Tasted by Collector1855 on 5/26/2023 flawed bottle: During a Paulee dinner, so only brief impressions. Very fresh and not a hint of oxidation but unfortunately corked. Arg! (858 views)
Tasted by redders on 11/28/2022 & rated 95 points: Same bottle as Wine Amateur. Amazingly youthful , pure zinging fruit and fresh . Just a brilliant wine . Oh if they were still like this. My last bottle. (671 views)
Tasted by wineamateur on 11/18/2022: Extraordinary. Still fresh despite its age, with beautiful poise and balance (650 views)
Tasted by vinko84 on 6/8/2021 & rated 94 points: I have to agree with previous tasting notes. This is well made white wine that keeps on giving. I have 1 more bottle left. I wish I had more. (1651 views)
Tasted by Gargantua on 5/15/2021: Just stunning and ageless, exactly as billed. This felt like an Easter miracle. Color was pale yellow as if it were 3, 5 yrs old. Metallic and mineral nose on opening that needed to unfurl. Just a miraculous experience, feel lucky to have found this magnum for sale 7 years ago and trusted it'd make the longer haul. Wish I could find more ageless, well-made and stored '88 but ha! good luck. (1807 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 11/22/2020 & rated 93 points: In magnum. Exotic fruit, yellow fruit and minerals. Youthful, rich and balanced. Still a baby in this format. (2083 views)
Tasted by vindictive on 2/23/2020: bottle, fill and cork excellent - youthful, lovely, light golden color with life sustaining acidity - a regal and lovely wine that could last many more years (1897 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 6/10/2019: Still supremely youthful. There’s some flint, citrus blossom and mildly exotic fruits on the nose. It is rich, dense and linear in the mouth. It has fabulous detail and such great posture. Citrus flavours really linger. (2359 views)
Tasted by vindictive on 11/11/2018: bottle, fill and cork all good - a sublime burg, still relatively young, light golden opens up nicely with apple, lemon peel, honey. Excellent acidity - regal and lovely with a simple salad. Plenty of life ahead (1765 views)
Tasted by PanosKakaviatos on 1/8/2018 & rated 95 points: Yet another holiday dinner with amazing wines (Black Salt, Washington D.C.): Fantastic, too, following a pair of excellent Champagnes. No premox here. At first, it seems just a tad lean perhaps, but a light butterscotch nose aspect builds over time yielding a rich yet vibrant wine. Very pretty, too, beckoning drinking. As it sits in glass, a very subtle note herbal aspect, touches of cooked pear with light spice, all rather subtle and appealing. And then there is a nougat like finish. Bravo! (2929 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 6/12/2017: A fine nose of white peach, citrus and nougat. It is complex, subtle direct and long. Still plenty left in the tank. (2662 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 3/30/2017 & rated 93 points: Nice depth with a notable richness to the palate. Certainly mature at this point though. (2379 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 12/3/2016: It pours out fresh and glistening but there is a top note on the nose that is a little nutty. The palate is a cold steel blade. It has some hay and citrus blossom and is powerful and very long. It is not as good as a couple of previous bottles but is still an excellent drink. (2622 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 7/14/2016 & rated 95 points: Bastille Day with GMs and Mivvy: Heady floral notes, with orange and mandarin peel as well as lemon and toast. Very youthful and perfumed. Beautiful acidity, this has superb balance and composure. Great depth of fruit and the length is phenomenal. Seriously great and I'd say my second favourite bottle of Bonneau du Matray ever, only a little behind a magical 1986. (3225 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 11/2/2015 & rated 94 points: Nok en ekstremt ungdommelig nese med mye knust stein, sitrus, litt fedme i duften også.
Litt slankere enn jeg er vant til fra Bonneau.
Virkelig lekkert.
Deilig fylde i anslaget, men samtidig slank frukt.
Frisk, ren, mineralsk, intens, deilig og viser ingen tegn til aldring.
Lang og stram finish.
En sylskarp Bonneau! 93-94p (3280 views)
Tasted by LPEG on 10/31/2015 & rated 93 points: Slank, ung og fresh CC fra BdM. Slank og elegant, virkelig flott vin. (2420 views)
Tasted by Jowh on 10/31/2015 & rated 91 points: Fine wine and dining with the usual suspects (Svenns leilighet): Bra nese med mye kompleksitet og hovedsaklig sekundære aromaer. Blir dessverre kort i munn. (2225 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 1/30/2015: Pours out an iridescent green colour. So fresh, so vibrant, so good. Shows but a hint of toasty development then she's all fresh white peach, citrus and mineral. It has a rigid spine and with air you get a suggestion of preserved lemon and some retrained exoticism. It is dense, linear and compact and length is superb. Quite brilliant. (3735 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 1/16/2015 & rated 94 points: Marvelously austere, subtle and pristine wine, seemingly ageless – really impressive given its age, it is totally fresh. The palate has nice sweet notes of flowers and white fruits backed with gentle lime and minerality on the finish. The ‘80s were a really decade or Bonneau du Martray CC! Thanks to David! (The Modern) (2933 views)
Tasted by j45 on 12/20/2014: Still seems young. (2660 views)
Tasted by clayfu on 10/12/2014: drinking great right now with some air. (3006 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 6/2/2014: Cole's bday dinner, this was great, all the young Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlie's i've had have been rounded and rich but this -- happily -- reminded me of the 1983 bottle i had a year ago, it was high acid, very lively / tense, fruit of lemons and apricots, with some salty minerality, wow this was a big wine and felt like it could go another ten years believe it or not… i have to wonder if a 2006 that tastes too round today will end up like this btl in 15 years?? (2625 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 1/6/2014 & rated 95 points: Bonneau du Martray, Ghislaine Barthod, Clos des Lambrays and other Auction Steals (Alex's place): Superb. I have always enjoyed Bonneau du Martray's Corton-Charlies but never quite placed them in the highest echelon of white Burgundy; not at least until I had this bottle and it's flight-mate, a lovely 1990. Of the two, the 1988 was subtler, more nuanced and, to my tastes at least, the better wine. This had a fantastic nose on it, with tons of savoury mineral and earth aromas, chalk, a dash of spice, then honey and toasted vanilla, all floating around subtly sweet notes of white white peach, sweet cream and perfumy white flowers. Beautiful. This was a stonier, higher-toned bouquet than the ripe, fruitier aromas of the 1990, but one could still tell the family resemblance between the wines. Same thing on the palate too I thought. This was absolutely superb. Refined, pure, having a certain verticality to it, with a wonderful spine of minerality and fine acidity stretching up in-between layers of pure, transparent white fruit, all laced with little dashes of spice and toasted vanilla, before some sweet lemons showed up on the midpalate. Lovely stuff. This was very elegant; effortlessly so in fact, with a creamily smooth, wonderfully integrated feel to it; yet it was also at once structured and focused, with a real tension that kept the wine taut and lithe all the way into a long, graceful finish, long, full of savoury earth and warm spice and an almost salty mineral twang that pulled away into the back palate, just before the wine faded away with a final kiss of white flowers. A wine of nuanced complexity and subtle strength. Beautiful stuff just starting to hit its peak. Watch this space though - this is one wine that has the balance and depth to go on for years and years yet. (4434 views)
Tasted by JerM on 1/4/2014 & rated 95 points: (Burgs w PaulS et al @AlexH's) [tasted alongside the 1990] Sweet, soft white flowers, gentle acidity, restrained vanilla oak, with just a hint of zest. Gentle floral bloom (honeysuckle and tobacco flowers), chalk (!), and a savory seam of lime zest. Complete and complex, maintaining an elegant, effortless balance and clarity in a vibrant tension! Nuanced and beautiful, from a classic vintage. (2453 views)
Tasted by vindictive on 3/19/2013: Had this at a restaurant - bottle, fill and cork all excellent. Very bright, youthful wine. Fresh yet plenty of breed and development. Lovely old style wine without all the oak and circumstance of the newer Corton Charlemagne. Apple, fresh grass, tropical fruits and a strong spine, I suspect well-stored bottles will continue on. Not as giving or multi-layered as a recent bottle of the '86, but this has better structure and should last a long time. (2870 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
