Community Tasting Notes (average 92.7 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 110 notes) - hiding notes with no text

 Tasted by Vinogan(s) on 2/12/2024 flawed bottle: Oxidation (844 views)
 Tasted by dafmd on 11/26/2023 & rated 93 points: PnP; ruby with slight room; cola notes on nose, some floral notes with time; medium bodied, smooth mid-palate, some red and dark berry, earthy notes, mushroom, rich savory lasting finish; excellent with burger (1136 views)
 Tasted by cubswinws on 8/13/2023 & rated 94 points: From magnum. Exceptional showing. Still quite youthful and could easily go another 4 or 5 years. (1429 views)
 Tasted by jschnabel on 11/27/2022 & rated 92 points: The wine aroma elicits notes of blueberry, cola and a faint smokiness. The wine has plenty of acidity and medium tannins. I would say the palate gets a short burst of the blueberry, almost reduced to a jam, with strong minerality, some dried rose petals and some chalkiness. A meaty wine that delivers exciting mouthfeel and should be savored. (2081 views)
 Tasted by Julien D on 11/6/2022 & rated 92 points: Deep inky purple in the glass. Heavy nose with stewed black fruit, prune, baked plum, cassis and then notes of blueberry pie, graphite, brown sugar and pomegranate. Medium. Icy mouth with a high acidity, medium alcohol and still some grippy tannins. A little unbalanced with the acidity. Some notes of licorice and strawberry jam melt in a medium length finish. Good but not outstanding. (1987 views)
 Tasted by acyso on 9/4/2022 & rated 88 points: (Mostly) Spanish dinner (Chicago, IL): Not quite my style. This was very dark, but the fruit felt a little muddled (probably something to do with grenache getting too ripe). Sweet, and lacking a backbone to keep everything in place, and the there seems to be some slight decaying notes to the fruit (as opposed to development). (2915 views)
 Tasted by Yagil on 7/9/2022 & rated 93 points: see my previous TN
requires 2-3 hours of aeration (2071 views)
 Tasted by WilD on 5/27/2022 & rated 95 points: Decanted for 2 hrs. Whaaw, great nose of thick cherries. Nice palate with cherries, herbs. Nice acidity. Great performance (1679 views)
 Tasted by FEDEVIDAL on 5/15/2022 & rated 94 points: Color picota muy oscuro, de capa alta y tonos morados.

 Tasted by Vini Ciclismo on 2/27/2022 & rated 93 points: Deep ripe red with black core.
Beautiful plums, blueberry, iron richness, ink, crushed herbs.
Good weight, furry tannins, rich and nicely intense.
Still very youthful, drinking well but years ahead . (1519 views)
 Tasted by lv2tri on 2/20/2022 & rated 91 points: Dried berries, leather - lovely but for those who have more, may want to move on these sooner rather than later (1328 views)
 Tasted by Renevin on 2/10/2022 & rated 94 points: Nez très expressif, graphite, fruit, floral, complexe. En bouche, c est ample, corsé, la finale sur les tanins. Belle longueur. À revoir dans 4-5 ans (1330 views)
 Tasted by KeithAkers on 11/27/2021 & rated 93 points: Nose: This from a pop and pour and it was singing from the outset with tones of black cherries, licorice, black raspberries, blackberries, crushed rocks, violets, black currants, liqueur notes, dark spices, a bit of cedar, bitter chocolate, and just a bit of dusty notes to round it all out. This was just classic Priorat and especially, classic Clos Mogador in all of the best ways possible.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and resolving, medium+ tannins. This isn’t dainty or close to it on the palate, but there is a deftness that is utterly irresistible. The feel is like a light heavyweight that can stick and move with black cherries, black raspberries, blackberries, black currants, dark spices, cedar, liqueur notes, violets, and crushed rocks.

Overall: Though this could’ve benefitted from a decant, it really did shoot right out of the gates. It absolutely has a larger frame and to expect differently is just wrong in my opinion. This is classic Priorat and I love it. This is pretty much perfect right now and it will certainly hold for at least another 5+ years. (1536 views)
 Tasted by El_Dougo on 10/7/2021 & rated 92 points: Not much more to add than what SonnyChiba calls out below. Medium body, red fruit, mild black spice. Decanted 20 min before enjoying first glass. Paired with homemade flank steak tacos with all the toppings. Delicious wine that kept improving and we kept drinking. (1720 views)
 Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 8/16/2021: From magnum and drinking superb right now. (2003 views)
 Tasted by MindMuse on 7/24/2021: Really outstanding over two days. (1590 views)
 Tasted by SonnyChiba on 7/15/2021 & rated 91 points: I can see why many people like this, especially if you prefer rich modern style wines. It is certainly well made and has a unique flavor profile to it. Strawberry jam on the nose, dark plum, soy sauce, and the finish tasted a little oaky with high alcohol/high acidity. I rated this highly years ago, but my palate has changed and it didn't hit me the same way this time. 90-91 pts. (1885 views)
 Tasted by DH90 on 6/24/2021 & rated 93 points: Deep red color with limited hints of brown at the edge. Still looks and tastes very young. Sharp distinct aroma of black cherries with fresh leather, some brackish seawater elements, and rich long flavor. Initially tannic with good acidity but after an hour or more of aeration, it began to soften. Very enjoyable today but might be best in 3-8 year. (1754 views)
 Tasted by Yagil on 6/15/2021 & rated 93 points: Coravin tasting
deep purple-black
high intensity aromas of dark cherries, black plums, blackberries, blueberries, dough, oak-vanilla, dark chocolate, spices, hint of mint & eucalyptus;
developing;
dry, high acidity, med+ tannins, high abv, full body, high intensity flavors consistent with the nose, long finish, complex, outstanding;
can drink now (requires 1-2 hours of aeration) - suitable for further aging. (1719 views)
 Tasted by dsimmons on 1/11/2021 & rated 92 points: This wine took a couple of hours to settle down, Initially too much acidity but after a few hours the balance improved significantly displaying great concentrated fruit flavors. drank with braised pork. I will wait a few years before next bottle. (2159 views)
 Tasted by Derrik on 12/10/2020 & rated 93 points: Pretty deep dark berrie and mineral herbal bukett.
On the palate with medium+ structure and on the finish with a lot of salty liquorice and a good length.
A fine acidity that is just enough, but on the borderline. A little more freshness would be welcome. In spite of that delicious and quite powerful. Ready to drink, but with a lot more years ahead. (1771 views)
 Tasted by Jack on 12/6/2020: Pretty tight. Opened something else and put this away for next day..
Next two days were great. Very nice if given a lot of air time. (1587 views)
 Tasted by Cote d'Or on 11/19/2020: Tasted over 2 hrs
-opaque dark red purple
-low-key dark fruit with a whiff of charcuterie
-med acidity peeks in at the finish, med/med+ weight dusty focused black fruit minerality, molasses and some heat accompany med tannins and some oak appears on the moderately long finish
-has quite a bit of stuffing left but not sure there is enough balance to age gracefully (1773 views)
 Tasted by winemaker on 11/8/2020: This bottle was slightly off. A bit of mustiness that didn't completely go away. (1646 views)
 Tasted by cubswinws on 11/7/2020 & rated 93 points: Really a nice showing. Great depth with a bit of rusticness and a port-like finish. Really a beauty! (1379 views)

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
