| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by grapenomad on 5/5/2024 & rated 84 points: As you may know, the 2020 vintage in Alsace was not spectacular. Good yes, but the drought was a real bitch. This is quite evident in this wine and I really wonder what were these people at Wine Advocate smoking when they gave it 100 points. Moderate lemon in the glass. Nose is open and approachable right now - notes of lemon, cantaloupe, lime zest, iris, some apple chutney. Medium-bodied with a moderate acidity and disappointingly short finish. No depth at all. I can tell you that this wasn't because of bottle condition, because I opened 12 bottles in one night and tasted every single one of them. What I am thinking though is that this could be a "dumb" stage, which I've encountered in Alsatian wines before, i.e. the wine goes silent for a few years and then explodes. Hopefully this is the case and not just another overhyped Rizza. (554 views) | | Tasted by Kim Gerner on 3/25/2024 & rated 93 points: Excellent, but much too young at the moment. Notes of kerosene. Rating based on performance right now. (659 views) | | Tasted by bsumoba on 8/14/2023 & rated 95 points: First time with this wine. Notes of apricot and a clear, distinct mineral note. There is some weight on the palate and and was better as the wine got a tad warmer in glass. Perfect Is this a 99-100 pt wine? Not for me anyways. I prefer the St. Hune I had a few months back. | Zind-Humbrecht Producer website Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.
