Tasted by hawkeye54 on 12/26/2016 & rated 88 points: Drank at Christmas. Ready to go. Very enjoyable. (1042 views)
Tasted by GalvezGuy on 3/23/2016 & rated 86 points: From 375. Nice nose of leather, sour cherry, and earth. On the palate, earthy cherry flavors accented by a bit of tobacco. Short but balanced finish. Nice little wine at a great price. (1163 views)
Tasted by Coupe 60 on 5/12/2013: Another good bottle...digging this more and more with each bottle...nice QPR. Even Mrs. Coupe thought it good (2274 views)
Tasted by Coupe 60 on 5/7/2013 & rated 87 points: One of the better bottles of this that I have had. PnP'd a 375ml, and just sipped. Sour cherry, good acidity...very solid effort. My last bottle may have been bad (2107 views)
Tasted by Coupe 60 on 1/25/2013: PnP as a second bottle during dinner at Pairings...Mrs. Coupe does not like this wine, and to be honest, for this bottle I agreed with her. By far the worst of the three splits I have opened up, I can only describe the taste of this bottle as paint lacquer...and not in a good way ...Actually undrinkable...Call it a 60-61 whatever it takes (2716 views)
Tasted by Coupe 60 on 1/4/2013: PnP at Anna and Mike's. Similar notes as before. simple but does what it sets out ot do... (1675 views)
Tasted by Coupe 60 on 12/26/2012 & rated 86 points: Tastes like Chianti, which for a $3/bottle half bottle is all I could ask for. Sour cherry, little earth. Simple but good enough for a mid week dish of pasta. Well worth the money (1465 views)
Tasted by Jdog on 3/9/2011 & rated 86 points: 375ml purchased at JJ Buckley for $5/bottle. Consumed over 3 hours. This wine definitely benefited from some aeration. Throw out the 81 score in this list and the reviews of this wine are startlingly consistent (especially for C/T). On the nose, typical Chianti aromas of dark cherry and earth with some green herbal/mint notes. Fairly one dimensional taste profile of sour black cherries and dusty red fruits, which are somewhat thin. The tannic finish is "rustic" and the acidity is somewhat biting, but despite its shortcomings, this wine is more than the sum of its parts. This is old school Chianti Classico. Not a bad QPR at $10/bottle and if the tannins mellow and integrate over the next couple of years then this becomes a relatively good value proposition. 86+ (1698 views)
Tasted by agentorange on 2/18/2010 & rated 86 points: Nose: Big cherry juice and dried cranberry. Ass-kicking red fruit. Taste: Tart red fruit and dust. Very very dry, but with clean acidity. (1647 views)
Tasted by hutch on 2/5/2010 & rated 87 points: Some spice and red fruits. Solidly made. A little tannic. Ok. 87+ (1457 views)
Tasted by Mike Kopanski on 12/24/2009 & rated 81 points: I admit that I don't know how to taste, or appreciate a young Chianti Classico, but I would not pay money for this wine. It is a little rustic and a relatively short on flavor. It has what I call an old world nose, with black tea and cloves. Typical to slightly darker than usual color. There is some red cherry fruit. The mouthfeel is dominated by so much acid that it dulls my taste buds. The roof of my mouth is covered with tannins. There is some oak influence. The finish is quite short and leaves me with a taste like I just bit into a lemon. I just don't get it here. (1389 views)
Tasted by darrenhe on 12/1/2008 & rated 84 points: Not bad but not all that great either. Honest Chianti but I had definately had better, (1424 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 4/24/2008 & rated 86 points: Chianti dinner with Wine for Asia. Typical Chianti Classico. Rather rustic, with smelly socks, dirt and smoke in the nose, some herbs and then cherry. Filled the midpalate with concentrated fruit flavours, but rather hollow and certainly lacking on the finish. High acid bite and obvious tannins. Not bad with the proper food I would bet, but not one I would be in a hurry to repurchase. (1371 views)

Borgo Scopeto (Tenuta Caparzo)

Producer Website

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
