Tasted by MC2 Wines on 2/27/2016: Q1 Tasting - Cabernet Franc wines (Our Apt): Wine #12: Drank as part of a blind tasting of Cabernet Franc. For some reason I ended up pretty distracted during the tasting of this wine and I don't think I paid it the proper attention. The cough syrup and tannin combination is all I noted. I did go back to revisit when we realized that we had a '98 and '05 from the same producer/vineyard and I remember thinking it was amazing how much difference there was between the two wines. This one had quite a bit more fruit in it, was still very young tasting. None of the caramelized coffee tones of age. (3 pennies) (2050 views)
Tasted by gregg g on 4/3/2011: Among a bunch of wines, this gem stood out. Groovy wine. Very Chinon. Starting to lose the hard edges with lovely structured CF fruit. In a nice place, but will be amazing in 5 yrs..except it has a neo cork, so I'm drinking my last one by 2014. (2771 views)
Tasted by schway on 2/12/2010 & rated 87 points: Clay, pepper, herbs and some cloves on the nose. Seems somewhat closed aromatically in comparison to what I remember fro last times. Zingy blackberry and bitter herbs on the palate. Super dry. Quite tannic. Shortish finish. A bit nondescript. Lacking in some classic Chinon character. Good structure, but fruit is fading, so I'm skeptical about it's ability to age well. (2720 views)
 Tasted by mocamro on 12/5/2009 & rated 89 points: 89 - Excellent (2719 views)
Tasted by Zinny on 10/29/2009: Very slight, floral nose. Strong fruit on the palate with blackberries and cherries. Some notes of baking spice, earth as well. The body is ok, the finish a little short with kind of a bitterness. I'm definitely not as excited as I appeared to be in last years note but I still found the wine very enjoyable. This would be a good wine to have with roast chicken or grilled porkchops. (2888 views)
Tasted by rdk on 8/30/2009 & rated 89 points: A good effort. Dark and Concentrated (by Chinon standards) with gripping tannins, but not much on the nose. By my tastes a little brutish and uninteresting. I think I prefer the lighter, more aromatic efforts. (2264 views)
Tasted by gordoyflaca on 8/21/2009 & rated 92 points: Blackberry, touch of blueberry and black raspberry, with fresh ground black pepper, and black beans. (1360 views)
Tasted by marc d on 4/2/2009: Well, the first glass was open and wonderful, with pipe tobacco and plummy dark Cab franc fruit. It tightened up considerably with air and wasn't giving much other than some furry tannins at the finish. Recorked and saved the rest for manana. No noticeable brett or off flavors.
day 2:
1st glass seems shot, but then the wine rallies, or my mouth adjusts,or something. Seems very earthy, roasted plum skins, and the good cinnamon kind of brett, that I didn't notice last night.
Finishes very dry and some bitterness to the tannin. Very much a 2005 feature. This wine could definitely age well with a real cork. Enjoyable, but not an easy Chinon at this stage. (1376 views)
Tasted by schway on 2/21/2009 & rated 89 points: Like the style. Lots of blackberry, herbs and spice. Secondary notes of cassis and minerals. A bit thin on the mid palate. (1468 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 1/27/2009: Tasty combo of fruit and funk. Did a roast chicken proud. Drinks well, might age, but with plastic cork just bought a couple for near term. (1376 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 1/1/2009 & rated 89 points: Was tempted to open this after seeing Marc's note, but this bottle was not as generous. It did open up aromatically over a few hours but remained tight and astringent on the palate. At the end of the night it was just starting to unwind, with a lovely young Chinon nose of peppery fresh purple fruit, violets and green tobacco, and a gorgeous mouthful of chalky minerality and fine-grained tannins. Next day this had softened up nicely and went down easy, although it had lost a little something as well. I'll wait another 6 months before opening another bottle. Fake cork. (1445 views)
Tasted by marc d on 12/27/2008: Last night this approached the Platonic ideal of Chinon. Pretty nose with ripe fruit and dried herbs. Gets a little wet cement minerals with air. Bright and lively, with a good bit of tannin framing everything. Could even live and develop for a few years, but I'd be cautious as it is sealed with a plastic cork. Delicious with beef Stroganoff from the leftover rib roast. We polished the bottle off very quickly, it was so easy to drink. (1454 views)
Tasted by Zinny on 11/21/2008 & rated 89 points: Dark ruby color with bright ruby rim. Nose of flowers, pencil lead, cherries and vanilla. Very fuity and ripe on the palate but still with the fine grained tannins and bright acidity that I associate with good Loire Cab Franc. Very good and great qpr. (1683 views)
Tasted by JamesSanders on 1/19/2008: Dense and dark. A little closed at first but started to open up after about an hour. A lot there, but the tannins are a little primary now. Needs time or lots of air. (1743 views)
Tasted by cab on 12/24/2007: This is back to what I remember for the 2003 (the 2004 was a disappointment, although there was a question of sulpher taint). Flowery, hints of licorice, pretty thin (which is OK with me) classic Chinon cab franc. This was a hit with everyone. Especially when I see this was only $16, definitely one to buy again. Rockss and Fruit (1/14/2008)
(Breton Chinon "Beaumont") This had lovely aromas of ripe red and black fruits, nervy acidity and very ripe tannins and a just a very ripe profile in general. Not stripped of any of its Chinon character at all due to its ripeness. There was a nice herbal streak that ran through the wine. I would drink this ahead of the 2004 if you are sitting on both. Of course this will positively evolve for many years but no crime in enjoying it now. A lovely Chinon and for under $20 an astonishing QPR.
