Tasted by KeithAkers on 3/23/2024 flawed bottle: It isn’t maderized, but it’s not sound either. Major bummer (218 views)
Tasted by Chapel on 12/31/2023 & rated 95 points: This is what a wine made by a maestro wine maker is all about. This is wine for adults! If you appreciate mature well aged wine then taste this. Initial alcohol rush which evaporates in 20’. Full bodie with layers of taste and distinction. Balanced. Smooth. Sometimes yet a firm introduction of certainty. Great with foods but also stand alone (173 views)
Tasted by rsbeck on 12/15/2023 flawed bottle: Popped, poured, consumed over next 90 minutes. This bottle was obviously not correct. Bummer. (194 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 9/7/2023: My last bottle, and this wine has been a lot of fun to track over the last 15 or so years. Fully mature at this point, with a deep, brooding nose that speaks more of black fruit than red. Lighter on it's feet on the palate, where some tart red fruit peeks through, with decent acidity. Very good. (378 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 2/24/2023: I'm getting towards the end of a case I bought on release and this wine feels fully mature at this point. Not that it is showing any signs of decline, but I also don't see any further upside to holding this, so if you have it in your cellar, you might want to pull out a bottle to see what you think.

Earthy red & black fruit on the nose, medium-bodied with good persistence on the palate. Very nice. (571 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 1/12/2023 & rated 95 points: Beautiful. A lighter style of BdM. Seamless. Fruit is somewhat subdued with savory notes to the fore. Enjoyed with Porcini rubbed Prime Tomahawk ribeye and arugula salad. (552 views)
Tasted by bitdrerik on 10/28/2022 & rated 89 points: Októbersmakk hjá Eđalklúbbnum (Hlíđarás 10): Frekar ljóst. Ryđ í lit. Oxunartónar og sveskja í ilmi. Líka leysiefni, UHU lím. Líka oxunartónar í bragđi. Sveskja og brúnkaka eru ţarna líka. Líklega er nú ţetta vín komiđ yfir toppinn. (670 views)
Tasted by NickA on 9/30/2021 & rated 92 points: Tuscan WIMPS 2021 (La Trompette): Lovely and sensual, well-balanced, with lots of yummy red fruit, but didn't have the impact of a great wine (I can remember the food it accompanied much more clearly!). Elegant, perfectly mature and very enjoyable. (1366 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 8/13/2020: 2nd bottle in the last month - very likable. The nose features earthy red & black fruit. Expansive on the palate - maybe just a little shy on acidity for my palate, but other than that nit, at 15+ years of age, not a lot to complain about ;^) (1680 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 7/16/2020: This leans to the elegant, lighter-bodied, red-fruited side of Brunello - a wine of finesse as opposed to "shock & awe". In my mind, a very traditional take on Sangiovese. And despite this finesse, it also shows the wherewithal to continue aging gracefully at this point. My guess would be 3-5 more years, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone felt 10 years, although my remaining bottles will in all likelihood not last that long. (1428 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 6/13/2020: Serious Brunello at peak here today. While palates differ, for "honest" Brunello I have always felt that 15 years after the vintage is a real sweet spot.

A brooding nose with red and black fruit and some balsamico as well. Still a tannic bite on the finish, so it's possible that this wine could improve some more, but it's lively today and drinking very well. (1504 views)
Tasted by portman63 on 4/28/2020 & rated 92 points: Truly the soft tannins Burgundian style. Has the red cherry fruit and with some leather, but not overly so. Very supple and enjoyable with a tender steak. (1368 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 12/17/2018: Translucent ruby in the glass, with red fruit and cool menthol on the nose.

Sweet & tart red fruit on the palate, good acidity and persistence. Still fairly primary, but not shut down, so this can be enjoyed today if you like your Brunello fresh and on the younger side. Light- to medium-bodied, and a wine that I feel will develop additional complexity with more time in the bottle. (1618 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 11/12/2018 & rated 94 points: Burgundian in style. To me this had a roundness to it that made it quite attractive. (1173 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 9/28/2018: Tart/Sour cherry fruit on the primary nose.

Still structured/coiled on the palate - good acidity & persistence. Young, with a lot in reserve. '99 and 2001 are my two favorite Brunello vintages for current drinking, but every time I try a 2004, I am more and more convinced that I didn't buy enough of this vintage. (1327 views)
Tasted by micsauer on 2/4/2017 & rated 93 points: BruBaBo 2 Event @ Eccolo Frankfurt (Eccolo Frankfurt): Great wine! Very complex and strong nose of red cherries, spices, tobacco & tar. Big mouthfeel, well integrated tannins & acidity. Stays in the mouth for a long time! Years to go! (2465 views)
Tasted by rsbeck on 3/14/2016: Enjoyed immensely, but since I am suffering a bit of a cold, no review. (2881 views)
Tasted by zoom34 on 2/22/2015 & rated 89 points: I was expecting more. A nice wine but not particularly memorable. (3310 views)
Tasted by Tedcarlo on 2/7/2015 & rated 85 points: This wine is a huge disappointment, especially after all the critical acclaim.
This is my second bottle and I simply can not taste any fruit whatsoever, the wine has a very unappealing medicinal quality. Slow ox did not help.
I have had the Salicutti 2010 Rosso and it was outstanding. Not sure what is going on here. (3075 views)
Tasted by Treblid on 12/19/2014 & rated 91 points: tobacco and deep earth tones. Dark fruit is mild but there. (2390 views)
Tasted by Treblid on 12/19/2014 & rated 91 points: tobacco and deep earthy tones with dark fruit that was mild but still there. (3188 views)
Tasted by rsbeck on 11/23/2014 & rated 94 points: Pop and pour, singing from the pop even though it was still at cellar temperature, 55 degrees. Definitely improved with air and a little warmth. Beautiful bottle of Brunello. Excellent now and seems packed for a bright future. (1933 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 8/9/2014: This is outstanding Sangiovese. There is a deep garnet color with a delectable nose of dried cherry, dusty earth, hints of violets and a very savory, meaty, and saline undertone. The palate is balanced, elegant, and very flavorful. There is very good depth and the wine finishes well. Delicious! (1591 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 12/22/2013: Lighter in color than the La Rasina; sweet & sour cherry fruit and a little menthol on the nose. Still primary, but this nose is growing on me.

Really nice; light-bodied & elegant, sweet/ripe red fruits, nice acidity, tannic finish - I like this a lot, albeit this is still quite young and will get better. (2234 views)
Tasted by macker100 on 11/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Hoping for more from this top producer in a great vintage. Nice nose of cherries, earth, roses. Palate has light red candied fruit with a strawberries, minerals, and hint of meat element. Sour cherry finish with decent length. (2208 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
