Tasted by Zweder on 7/4/2015: Regular dinner group (By Me @ van der Dussen): What a pity! This wine has been so beautiful, but now it is getting too old. Still concentrated and rich, but the reductive and nutty flavors have taken over. Still yellow fruits, but the wine lost its freshness. If coming from a very cold cellar this might still be ok, but if not; drink it very soon (if this bottle was exemplary). No score. (3441 views)
Tasted by sgamiz on 4/17/2013: Good wine but near its good drinking life - drink up. (4198 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 5/9/2012 & rated 91 points: Monthly Tasting Group HWS #069; Burgundy: Puligny, Chassagne, Meursault (By RvD): Dark yellow. Creamy bouquet with tropical fruits and butter. On the palate very ripe fruits. Mango. Broad and very smooth. The oak has integrated nicely. Drinking it beside Burgundy wines this wine is less elegant and has more sweetness, but overall this certainly is beautiful wine. (4757 views)
Tasted by red stain on 6/3/2011 & rated 92 points: Viscous, rich. Dark color no oak.

Tasted by Dillo on 4/24/2011 & rated 93 points: Medium golden yellow color. Nose of tropical fruits, with melon & pineapple standing out, along with some pear, a bit of oak and vanilla spice. Full bodied, but well balanced with acidity - creamy with pineapple, green apple, melon & vanilla spice. Finish is particularly spicy, with hints of nutmeg. Excellent wine! (5014 views)

Tasted by Sleepy Dave on 11/5/2010: Alcohol :: 14.1%
Oaky, creamy lemon custard with lots of ripe yellow fruits and some peppery spice. Ripe, sweet but not overly so that review it's identify of new world with mineral, lots of spices and creamy mouth feel leads to long creamy finish that's juicy and fine. Aromas of smoke appeared and the wine has polished up with time. The dense, weighty mid palate is very powerful with tons of yellow fruits and spicy nuttiness flavor all firm up by the ripe acidity that went through seamlessly to the good spicy finish. A well-made, delicious new world Chard, a little upside potential after the oak mellow down with time, maybe in another 3yrs time. Buy - No. (2036 views)
Tasted by rickspicks on 5/1/2010 & rated 93 points: Big, powerful nose of pineapple and honey. Very rich and intense, sweet flavors of pineapple, honey, melon and with a hint of mineral. Medium bodied with excellent balance, a smooth, rich texture and a long finish. A bit richer than I expect from a Kistler, but still totally delicious. (2144 views)
Tasted by x60pilot on 2/11/2010 & rated 89 points: Not much of a nose. Still had some pineapple and pear which was balanced with a hint of crisp acidity. On the finish there was a touch of buttery oak and as time progressed also more heat. Not bad at all. (2223 views)
Tasted by James B on 1/18/2010 & rated 93 points: Outstanding yet again. Powerful nose, very little oak, sublime on the palate. Kistler chards really are Napa's best. No contest. (2227 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 12/22/2009 & rated 92 points: Elegant, full bodied and complex. (2250 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 11/28/2009 & rated 90 points: Hedonistic Diner (Restaurant Le Défi, Sprang-Capelle): No formal note. 17.5/20 (2225 views)
Tasted by t_moderne on 11/13/2009 & rated 91 points: Good golden yellow color; nose of lychees and pineapples. Some green apple too. In the mouth, a nicely balanced pineapple and mineral elements. Holds up for a long finish. (2296 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 7/4/2009 & rated 92 points: Private dinner with friends. (@ MWe): Very smoky, oaky and tasty NW Chardonnay. As my previous note. I can appreciate this style very much, because the fruit can handle it. This wine can last for several years. (2611 views)
Tasted by James B on 5/19/2009 & rated 91 points: Very nice. Huge nose; exquisite balance. It has the profile of a white Burgundy, with perhaps a bit less minerality. (2488 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 4/28/2008 & rated 85 points: Another bottle that Allred opened at his wedding for the head table. He poured me a glass when I was up talking to him. I believe that this is the restaurant bottling put out by Kistler. As usual a lot of oak in this Kistler. Some pineapple but mostly woody notes. It tasted alcoholic to me although it was only 14.1%. Not my style. 85 points. (2616 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 4/26/2008 & rated 90 points: Pale gold color with aromas of apple and tropical fruit, along with a good bit of oak. Well balanced, with tropical fruit flavors on the palate, along with a spicy oak component. (2580 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 3/14/2008 & rated 92 points: A great evening with close friends (@ PZ): Smoky and complex with a lot of toasted oak. A lot of taste and concentration. Some banana. Good acidity. During the evening the wine evolved and became even more beautiful. (2739 views)
Tasted by ove on 9/10/2007 & rated 91 points: I had higher hopes for this wine. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice Chardonnay but I was expecting something more along the lines of Shafer's Chard which is a favourite of mine. This one, a bit restrained and not enough fruit. Elegant but lacks the power I was looking for. (2958 views)
Tasted by t_moderne on 3/24/2007 & rated 94 points: Ethereal aromas of pineapple and sweet vanilla ice cream. Round and full in the mouth with just enough acidity to not make the wine overly sweet. Full flavors of pineapple and some apple - like a pineapple dum dum lollipop but like I said with enough acidity for proper balance and to avoid any pineapple candy flavors. Did I mention pineapple? (3169 views)
Tasted by David S on 11/23/2006 & rated 95 points: buttery and full bodied - loved it (3202 views)
Tasted by sdatl on 11/11/2006 & rated 92 points: Wonderful balance of crisp acidity, tropicl fruit, and smooth vanilla from the oak; defines elegance. (3178 views)
Tasted by James B on 9/29/2006 & rated 96 points: Quite amazing. Soundly beat a top-notch French white burg from the same night. Incredibly deep and complex. Do not obsess about temperature. It reached its peak as it warmed to about 60+ degrees. The wine threw a shocking amount of semidment and crystalized sugar, particularly considering its youthful age. It also significantly overpowered the standard Kistler Sonoma of the same year. This is an outstanding white. (3558 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 8/14/2006 & rated 86 points: Consumed at Maitre d' restaurant. Bottle purchased from the wine list. Limpid. Bright disc. Light yellow robe with clear rim. Clean but somewhat muted nose, showing predominantly mineral aromas with a hint of pear. Light to medium-bodied on the palate, with good acidity and a distinct Burgundian/mineral flavor profile. The predominant fruit is again pear, but it stands in the background of the wet stones. The wine becomes a bit thin in the middle and the finish is relatively brief. Although quite drinkable, this wine does not deserve its hefty price tag. (2598 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
