| Tasted by ssouth on 1/15/2021 & rated 90 points: 2009 Château de Fosse-Sèche Eolithe. Saumur. Cabernet Franc 98% Cabernet Sauvignon 2% Rich tart cherry and violets. Bright and fresh. Nice mineral notes. Still very young
I can’t tell a direct effect of this being aged in Beer barrels (546 views) |
| Tasted by tbone on 6/12/2020: Drinking fantastic now on P&P. Plenty of ripe fruit and earthy nuance. Bravo. (662 views) |
| Tasted by winchester-xi on 6/11/2020: A bit of dulling to the color. The nose offers as much damp earth and herbacousness as fruit. On the palate, loads of blackberry and red plum, plenty of leafy cab franc notes, and some mild anise. The remaining tannins are chalky but soft. The mid-palate is a bit thin, but the finish is long and complex, with powerful, citrus-like acidity playing off the lingering flavors. Another modest wine that does great with mid-term aging. | Tasted by BeadyJay on 10/4/2018 & rated 90 points: drinking very nicely. Tannins still present, enhancing the impact on the palate. Unlikely to improve from here but no rush. I preferred this to the Terres Chaudes 2010 which I opened for comparison. (930 views) |
| Tasted by beatles on 8/13/2018 & rated 90 points: Such a cool cat with a dry, almost dusty presence and a very blue and cool fruit; still young, but open for business and very well balanced with a fine, but not overpowering acidity. (1137 views) |
| Tasted by tward on 5/30/2016 & rated 90 points: Thank you Lou! A great value in the mid-teens, drank during two nights spaced across a week and if anything it was better on the second night (has a bit of high notes to blow off initially), so this is drinking great now but could probably lay down for a couple years more. Everything you want from Saumur! (2135 views) |
| Tasted by Hecht_Pede on 3/1/2016 & rated 90 points: Spicy and with good length, feels like its in a good drinking window now. 90+pts and a good buy. (2506 views) |
| Tasted by DougLee on 10/12/2014 & rated 91 points: Dark garnet, almost purple. Nose of cassis, red currant, stems, machine oil. Brightly acidic yet serious on the palate with seamless layers of currant, red plum, and a hint of green pepper which was not in the least objectionable. Middle weight wine with lots of life and zesty cabernet favor. Tannins filed off. Moderately long finish with stems and plum intermixed. Nicely done and delightful with spicy Italian sausage over pasta. (3074 views) |
| Tasted by ledocq on 6/23/2014: What's it called when the aftertaste is carbonated? Because this was carbonated. (Update: I didn't know the trick of banging it and letting it sit a day. Now I do.) (3563 views) |
| Tasted by NiklasW on 5/11/2014 flawed bottle: Popped and poured. Quite a heavy nose, dark berries, bit of paprika, but something is not quite right here. The palate has a bit of spritzy feel to it, quite acidic. Hmm, wonder if this is secondary fermentation in the bottle? Smells and tastes a bit weird, gonna score it as flawed. (2949 views) |
| Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 3/31/2014: Nate says it reminds of camping in the spring before its warm enough to wear shorts. Gutsy with lots of spice and green notes. Pretty darn burley Cabernet Franc. Needs to be buried in the backyard for a couple of years. (1983 views) |
| Tasted by Rezy13 on 2/7/2014 & rated 89 points: Darker core with lighter garnet rim; green pepper, cinnamon, clove, tree bark, blueberry; richer and more tannic on the palate, softened tannins, plump, good bit of green qualities, black pepper, sour finish gives freshness; not as impressive as last bottle. | Tasted by christyler on 2/3/2014 & rated 87 points: Decent - a little high acid and just a little hot. Took a few hours to calm down. (1414 views) |
| Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/5/2013 & rated 90 points: Saturday Afternoon at Weygandt (Washington, DC): Damn, this wine is really perfumed and rich and full of spice notes. Elegant, but packed with dried flowers, spices and olives. Deserving of a nice, slow-cooked meat dish with lots of spices. Yum. (1744 views) |
| Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 8/9/2013 & rated 91 points: A beautiful young Saumur. The nose is perfumed with violet and fresh berries, also some pepper and allspice. The palate shows a lot of elegance, balancing the pure berry fruit with lots of acid and mineral. The tobacco, green olive and pepper flavors are spot on and really complex. I'd love to try this again in three or four years, but I'm also surprised at how good it seems to be doing at this young age. (1417 views) |
| Tasted by Rezy13 on 5/21/2013 & rated 91 points: Dark dense ruby though not opaque; nose of blueberries, clove, allspice, and bark; good acid, balanced with the fruit non-fruit and spice; different and delicious; I was off Cab Franc for a while but I'd change my tune if they were more like this.
