Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.8 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 16 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/7/2020 & rated 92 points: La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. Ripe, spiced and mint with good depth and charming mature orchard fruit. Very good richness. (2155 views)
Tasted by Évergète on 12/9/2018 & rated 80 points: Pas complètement oxydé mais très fatigué. Une déception... (1320 views)
Tasted by sjwshiraz on 8/10/2017: Advanced (1955 views)
Tasted by MAOC on 2/11/2016: At the Square. PnP. Mid gold colour. Very Coche in style but also seemingly notably Puligny in character - peaches, flint, distinctive popcorn, caramel notes with a faint hint of nuts. At a very nice point to drink now even though it has time in hand. Excellent. ****-****1/2 (2857 views)
Tasted by FYC on 2/7/2016: Classic matchstick nose, touch fatter than the Bouchard Le Montrachet, rich fruit, buttered popcorn, just the faintest hint of bitterness which dissipated. Wonderful. (2759 views)
Tasted by clayfu on 2/6/2016: Bodacious Bootylicious Burgundies for a Birthday Boy (Patina DTLA): yaaaassss finally a 99 that isn't shut down. Needed about 30 minutes to warm up but when it did it just became this dense mactruck of sweet lemon and floral notes. That nose was full of the typical CD toasty nuts and flint. (3418 views)
Tasted by d'Auvenay on 1/7/2016 & rated 94 points: Wine opened in 3+ hrs. Need more breathing and will be very much better. Many years to go. (1902 views)
Tasted by Rupert on 7/16/2014: A taste of Coche-Dury (Angler, City of London): Wild, grippy, edgy, not quite as good as the 01, but really delicious (3112 views)
Tasted by tooch on 4/3/2013 & rated 96 points: Dinner in LA (Some restaurant in KoreaTown): Very fleshy and round at first. I realized soon that this profound wine just needed air and a chance to warm up a bit. With some patience this was brilliant. Haunting aromas of flint, marzipan, sweet lemon and crushed rocks. Minerality and acidity were flawlessly balanced. Hard to find a fault with this wine. (2745 views)
Tasted by bnord81 on 3/17/2012 & rated 96 points: Outstanding, rocks, flowers, toasted minerality. Just beautiful. (2289 views)
Tasted by Russell Faulkner on 9/14/2011: At Taillevent, by far my favourite white wine of the year, maybe the decade. Initially quite shy with flint and smoke with other sulphury stuff. But it soon opened to show a wonderfully taut but generous expression of pure burgundy. How does he do it? (2430 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 8/2/2011 & rated 93 points: "Simple" Midweek Dinner (Asia Grand) (Asia Grand, Odeon Towers): An entirely excellent wine. You do not often get a village of this quality, but then again you don't often get one of this price either! That aside though, this was a superb wine. It had a typically full-on Coche-Dury nose, full of toasty, roasty notes, with nuts, sesame seeds and a whiff of gunpowder. Looking back now, it was so obviously in line with the house style that it was a wonder none of us got the maker right. It could well be because everyone on the table correctly picked it out as a Puligny, which naturally meant that we went for guesses of Sauzet and Leflaive given the richness and oak on the nose rather than Coche. Underneath those upfront notes though, there was a nice amount of ripe yellow fruit aromas, some wafting floral notes and a little minerally undertone that was pure Pulingy. Complex, attractive, but not quite altogether somehow, with that whole toasty thing sticking out a bit. Thankfully, the palate was far better. It had rich yellow fruit flavours, maybe pineapples and sweet lemons, shaded with toast, roasted nuts and a good dose of buttery cream tones. All this was cut through with a really nice bit of citrusy acidity that carried the wine towards a long, energetic finish. In spite of the layered richness on the fruit, I really liked the sense of poise, focus and balance on this - so much so that none of us placed it as a 1999. A really good wine, and it amazingly seems to be barely hitting its stride. My guess that it will be even better given another 3-4 years in the bottle. A real treat. (3183 views)
Tasted by gorm on 8/30/2007 & rated 94 points: Uncorked DK tasting: 1993 Burgundies and some other wines that were actually great! (Peter Solberg): A relatively dark color, yellow with an amber glow. On the nose there is sulphur, flint, dried flowers, caramel and tons of gunpowder. In the mouth it is most impressive, both round and intense. Aftertaste is very long with some edgy minerality. Good acid, great balance! That's a big 94 leaning towards 95. (3375 views)
Tasted by trankin on 5/15/2007: SOBER Tasting (JG's place): Whoa! Enormous hazelnut funk and burnt toast on the nose. On the palate, burnt orange peels and hazelnuts. Much better than the nose. Lots of stuff going on here. Cleans up a bit. The flavor profile is thick and viscous. Lengthy finish. Others loved this, but it's not my style. (2935 views)
Tasted by AJ72 on 10/24/2004 & rated 94 points: Tasted at Ma Cuisine: What a wine! Village at that. This wine was an absolutely stunning example of how White Burgundy at it's best is one of the most enjoyable wines to drink. Only three of us to savour a very well priced bottle of pure golden nectar. There is a wonderful influence that this producer imparts on his wines without diluting terroir. Very opulent with all the refinement and minerality you see in the great wines albeit on a smaller scale. Punches well above it's weight division. (1992 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
