Drinkable, but not memorable. (445 views) | | Tasted by Frank & Don on 6/8/2018: Don didn’t like it (685 views) | | Tasted by oldcorke on 4/19/2014 & rated 94 points: I held this wine back. I purchased it out of a 22 way Cali Cab '02 tasting as my "wild card" after Ehlers, & Chateau Souverain. I was looking for restrained balance.. and this was more vegetal green pepper. And Pine Ridge was way over the top, stylistically. The first bottles I opened over the years were... as expected.... green pepper & compost. I had not much enthusiasm when I popped this last bottle for some friends.... but ... Wow. Did it ever sing! Such a beautiful balance of oak & berry & tannin & acid.... just now morphing into what an '84 Heitz Martha's Vyd already is.... liquid bacon. This wine was Super Delish.... and I'd buy a case more to drink just 2 like this was. But... that's the opposite of consistency.... (3862 views) | | Tasted by slippytoad on 10/29/2007 & rated 89 points: Nice and smooth, nothing to blow you away. Maybe rather bland for my palate these days. (3988 views) | | Tasted by raiderwes on 3/14/2007: very good. drink it now. (3854 views) | | Tasted by sunalsorises on 12/3/2006 & rated 89 points: Nice smooth easy to drink. Not too complex. (3853 views) | | Tasted by smjt4ever on 10/21/2006: Very nice... decanted an hour before drinking. Has a consistent black currant flavour with cherry on top, smooth and ready to go now, might last another year. (2704 views) | | Tasted by ColinR on 9/3/2006 & rated 92 points: Deep crimson, purple; black currants, vanilla, bitter chocolate, blackberry jam; concentrated fruit, silky, medium-full body, beautiful balance, good structure, well-integrated tannins, long finish. Decanted 2 hrs. Gorgeous Napa cab. Wines like this remind me why I drink wine. Nice with lamb chops. Better in 5-10 yrs. (2406 views) | | Tasted by epml on 8/26/2006 & rated 87 points: Used in Beef Stew but still had 1 glass. Very smooth. (2189 views) | | Tasted by rael007 on 5/26/2006 & rated 84 points: Not terribly exciting, but a pretty decent wine. It was a bit flabby, but with good notes of fruit, oak, pepper. Decent finish. Seemed a bit on the sweet side. (2283 views) |
| White Oak Vineyards & Winery Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
