Tasted by glou.sf on 5/6/2023 & rated 96 points: Ganevat Dinner (San Francisco): Really lovely, complex nose of lemon, lime, and green apples. Lots of acidity on the palate with more lemon and apple notes and a distinct mineral-y quality towards the back. Long finish. Excellent wine that beautifully combines bright, acid driven fruit with power and complexity. (756 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 5/6/2023: brown sugar, toast, lots of pit fruit. lovely balance, minty finish. gorgeous wine. (469 views)
Tasted by FransS on 4/19/2020: Although drinkable, even a bit enjoyable, no rating; this vintage has become old and most of the times too old. This bottle, with a golden colour, showed some glimpses of this wine once 'en pleine forme', and also too much apples and cracked in the finish. (1432 views)
Tasted by jjct on 7/16/2019: Drinking great. Wonderful balance of ripeness and ripping acidity. (1457 views)
Tasted by ericindc on 5/2/2019 & rated 95 points: Boom. Drinking really well. Wonderfully aged. Apple, brown sugar and sharp tang on the nose. Strong acidity, gushing minerality/salinity (whatever you want to call it), apple fruit, some creaminess, and light caramel. A touch of herbaciousness on the finish along with a some light bitter taste. Just super complex and nice. (1535 views)
Tasted by dead puddle on 5/21/2016 & rated 93 points: Blind tasting , just after Grandes Teppes 2008 from the same producer. Nose very expressive, oaky. Mouth superb , wide, mature with just oxydised notes. A superb association between cream and acidity. Superlong after taste. Massive and energical. Exactly what you expext from an "ouillé". chardonnay from Jura. No bottle variation for this one. Organic.
At his peak. (2457 views)

Tasted by Jasper Hofman on 2/2/2015 & rated 92 points: See previous notes. Last bottle. (2668 views)
Tasted by FransS on 11/21/2014 & rated 91 points: This wine started very convincing, but some hours later the ripe acidity disappeared a bit, however two days later the scrap in the bottle showed again very balanced. Don't compare this wine with Burgundies. Every time I taste a different backbone, due to a more pronounced acidity. The style is more hefty, maybe less sophisticated, but the wine pleases the palette and is very pure. Drink the 2008 now! (2542 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 9/17/2014 & rated 93 points: The first vintage of this was 1999. The fruit is sourced from a biodynamically farmed vineyard planted in 1902, producing a minuscule amount of concentrated and very late-ripening grapes. Aged for years on the lees in old and neutral oak barrels. No SO2 employed in the winemaking.

Deep golden yellow color with a slightly hazy appearance. Somewhat restrained and slightly closed nose with nuanced aromas of complex nuttiness, some bruised apple, a little bit of creamy leesiness, a hint of dried citrus zest and a touch of something vaguely funky. The wine is full-bodied yet very crisp and high in acidity - even racy - on the palate with ripe and somewhat sweet, yet remarkably fresh and bright flavors of ripe apples, some waxy and funky character, pronounced herbal notes, a little bit of steely and slightly stony minerality and a hint of salinity. The wine seems to be quite alive, its flavors changing shape and character all the time, yet still retaining that racy character throughout. The finish is long, wild and crisp with intense flavors of herbal bitterness, steely minerality, tart green apples, some crunchy white currants, a little bit of some beeswaxy character, a hint of leathery funk and a touch of saline tang.

Now this was bloody brilliant stuff. As this was ouillé (i.e. the barrels were topped), this wasn't your typical, tangy and aldehydic Jura white but more in the vein of Burgundian whites with more weight, concentration and purity of fruit. However, the wine was still unlike your typical Burgundian Chardonnay, with its more racy and mineral-driven style reminding me a lot more of Chablis. Overall this was something like a hybrid of modernist Jura, Burgundy Chardonnay and Chablis, made in a very non-interventionist fashion. A unique and extremely fascinating experience. (1449 views)
Tasted by galenico on 1/29/2014 & rated 92 points: JURA NIGHT (ENOTECA ROSSORUBINO TORINO): Maybe this bottle was a bit over-ripe and honeyed... not as perfect as the one I had before Christmas.
This one lacked of acidity and mineral long finish. I did not cathc his Chablis-side, but anyway, always a masterpiece!!

Meno performante dell' ultimo assaggio natalizio.... un pò più maturo, mieloso e quasi avanti con gli anni.... Mi è mancato il suo lato "Chablissienne" e la sua complessità, però sempre un bianco meraviglioso! (3288 views)
Tasted by FransS on 1/26/2014 & rated 89 points: Tasted blind (not I, but my friends) with the Les Grands Teppes.
The Les Grands Teppes was the winner, although a bit chunky, the wine showed fatness, body and had a pure chardonnay nose and taste with just that little difference (the acidity/minerality) between this wine and e.g. a Corton-Charlemagne. The Les Chalasses was more reticent and therefore difficult to assess. With more aeration the wine showed more intensity and backbone; so maybe within one or two years this wine will grow. Both bottles decanted (from bottle to bottle) two hours before the tasting. (2089 views)
Tasted by galenico on 12/25/2013 & rated 96 points: One of Ganevat's best crus

Hey man, this is funky!!!
Popped and poured, classic smell of lightly oxidated stuff, I love this sulfur coming out....Reminds me of all great Valentini Trebbiano.
It tells you that everything is alive inside!!

Now add to this salty freshness a buttery layer of a Batard-Montrachet.

An entry-level oxidatif-style, made by a master of a winemaker that
Combines a richness creamy texture, bright acidity, saltyness
sea shell, with light pear, iodine, lemon, fuji apple.

What about the long finish.... here we are again!!
Cirtus, saltyness and acidity of a Chablis, with a layer of creamy-Batard-hazelnut

It is just impossible to stop pouring another glass, smiling like an idiot!!!
I would drink Ganevat all life long!!!

Burgundy + Chablis = Jura ( at a ridiculous price)

Tasted by Bordeauxman on 11/24/2013 & rated 93 points: no notes taken, but very good. Plenty of life left. (1408 views)
Tasted by Jasper Hofman on 9/21/2013 & rated 92 points: Awesome. Bit riper - obviously - than previous bottle, this is so pure and energizing stuff. (1893 views)
Tasted by FransS on 9/8/2013 & rated 90 points: First day very shy; second day far more developed, but not as profound as the previous bottles; still wonderful balance and acidity and a non-burgundian style of chardonnay. The difference? I think the style of acidity in this wine. (1876 views)
Tasted by Pierre-Yves on 8/24/2013 & rated 94 points: Fantastic wine. Combines a richness creamy texture, bright acidity, lovely fruit.
Here the special kick and of this wine: sweet green fresh tomatoes. Crazy!
The next day a light oxydative note appears, giving it a more classical Jura feeling. (1674 views)
Tasted by mattyboy_ on 8/23/2013 & rated 94 points: may be offensive to those who like their chardonnay mild-mannered. The wine has a personality of it's own. Shared this with a group and we all commented on how much of a shape-shifter it was on nose and palate. Very very complex and very very funky in a good way. (1537 views)
Tasted by french16 on 12/29/2012: This is very good. There's a very light oxidative note on the nose and palate (that disappear with time on the nose). While this shows some Burgundian touches, there's something about it clearly Jura. It is fresh, mineral, chalky/sea shell, with light pear, iodine, lemon, fuji apple. Oak is well integrated. Teases you with exotic fruits without actually crossing that line. Great acidity. A hint of hazelnut on the lemony finish.
It is just impossible to stop pouring another glass. What a great wine. (2142 views)
Tasted by FransS on 12/7/2012 & rated 93 points: The first impression, indeed, is a Bâtard, but after the first punch, you find (as my friend Loek did) the differences in the minerality and in the acidity. Jean-François doesn't make bourgogne look-alikes.
The second day the aftertaste was even longer. I like this right in your face wine with unmistaklabe a lot of character and quality. (1668 views)
Tasted by Jasper Hofman on 10/7/2012 & rated 92 points: Great length, depth and complexity. Unusual. Citrus, bit of mushrooms, bread, some nuts but this one is not suited for describing individual features. Beautiful acidity and freshness though robust enough to tackle food. Great now, but some more years in it. (2061 views)
Tasted by Biglama on 3/7/2012 & rated 92 points: gele kleur, mineraal, stenig, licht ziltig, mooie karaktervolle wijn, prima drinkbaar, intens, veel diepgang (2284 views)
Tasted by Jasper Hofman on 2/27/2012 & rated 92 points: spannende geur, sinaasappelmarmelade, sprankelend glas, onvergelijkbaar met om het even welke andere chardonnay (2209 views)
Tasted by Anthony Lombardi on 9/14/2011: Dark yellow gold. Mostly clear. Reductive upon opening, but that blows off to offer layered citrus aromatics. Oxidative in style, and medium bodied Chardonnay. Layered mid palate showing tart green apple, tangerine and some minerality on the back of the palate. Acidic, but stops short of Chablis levels. Focused and precise with a crystalline texture. Clean, long finish.

The last bottle I had was a pop and pour and we got it into a decanter ASAP, but it was so funky and rough that we never got a sense of what this could be. This time I gave it an all day decant (opened around 1PM), and served with dinner. Chicken enchiladas with heirloom tomatoes and avocados. The air and food showed a brilliant wine. (2256 views)

Jura

A petite and relatively obscure wine region in eastern France, between Burgundy and the Swiss border. Its geographical isolation has helped it to remain a rare bastion of traditional winemaking techniques, and today it produces some of the most distinctive wines in the world. Reds from the Jura are often light-bodied, earthy, berried, and reminiscent of the village wines of Burgundy (though here they are made of local grapes like Poulsard and Trousseau). While Chardonnay features widely, the true specialty of the region is the Vin Jaune (“yellow wine”) made from the white Savagnin grape. Cloudy, difficult Vin Jaune is made only in the best vintages, and must be aged for at least six years before being released. As it ages under a layer of yeast, known locally as “voile,” the wine slowly oxidizes, leading to complex aromas and flavors that range from walnut skin to sultana to spices and truffles. Famously long lived it is always sold in dumpy 62 cl bottle - the wine lost in production having been taken by les anges.
