Tasted by Venexian on 12/8/2013 & rated 94 points: Calvari 1997: Rosso rubino di media concentrazione con sfumature granata. Finale succoso e molto lungo. (1899 views)
Tasted by McEinar on 3/9/2013 & rated 97 points: Deep and complex nose, very difficult not to just keep sniffing. The wine is accessible with a short decant and clearly inside the drinking window. The wine is super balanced and possesses a remarkable texture, a lot of dry material (textural richness) and a vibrant acidity. Dark, almost black, in color with blackberry, truffles, sweet tannins, herbs and a green element which brighten the drinking up. Although hefty use of new oak, it is not in any way dominant in the taste. The aftertaste is long and compelling. The wine is difficult to compare to other wines – for me there are reminisces of both a great Conseillante and Achaval Ferrer single vineyard bottlings. To my taste not a blockbuster, but far more than that. Simply seamless. The Miani Calvari 1997 remains among the really great wines of this world. Drank at Restaurationen in central Copenhagen, Denmark. (2380 views)
Tasted by Long Louis on 12/9/2012: Tasted with some wine-pros from the media - This wines stood the test and itself. It is resistant against almost any force (except letting it fall down). Very monolithic and still in need of some ageing. Nobody knew how Mr. Pontoni managed to put such big Périgord truffles into one single bottle. Magic. Reminded me in an unlogical way to the 1990 La Chapelle, but was of course more dense and chewy, but this will resolve in trhe next decade. Let it sleep or it will not let you sleep. (1927 views)
