The cork was perfect after a decade in the bottle. Consumed over two days. This wine started with spicy fruit; as it opened up, this wine showed better balance. On day two, this wine had softened to reveal increased depth, texture, and integrated complexity. Dark red color with no oxidation, and clarity is good. Aromas of sweet cherry, and vanilla. Flavors of cherry, raspberry, and baking spice. This Grenache has a medium finish. This age worthy wine may have more years of life left. A great fruit source and a good winemaking effort by Michael Dashe. Pair with Charcuterie and Olive Tapenade or grilled Lamb Chops. Less delicious, but balanced for a CA grenache still. (I am really not a grenache lover, to be honest.) Good, but seems along the lines of a basic CdR (or Beaujolais) in style. Bit pricey for what it is IMO. Made with ambient yeasts, elevage in neutral 500 L hogsheads. Hoping the pepper shows up tomorrow (3053 views) | | Tasted by drinkfunkyanddance on 2/22/2012: This wine is fine--stellar for a CA grenache, but still just fine. Buoyant fruit and vaguely peppery/spice aromas make it seem like it it would go down easy, but it really needed to be paired with food. With dinner this was great--refreshing and even palate cleansing. Nice wine, but not life-changing. Stick with the Zins from the Enfants line. By night 2 it had mellowed, showing chalky strawberry meringue, some cracked black pepper, and a smooth acidic backbone. Decent stuff, but I liked the previous vintage a little better. (2804 views) | | Tasted by drinkfunkyanddance on 11/13/2011: Hmm. Not as good as the Les Enfents Terribles Zinfandels, but not bad. Bright blue carbonic fruits, a good dose of acid tang (maybe a teensy bit of VA). Maybe needs some time in the bottle. Scrumptious, but I'll stick to the Zins for the price. (1602 views) |

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyDry Creek Valley Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley | Dry Creek Valley Association | Appellation America | San Francisco Chronicle Article |
