure. Smooth.

Vaguely aromatic, spices, terroir, ageing then vaguely barrels and red & black fruits.

Palate: pepper, anise, licorice, hazelnut, cheese, mushrooms, leather, oak, vanilla, plum, cherry, earthy. (856 views)
Tasted by WineGuyFL on 11/12/2023 & rated 92 points: Has come together quite well. Probably selling the numeric rating a little short. The bottle was open for about one and half hours. (1543 views)
Tasted by Ralphs Bar on 10/17/2023: Perfect with pizza. A really nicely balanced Chianti, dark fruit and nice acid but it still tasted rich and silky enough. (1459 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 10/12/2023 & rated 92 points: We opened this tonight for a Greek dinner.
Lovely Chianti to enjoy with Mediterranean cuisine. (1358 views)
Tasted by MatLot on 7/2/2023 & rated 91 points: tres bon rqp a all time buy wine (1830 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 6/6/2023 & rated 92 points: It’s good with Sunday pasta. (1744 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 4/3/2023 & rated 92 points: A delicious Chianti Classico Reserva.
Poured a big glass via the Coravin dispenser to enjoy with spaghetti and meatballs tonight and it really opened up after 1 hour in the glass.
No harshness but quite a substantial glass of wine that coats the mouth and finishes long. (1985 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 11/6/2022 & rated 93 points: PnD let air for 3hrs.

Consistent with previous notes.

Gets better with air. Great complexity balance depth and finish. Tons of life ahead. (3356 views)
Tasted by SimonDong on 10/9/2022 & rated 88 points: nose of red plums and coca beans, licorice. oak, tobacco on the palate. nothing exciting. (3027 views)

Tasted by carl.cornaglia@gmai.com on 8/19/2022 & rated 92 points: Everything I love about chianti was in this bottle with years to go! (2631 views)
Tasted by Tige on 8/2/2022 & rated 88 points: Semblable à la dernière bouteille (voir TN) début 2021. (2375 views)
Tasted by Acove on 7/9/2022 & rated 89 points: 1hr decant. Paired with roasted lamb chops. On the nose, cherry, roasted tomato, chocolate. On the palate, medium bodied, medium + acid and tannin. Decent length and refreshing acidic finish. I can detect some minerality as well. Stands up well to lamb and compliments nicely as well. Overall well done for CCR. Slightly on the higher side for price for CCR but I wouldn't be disappointed to pay $30 for this. Drinking well now with a decant and drink through 2028. (2217 views)
Tasted by Romz on 6/12/2022 & rated 92 points: Deep ruby core with almost garnet rims at its edges & moderately heavy legs. I left 3/4 of the bottle overnight and revisited it. Nose; slight barnyard, dried cherry, sundried tomatoes, some oak, tobacco, and hint of balsamic vinegar. Palate; medium bodied & acidity, tasted sour cherry, ripe tomatoes & plenty of red fruit. Prominent & grippy tannins but not obtrusive. Fleshy chewy tannins with a dry and moderate length finish. (2177 views)
Tasted by Blue Jay on 4/10/2022 & rated 93 points: Very flavorful (3271 views)
Tasted by alvinquah on 4/8/2022 & rated 92 points: As usual, Antinori never disappoint. A classic chianti riserva with bold dark fruits, plum and slight note of oak. Pull and serve through Aveine aerator (3 hours) as recommended from App. Flora and cassis, with full blend of acidity and tannis. Am surprised the tannis is not too overwhelm as typical from sagvionese, especially this vintage. Medium finish. Good QPR! (2470 views)
Tasted by Juliansi on 1/21/2022 & rated 88 points: Another youngish Italian which needs perhaps another year or two, or at least some air time.

Tannins were quite sharp at "pop" but rounded off after 30 mins of glass airing time. Then the cassis notes and blackcurrant came through, have to say it's a 3.5 star for now but will likely evolve into a 4 stars with some patience!

Enjoyed this as our finale, 60th birthday dinner with PP having flown in by the VTL (Vaccinated travel lane) route into Malaysia. Great to be able to enjoy this at Farm to Plate with jowl and ribs too!

Tasted by gurmadori on 1/17/2022 & rated 92 points:

(3604 views)
Tasted by CompleterZRH on 1/15/2022 & rated 88 points: Darkest aromatic profile of a Chianti Classico I've encountered in a long time. Got cassis/blackcurrant in my glass, miss the lively acidity that good Sangiovese brings to the table. (2638 views)
Tasted by econnertx on 12/24/2021 & rated 89 points: The wine looks purple colored. It tastes like dust. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture.

Nice flavor, good wine to pair with pasta (2790 views)
Tasted by Steve Simmons on 12/24/2021 & rated 89 points: 3 hour decant. Had with pasta, red sauce sweet sausage and meatballs.
Dark, not as fruit forward as some other CCRs we tend to favor.
Could just be me, but was getting a metallic taste that seemed to come and go thoughout the tasting.

In the end a fine bottle with food but was just ok at the $30 pricepoint.

We Preferred 2016 Fontodi and 2015 Canonica CCR that are at lower price better. (2444 views)
Tasted by econnertx on 12/17/2021 & rated 90 points: Plum or licorice overtones. Good example of the Chianti Classico. A bit bitter for me on the tongue but enjoyable with pasta (2554 views)
Tasted by MaMinator on 11/26/2021 & rated 92 points: Bang for th buck like always with Antinori.
Red berries, vanilla, tobacco. Elevated acidity as a chianti comes but would be wrong to say "high" acidity. Cheerio 🍷 (2234 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 11/25/2021 & rated 93 points: PnD let air for 1hr.

Consistent with previous notes. Getting more while it is on sale. (1992 views)

Producer Location - Tenuta Tignanello (Google Maps)
The Antinori family has produced wine since 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Florentine Winemakers Guild. Throughout its long history (across 26 generations) the family has always managed winemaking in person. Today, the company is managed by Marquis Piero Antinori. The company has dedicated great efforts to improving the quality of its wines, through careful planning of investments and research programs embracing all production aspects. The success of these programs has enabled the company to produce a superb range of quality wines from its various estates in Tuscany and Umbria. The Tignanello Estate is home to the famous Tignanello and Solaia vineyards. Located between the Greve and Pesa Valleys, in the heart of the Chianti Classic area, 30 kilometers south of Florence, Tignanello boasts 350 hectares of land with 147 hectares of vines. The vineyards are divided into small, individual areas over an area of 47 hectares at Tignanello, facing South-West, and the neighboring 10 hectares at Solaia, both with Cabernet and Sangiovese grapes that benefit from specific exposure and micro-climate.

2016 Antinori Chianti Classico Villa Antinori Riserva

By srh (8/20/20):

From:https://www.smwe.com/downloads/ [U.S. Importer/Distributor]

“90% Sangiovese & 10% C.S.; 13.5% ABV; The wine is fermented and aged at the new Antinori nel Chianti Classico Cellars in Bargino, in the Chianti Classico area. After the grapes were destemmed and given a light pressing, the skins went into temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for a week. Fermentation began rapidly, and the period of skin contact lasted approximately 15 days with frequent pump-overs to extract soft, ripe tannins. The wine was aged in French & Hungarian oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation.”

============

By rx7car (8/15/20):

Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva is ruby red in color. The nose shows intensely fruity notes of ripe cherries, red currants, and wild berry fruit along with well integrated notes of toasted oak and tobacco, and a touch of balsamic sensations. The palate is ample and enveloping, savory, soft in its tannins and velvety in texture. The finish and aftertaste are long and persistent.

Made with 90% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon

After a generally dry autumn and winter with little rainfall, the spring of 2016 in Chianti Classico followed with fine weather conditions, favoring a bud break which was approximately ten days earlier than normal seasonal averages. Precipitation and cooler than usual temperatures marled the month of May and the first half of June, days which, nonetheless, did not influence critical phases of flowering and bud set. A warm and dry summer enabled the achievement of a high-level balance of grapes and vegetation and guaranteed a perfect ripening of the crop. The harvest period was a regular one with occasional moments of rain and long periods of sun and breezes, assisting an ideal period of ripening of all of the varieties which were planted. The picking was carried out during the second half of the month of September and terminated during the month of October.

The grapes, after destemming and after being given a delicate pressing, went into stainless steel fermenting tanks where it went through a long fermentation process at a controlled temperature maintained at a level no higher than 86th Fahrenheit (30th Centigrade). The maceration on the grape skins lasted about fifteen days during which time soft and controlled extraction techniques were utilized to attain aroma, structure, and sweet tannins. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, carried out in stainless steel tanks in the case of the Sangiovese and barriques of second and third passage with the other grape varieties, the various lots of wine were blended and continued to age in oak, principally in casks and, in lesser measure in oak barrels, up until the spring of 2019, the Villa Antinori was bottled in July of 2019.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
