Tasted by CornDoggyDogg on 6/15/2021 & rated 94 points: A little over the top, but I wanted a wine that wouldn't be overpowered by the steak au poivre. Mission accomplished. This wine probably isn't for everyone with it's in-your-face style but we enjoyed it. Not sure I'd buy again at the price point. (2637 views)
Tasted by fingers on 3/24/2021 & rated 92 points: Just as wicked and controversial as its reputation. It really could be written up like a port and accompany your favorite smoke, and with that mindset it comes across as nicely balanced and complex. So tonight, it was paired up with a Flannery 45-day NY steak and what a great combination that also turned out to be! Unfortunately, after the steak was gone the brute abv force of the wine made further exploration tedious. With such a nice cut of cow, the two of us can usually kill a bottle of 13-15abv. Not so with this giant. 5+12+17+8= 92 (2738 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 2/22/2021 & rated 94 points: Virtual Men's Wine night (Zoom): From carafes poured two hours earlier. This seemed slightly bretty so possible I would rate another bottle higher as I'm very sensitive to brett. Other than that, bold, intense dark fruit balanced with intense minerality on the palate. Long finish. Raspberry jam on the delicious nose. I'd like to try this again without the brett for sure. My #3 of 5 and the group's #5. (2805 views)
Tasted by wren460 on 9/12/2020 & rated 94 points: Black viscous motor oil...and I love it. Definitely not for everyone, this is a very good example of overextracted shoraz from Australia. Blueberries and nice oak. This is the Caymus SS of Australia but on steroids. Old world fans should never drink this style of wine because they will not understand how someone can like this style of wine. QPR modest, would love to see it in the $159 price (2906 views)
Tasted by mgstull on 6/14/2020 & rated 88 points: Just not my thing. Drank over three days. Overripe black and blue fruit with hot alchohol on the finish. Powerful but for me almost a charicature of red wine. (3185 views)
Tasted by RobbieC on 6/6/2020: Wonderful wine! (1641 views)
Tasted by jcampano on 5/28/2020 & rated 97 points: Aromas of violets, red cherries and blueberries. This was a red and black cherry fruit explosion on the palate integrated with mild oak and blackberry. A long, smooth finish. (1645 views)
Tasted by bugles on 3/17/2020 & rated 90 points: The usual aussie overextracted bomb with not much finesse (1871 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 1/12/2019 & rated 96 points: Less bombastic than you might think, but still a massive wine with blackberry, cherry, blueberry, and licorice in a molten core. Acidity and sweet spice provide balance. Drinking very well right now but probably good for 3+ more years (2686 views)
Tasted by dase13 on 11/10/2018 & rated 93 points: Dark in color, almost purple. Not too much sediment. Scents of ripe blue and black fruit. Taste of blueberry and blackberry, which was quite balanced and smooth, with a medium finish. (2688 views)
Tasted by cfoy on 10/7/2018 & rated 96 points: Balanced and fruit forward, very nice wine, built to last. (2570 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 7/2/2018 & rated 95 points: - Brick color with medium forming legs. It's in total harmony and has flavours of strawberry, raspberry, strawberry jam and licorice anise with a medium/full body. Juicy texture with a long finish - The nose on this wine is stunning to say the least. This wine is loaded with red ripe fruit. A beautiful finish to say the least. (2996 views)
Tasted by chuckos77 on 4/1/2018 & rated 89 points: Losing some of its luster. This is becoming a little too fruit forward for me. Like these better when they are younger. (3095 views)
Tasted by FlyPig on 12/25/2017 & rated 98 points: Opened for 90 minutes, consumed over an hour. This is an unabashed hedonistic monster. Blueberry and blackberry initial wave, followed by loads of vanillin. Dark purple color, confected fruit, vanilla, blueberry pie on entry, coats the mouth, massively long finish. This wine doesn’t try to hide what it is, and I could see people not appreciating the style, but it is unquestionably an extraordinarily made wine. I can see it staying in this window for 7-8 years, but can’t imagine it getting better. It seems to me wines of this style are best served at peak maturity of the fruit. Definitely a cocktail wine to me, can’t imagine what food you’d pair this with. Magnificent. (2981 views)
Tasted by JulianSkeels on 9/22/2017 & rated 93 points: Tough to score - I got through a whole bottle but it was work. Really benefited from 1hr in a glass before drinking though, will hold my remaining bottles for at least 5 (probably 10) years. Very big, rich and powerful. Not especially jammy, but definately sweet and not to everyone’s taste. Worked fantastically with a cheese plate. 92-93pts now, with upside. Drink 2020-2025 (3522 views)
Tasted by Escalus on 9/1/2017 & rated 96 points: Always an enormous wine, hard to find a pairing with food, but delightful to drink when in the mood. (3244 views)
Tasted by bugles on 8/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Despite some great reviews on this wine. I wasnt very pleased with the wine itself. I think it was overhyped. Or maybe I drank it in the wrong window. Have another bottle which I shall try in a few years. (2855 views)
Tasted by wino_tim on 7/7/2017 & rated 87 points: Deep purple with very slight bricking. A deep nose shows obvious volatile acidity which only mildly distracts from the dark fruit, cocoa powder and slight salt-cured olive aromas. Full bodied and rich on the palate with medium acidity but tarter fruit notes that lend brightness to the entry. This is straightforward stuff and surely there are scores of wines that deliver what this offers for a fraction of the price. (2995 views)
Tasted by Lazlo Toth on 3/31/2017 & rated 95 points: No formal notes. Absolutely outstanding. (3121 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 3/12/2017 & rated 95 points: - Brick color with slow forming legs. It's in total harmony and has flavours of blackberry, raspberry and black currant with a medium/full body. Juicy texture with a medium finish. (2471 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 11/19/2016 & rated 95 points: - Brick color. It's balanced and has flavours of blackberry, raspberry and strawberry with a medium/full body. Smooth texture with a long finish - Absolutely love this wine which is difficult to come by. A real fruit bomb. (2928 views)
Tasted by K-Web24 on 8/13/2016 & rated 94 points: Wow, where to start! Huge decadent wine! Popped and poured with no decant necessary. Beautiful deep dark purple color. Huge nose of blackberry pie and vanilla cream. Same on the palate with the addition of black plums and honey. I've tried several vintages of Velvet Glove and it has yet to disappoint. (3296 views)
Tasted by chuckos77 on 11/29/2015 & rated 94 points: Big bold Shiraz that for some over powers. I absolutely love Molly cooker wines and this velvet glove is everything I look for. In my opinion, 2010 was not their best vintage but will see if it holds up a few more years with other bottles (4463 views)
Tasted by Wineson on 7/6/2015 & rated 92 points: A crowd pleaser, with lots of chocolate on the palate. (4514 views)
Tasted by MXL on 6/22/2015 & rated 96 points: Decadently rich blackberry jammy mocha-chocolate spicy greatness. Velvety and supple smooth. A Father's Day treat. (4468 views)

2010 Mollydooker Shiraz Velvet Glove

About This Wine
Dark black violet in colour, this wine has an intensely spiced nose with fruit aromas of fresh raspberry, plum and blueberry with an edge of tar, mocha and blackberry jam extending the complexity. The palate shows amazing purity of fruit with delicate flavours, fine oak tannins and creamy oak. Simply unique it has the ability to coat your entire mouth with the softest of textures yet unleashes such an intense and amazing array of fruit, completely rich and voluptuous with undeniable elegance. A wine that truly deserves it’s name, coating your tongue like a Velvet Glove.
