Aroma: ripe dark fruit, especially black-currant, black pepper and other spices.
Full-bodied - with good acidity and moderate tannins. Ripe dark fruit, black pepper and spice on the palate.

Flavors were similar to the nose with a nice acidic backbone and soft tannins. Nicely balanced with a medium finish. QPR!! This should hold up for a few more years before it starts to head downhill.  Tasted by z_willus_d on 2/23/2009 & rated 90 points: 90+ min. wide-base decant. Simply red, dark blood-red. I was so happy when I first smelled this. It's not like all the many many other great, but similar, syrah/shiraz wines I've been sniffing lately. Rather than submitting to the domination of some candied fruits, the bouquet on this wine is dominated by heavy heavy meat, game, and funk. Another way of putting that is blood, venison, and wet fungus. Don't let me forget to also mention the crushed dark-red rose-petals that show with the dark plum fruit and sandalwood / oak components. This is the kind of nose you feel like you can eat. I find my mouth chomping down on it, it's so thick. There's a lot of musk perfume showing here as well, especially as it warms in hand. Acid is filling the flesh of this medium-heavy bodied wine. Anything but fruit driven, this tastes of thick rose-water, black liquorish, road shrubs (like biting down on lavender), rosemary resin, and tar, those last two especially so in the finish. It's hard to attribute any fruit flavors to this, other than sour plum perhaps. Not ultra-focused, but well structured with definite tannins for aging some 5+ years. It's interesting, as I'm thinking now about a score of 90-pts., that I'm not apt to go higher, that especially given I'm almost certain to enjoy this better than the past three syrah-based wines I've scored 91 in recollection. There's serious balance here, and more enticing for me, there's also serious complexity. Oh, and the nose gets an A+ in my schoolbook. I think this will only attain greater distinctions in the years to come. (2530 views)

The nose is initially packed with typical syrah black plums and blackberries with suggestions of black pepper. Then comes in the French terroir of slight gaminess and damp earth. The palate is definitely syrah and offers very little terroir-driven characteristics, but does contain nice density and extraction of black fruits and spices. The oak isn't hiding either. Finishes with nice spiciness and low acidity with moderat tannins. Great bottle. (2050 views)

Red Rhone Blend

On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
