(197 views) | | Tasted by rochelle.richelieu@gmail.com on 12/1/2019: Still really nice in Dec 2019 (1109 views) | | Tasted by IndyTom on 12/16/2015 & rated 89 points: From the latest tasting notes on CT, I was afraid I had missed the window to drink this wine. I decanted for about 30 minutes. It threw a significant amount of sediment.
I was pleasantly surprised--although it is toward the end of its life, it still provided a good amount of pleasure. The fruit was still hanging on and it had enough structure and character that it was a pleasure to drink. Deep dark fruits and a bit of dustiness were the main notes for me. Needs food--we drank it with some salami, pepperoni and cheeses.
If you are holding one of the remaining 368 bottles in the Community Holdings, you'd be wise to drink it soon. Given proper storage, I don't think it will last more than another year or two. (2475 views) | | Tasted by SonnyChiba on 5/22/2014 & rated 90 points: A lot of black raspberry, blueberry, and dark bitter chocolate on this one. A touch of some spice and mint on the finish. Liked this one. (3656 views) | | Tasted by kevinws on 12/18/2012 & rated 91 points: Violet in color. Nose of Black currant (cassis), Blackberry, Mineral, and Oak. Good even body with notes of Blueberry, Raspberry, Fig, Cherry, Dust, Forest floor, Mineral, Oak, and Chocolate. Nice long finish. (4505 views) | | Tasted by mactheknife on 4/29/2012 & rated 88 points: Realized that I had two bottles of this in the cellar; opened and decanted for an hour. I would say that this was slightly on the back side of its career, but still very good. Given that this is not supposed to be long lived wine, I was pleasantly surprised by the wine; well made and a good wine for the price. (4232 views) | | Tasted by Didman on 12/5/2011 & rated 90 points: Dark purple. Rich fruity flavor. Mature. (3911 views) | | Tasted by welchcellars on 9/26/2011 & rated 91 points: Very fruit forward. Not my favorite wine of the night vs Penfolds 389, Andrew will, and 05 cdp, but everyone else loved it. (2950 views) | | Tasted by konadog on 1/1/2011: kind of vegetal at first taste, lots of bell pepper and black olive going on here. let it sit for 2+hrs and got a lot more blackberry and cassis notes; tannins are smooth and integrated. (2312 views) | | Tasted by craigi on 10/21/2009 & rated 92 points: Drinking 2002 Pahlmeyer Jayson :: really nice, complex fruit and big tannins. 92pts & getting better. http://cellartracker.com/w?45341 (2683 views) | | Tasted by wineshaman on 10/16/2009 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured, this bottle is softer and more complex than the bottle I had last year. Concentrated with a core of richness that follows through to the moderate long finish. Sweet dark fruits, vanilla and soft tannins make this a delight to drink. Plenty of life left, but in its drinking window. (2135 views) | | Tasted by pgm on 1/2/2009 & rated 91 points: Better than my previous experience with this wine: This had good, firm structure that I perceived as lacking before, and had lots of extracted cherry and currant fruit, with nice complexity in the form of tobacco, dried herb, and a little leather. Very nice. I wish I knew the proportions in this blend: it struck me as very St. Emilion, as if it might have a very significant proportion of cab franc. Drink in the next couple years. 91+ (2336 views) | | Tasted by wineshaman on 11/9/2008 & rated 87 points: Decanted for 2 hrs, with moderate sedement. The level of concentration and rich plum fruit is impressive along with some earth and a good dose of oak, make this attractive, however the astringent finish detracted from the overall enjoyment. I have one more bottle, that I will hold for a year or two. (2295 views) | | Tasted by GolferChris on 2/25/2008 & rated 93 points: This wine has matured wonderfullly. Still very dark in color, but much more open than the last bottle. Lush, opullent and complex. This wine has tons of ripe fruit surrounded by round tannins that delivers an awesome mouthfeel. Long, lingering finish that delivers hints of Belgian Chocolate. (3022 views) | | Tasted by pgm on 6/24/2007 & rated 90 points: Nice, lush wine with round and full flavors of black cherry and a bit of currant, a little vanilla or butterscotch. With all the pleasant flavors, it seemed to lack structure or a little more acidity to achieve balance, but I'd probably drink it again at the deal I found it for (~$32), maybe not at the release price. (2987 views) | | Tasted by GolferChris on 12/2/2006 & rated 93 points: 3rd Annual Holiday Party (Casa GolferChris (NW Suburbs of Chicago)): Initially very tight and closed, would have benefitted from decanting. After 30 minutes in the glass, this wine burst open to reveal a lush, elegant wine that has a lot of depth and complexity. Aromas/flavors of currant, black cherry, blackberry and a hint of chocolate. Nicely structured, fine grained tannins and a long, lingering finish makes you want more. (4410 views) | | Tasted by mmeng on 10/13/2006 & rated 90 points: Solid. Dark and inky. Big fruit, not overly tannic. Long finish. Should improvein the next 2 years (3391 views) | | Tasted by davidandrose on 6/18/2006 & rated 92 points: Restaurant pop and pour. Inexperienced waitress filled the first glass with sediment, which settled quickly in the bottle when allowed to stand upright for 20+ mins. Rich and full-bodied, nice black fruits and a smooth finish lasting 25+ seconds. I've passed on Pahlmeyer's for the last several years, but really enjoyed this wine and will reconsider in the future. | Pahlmeyer Producer website
Jayson Pahlmeyer, recently joined by his daughter Cleo Pahlmeyer, have been producing highly sought-after, seductive, hedonistic wines since 1986. Pahlmeyer's flagship wine is the Proprietary Red, a Napa Valley Bordeaux blend. Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir round out this stunning portfolio. These wines are produced from exceptional mountain vineyards in the Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast, including the Pahlmeyer family’s Waters Ranch (Atlas Peak AVA) and Wayfarer Farm (Fort Ross/Seaview AVA). These vineyards, coupled with winemakers Kale Anderson and Bibiana Gonzalez Rave's passion and talent, turn out wines with power and finesse.Red Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
